Character studies are always interesting works to read. Especially when they're character studies woven through something else. Oh and I particularly like character studies written through the pov of another character gradually getting the know the character that the character study is of.

Summary
Ilya watches Shane drop the gloves on live television and thinks he looks like an angry kitten. It’s a terrible idea to tell him that.
He does it anyway … along with presenting evidence.
Shane’s going to kill him. Or maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll put on the stupid cat ears, just this once, just for tonight, and let Ilya see him the way nobody else gets to: unguarded, trusting, and finally willing to stop fighting for a few stolen hours.
(They can’t keep doing this. They will anyway.)

Summary
He might regret it in the morning, the vulnerability he was showing. Something about the series of events made it seem okay, like it was safe on the phone line. There was just something about Shane, the way he made Ilya want to overstay his welcome when it came to him. If he had over stepped, well that would have to be a problem for tomorrow’s Ilya.

It’s probably going to be boring as hell. Just Ilya and people telling him what to do and then getting annoyed if he doesn’t immediately get it. He’ll charm them, sure, but still. Boring.
