Comment on ripening of the wound

  1. NOW IT IS MY FAV LINE.
thank you, i love that line too! as much as murtagh tries to deny it, he loves eragon for all the ways he’s difficult, not in spite of it :)

(And Murtagh still finds a way to doubt it)
i tried to mimic the overall dynamic of their relationship: eragon’s feelings are open and clear (in the books he empathizes with murtagh even when he’s angry, wants him to be happy, doesn't hold anything against him, invites him back as an equal, and even murtagh knows him not to be a "deceiver"), whereas murtagh spends so long believing eragon doesn’t approve of him, or like him, or need him, because he can’t fully love or accept himself, and he unconsciously places eragon on a pedestal, which keeps creating unnecessary distance between them.

so when eragon fiercely tells him he loves him, it comes from knowing murtagh will doubt it, but needing to say it anyway because it's his truth, and nothing murtagh says or thinks about himself can change that.

murtagh was also raised in a strict court environment where perception and reputation were constantly weaponized against him, so he’s very sensitive to how he might be seen if his taboo feelings were exposed. that’s where all his complex feelings come from, even though he loves eragon deeply. it's hard being him!

    Eragon tries to seduce Murtagh.
he saw ilenna flirting with murtagh so he had no choice but to lock in and claim HIS man 😤

He likes seeing his little brother on knees
YES murtagh is so kinky in the books, wdym you fantasize about eragon being on his knees for you and you want to bind kekvra to you in large ways and small 🤨🏳️‍🌈? ok homotron 5000

I thought their true name would be both changed after love confession and they would be free.
in this timeline eragon is taken to uru’baen before oromis tells him about true names, so they’re both completely in the dark here. that’s part of why eragon is so desperate and acting out however he can. but i like to think that once they both realize, on a conscious level, that they’ve changed (like murtagh’s realization in the throne room), it becomes the catalyst for them to turn against the king together. a happy ending is definitely possible 🥹

    (big brother mode: ON)
i love when the lines between brother and lover blur for them. eragon will never stop being murtagh's brother, but he's also his first true friend and his lover and a hundred other things. they can’t fully compartmentalize what they feel, so instead those identities collapse into each other, similar to how they feel merged with their dragons. codependency! fluidity! romance! kisses on the forehead AND mouth.

(I wonder, is Galbatorix suspicious of their bond?
yes. nothing quite gets past him, he's very perceptive.

And does he send Eragon to kill Varden during his missions?)
yes, or at least he tries to, but eragon is ridiculously adept at finding loopholes in grammar (a byproduct of creating elva), which is why galbatorix is so frustrated with him and resorts to punishing him so much.

thank you so much for your comments, i always look out for them whenever i post! they genuinely make my entire day and give me inspiration to keep writing <3 xxx
