Summary
Most men, upon waking up in the middle of the night and finding nothing in their environment to explain why, would roll over and go back to sleep. Alfred Pennyworth, a man who has not lived his life ignoring his instincts, silently folds back his covers and tucks his feet into his slippers. The butterfly knife under his pillow goes into his pajama pocket, and he goes to his bedroom door with every plan of simply taking a quick look down the hall to be sure nothing is amiss.
Something is amiss, however, and his breath draws in sharply. “Master Bruce?” he says a bit too loudly, and the boy jumps. His ward is standing in the shadows across the hall from Alfred’s bedroom door, and his round cheeks are wet with tears. (Alfred is worried about the fate of those cheeks. It has been such a struggle to get the boy to eat since…since.)

He remembers clearly what Malfoy told him, and deep down he knows it is true. He cannot handle this alone, but the thought of telling anyone is creating a lump in his throat and causing his palms to sweat. He is so overwhelmed by all this, if he tried to tell anyone that would surely make him crumble down like a house of cards. So fragile, a blow could make him break down.

It is a weakness indeed, because everyone who tries to help Harry Potter always ends up bad. Which is why Malfoy should stay as far away from Harry as he can.

Summary
Tom Riddle wanted three things. That was what Fate always knew. Tom Riddle wanted power, immortality, and strangely enough, an equal. Benevolent and cruel as she may be, Fate decides to be kind and place the very equal he's sought upon his path. She has given him three paths, one of destruction, one of meaningless success, and another of glory and power.
Harry Potter is dead. Hyperion Peverell is not. That is what Fate commands. Given a sick reward of a second chance, he is dropped into the early 1940s, and enrolled into Hogwarts under a new name. Death haunts him, as Hyperion Peverell constantly stumbles upon Tom Riddle.
One is given the salvation he needs and the other is rewarded for experiencing his ruination. Fate looks upon the two and smiles her cursed smile. Perhaps they could save each other from the destiny's she's woven for them.
