Mizu's eyes narrow, though she leans further into Akemi's palm, now at her cheek. "You were sure?"
"Hmm."
"Sure that I would find you," she clarifies.
Akemi laughs, a quiet hum that vibrates between them. Mizu doesn't need her ego stroked; the whole empire quivers at the mention of her name. Akemi had no doubt that Mizu would find her. Without it having to be said, she knows that she is the eye of Mizu's desire. She wouldn't let her go so easily.

Summary
After her quest for revenge, Mizu returns to Japan. In Nagasaki, she is intercepted and taken to Edo. Akemi forces her to join her husband’s guard. Neither the samurai nor Taigen are pleased about this. Because Taigen assumes that she has been in Japan the whole time and has only returned to claim another victim of her revenge. No one knows that Mizu is in Edo against her will, and Mizu doesn’t know what Akemi really wants from her. After all, Akemi seems desperate enough to want to control someone as uncontrollable as Mizu.

Luckily for him, he seems to matter enough to Mizu that she’s trying to get him out of prison. Maybe it’s the memory of Taigen letting himself be tortured for her sake; maybe she’s just glad not to be alone in a foreign country; and maybe, despite their mutual attraction, the two of them just can’t help but constantly misunderstand each other.
