A Modern day Merlin AU set at the University of St Andrews, featuring teetotal kickboxers, secret wizards, magnificent bodyguards of various genders, irate fairies, imprisoned dragons, crumbling gothic architecture, arrogant princes, adorable engineering students, stolen gold, magical doorways, attempted assassination, drunken students, shaving foam fights, embarrassing mornings after, The Hammer Dance, duty, responsibility, friendship and true love...
This story was inspired by the thought of Prince William of Wales (and indeed the current Max von Hapsburg) studying at the University of St Andrews; it is also, as the title suggests, at least a little inspired by the operetta 'The Student Prince'.

::2019 note: This story was written BEFORE the TV show introduced the character of Gwaine. It's not that I can't spell, or that I'm perversely writing him out of character - I incorporated other characters from Arthurian legend (Kay, Gawain etc) into my story, and lacking prophetic abilities, my versions naturally don't mesh with the versions subsequently introduced into the show.::

Summary
There’s safety in numbers, but far more safety in a dominant scent.
River is single, and won’t let it stop him enjoying his full social schedule - university is for making friends and memories! As an omega, however, he’s well aware that the city’s dangerous areas pose more of a risk to him than they do his friends. Especially his friends with partners who scent mark on them.
With little to lose, he starts researching alpha scent perfumes. Probably bogus, definitely overpriced, and boasting long restock wait times. But worth a try. Right before purchase, he manages to accidentally get a free trial of a real alpha’s scent… all over his throat.

Kugisaki groans. ‘First of all, suck it up dumbass. You’re too old to be shy about asking someone to coffee. Second, who says he’s straight? Who says he’s anything? Worst case, you make a friend. A hot, firefighter friend.’
Fushiguro flips her off.
‘Fushi, my dude, my bro, my idiot. I only say this because I am genuinely, truly, and completely afraid of the fact that you will set something on fire just in the hopes of seeing him once his puppy is ok.’
Fushiguro flips her off a second time. She doesn’t need to know that he briefly, extremely briefly, had considered doing just that.

Someone on Tiktok pointed out that there was definitely some overlap between Ilya/Garrett's Boston hockey careers. The fact that the team names are different in each individual series doesn't matter if you're pure of heart, I heard.
