Summary
Tokyo Drift has proven to be crucial in the Fast & Furious lore, though often for all the wrong reasons. After retconning Han’s death three times across his six film appearances, we are left with a canonical chronology that doesn’t do justice to his character development and raises all sorts of questions.
Why is post-Rio Han hanging out with high schoolers and stealing petty cash from the yakuza? Why does he seem so much less mature in Tokyo Drift than in Fast & Furious 6 — and why did party-animal Han agree to raise a kid? How did he get over Gisele so quickly? Why can he magically hold his own with Deckard Shaw in Fast X?
This work, which takes place during Tokyo Drift, is my humble attempt to fill in some of the missing pieces and shift how we think about Han in that film.
