Comment on Site slowness and other currently known issues

  1. Thank you for all your work! I absolutely love that the Ao3 is volunteer-driven. But I do wonder if there are plans afoot to eventually hire a full-time person -- I have no idea if the donations/fund drive would ever bring in enough money to cover that.

      Hi,

Thank you for the kind words! :-)

We currently don't have any plans to hire a full-time developer for ongoing site maintenance. Money is only one part of the equation; the much more complicated aspect is taking on the tax/insurance/paperwork responsibilities of an employer. Since the whole org is volunteer-run, that's a commitment we simply cannot make.

However, thanks to the generosity of the OTW's donors, we can consider "outsourcing" some of our work (e.g. improving the code for one area of the site) through short-term contracting relationships. We have been looking into some options, and will inform our users and OTW members about our plans as soon as we have something concrete to share. As all paid work must be carefully considered in the context of our non-profit, all-volunteer status, this will probably take a little more time.

Hope this answers your question! Let me know if there's anything else.

      Best,
