Summary
Eddie was sitting on the floor of the hallway with his back against Christopher’s bedroom door. His eyes were dry, streaky tracks staining his cheeks where he had cried so much he ran out of tears. Through the closed door, he could hear sobbing, his son crying out for the one person who wasn’t there. He felt useless, wanting nothing more than to give Christopher exactly what he wanted but powerless to do so. He wrapped his arms around his legs and rested his head on his knees, curling up impossibly small.
Buck was missing. It had been twelve months since anyone last saw him.
-----
Or, Buck was never found after the tsunami, but a year later, some hope returns to the 118.

Summary
The day Evan Buckley gets back from deployment, he heads out for a relaxing day at the pier. There, he runs into someone from his past and has to keep both of them and others safe when a devastating tsunami hits.
'He doesn’t waste time, plunging back into the ice cold water and swimming frantically towards where Chris is desperately holding onto a light pole. Buck gets to where he’s about five feet away before he has to stop, the current too strong to keep going.
“Let go Chris!” Buck says, and the kid shakes his head frantically. Buck’s heart goes out to him - they’re both fucking terrified and the worst of it isn’t over. “I’ll catch you!” He yells, reaching his arm out to Chris. “Trust me!”
Chris squeezes his eyes shut and lets go of the pole.'

Summary
Maddie fiddles around on her phone for a moment. “March 29th is the Kings game?” she asks, and Eddie nods. “I can get you rinkside.”
Eddie almost chokes on his drink. “And how much is that going to cost?” he asks, considering the cheapest ticket he’s seen is pushing $350 and even then they weren’t rinkside. Eddie feels faint at the thought of it.
But Maddie giggles and says, “Nothing, they’d be free.”
Eddie goes to argue, tries to tell Maddie he absolutely cannot take tickets worth probably $500 off her hands for nothing but she shakes her head some more. “My brother plays for the Leafs,” she explains, “the tickets are free for me to get, Eddie.”
Or, Chris has really gotten into hockey lately. Good thing Maddie's brother plays for Chris's favourite team.

Summary
“Chris gave you the shovel talk,” Buck whispers.
“He sure did,” Eddie smiles.
“Aren’t you mad?”
That makes Eddie turn around. The sight breaks his heart and he wonders how he missed the signs. God he was so lost in his own joyful bubble that he didn’t pay enough attention. Buck looks nervous, like he’s waiting for Eddie to snap at him.
“Evan, why would I be mad?” Eddie asks, squeezing Buck’s hand in his and letting his thumb trace circles on his skin.
“He’s your son,” Buck says softly. “He – He invited all the 118 kids to ambush you.”Or after Eddie and Buck get officially together, the 118 kids make sure that Eddie knows he can't mess with their Buck.
