Aww, I love Rose, but I also love Martha. I definitely approached this from a Nine-era direction (Nine is "my" Doctor; the way Eccleston portrayed him...but that's a discussion for a different day/venue!). I loved what they did with Captain Jack and his lingering romantic feelings for the Doctor, even if the only side he ever showed to the Doctor was the fun, flirty side. The scenes where Jack and Martha commiserate over the fact that the Doctor doesn't even care that they're both in love with him was a definite influence on this fic, even though there's no "Rose" character standing between Bond and Eve and Q here. I think that their loyalty to Q, whether he ever returns their affections or not, will keep them from leaving until their stories have run their course--and that's the really painful thing: in the fic, Q says that he never lets go when he should and that's why it hurts when they leave, but in Who, no one lets go when they should. The Doctor takes the brunt of it, but everyone lingers for one more adventure (even past the point where it's not fun anymore, like Amy and Rory) and everyone throws the dice one more time because they can't not.
I'm so glad you liked it! Thank you for your thoughtful comment and listening to me blather on, haha. :>
Couldn’t resist replying to appreciate the backstage view of this fic as well as the insight into the Doctor’s relationships. Who could let go, really? Also, Nine is “my Doctor,” too :) Thank you!
