The first time that Teddy remembers it happening was when he was five. Harry and Ginny had taken him down to the pond at the Burrow. There were ducks in the water, and in his excitement, he'd metamorphized his mouth and nose into a bill. When he turned to Ginny, expecting her to laugh, she just had that look on her face. That delight mixed with endless sadness that would haunt him from then on.

Harry stared at the other boy, aware of the rush of interest that swept down the Slytherin table.
“Do we?” he asked mildly as he swung one of his legs over the bench he was seated on.
“We do,” Snape hissed, his eyes narrowing.
“Can’t imagine how,” Harry retorted blithely, and swung his other leg over. “Surely it's not the hair, you’ve got about twelve inches on me.”
