A Present

Chapter 2: premonition

Chapter Text

A thread of golden spider silk floats in empty space. It moves, untethered through the nothingness.

Suddenly you become aware of your own body. You can see the shining thread drift closer and closer.

You reach your hand out into the nothingness and gently grasp the string. You'd find yourself wrapping it around your middle and index finger, creating a slipknot. You wind the silk around your pinky finger, looping back over your foremost and settling in the space between that and your thumb.

You begin weaving, hooking your finger around the length of the gold string and working into stitches until your hands seem to move on their own.

You don't know how much time passes, you don't care. All you can focus on is the interlocking pattern of the small stitches.

You aren't even sure what you're making. You pull on the current loop with your sore fingers. You finally set down the glittering section of your work. You have to see what your work has amounted to.

You look up.

The wooden slats of your windows are slightly ajar, letting in a thin line of honey colored light to grace your eyes.

You blink hard and wipe your eyes. While you have your hands on your face, you feel an indent on your skin. The impression of your sheets mark up your face, along with another impression on your dominant hand. An indent, about the width of a strand of straw, sits like a ring around the middle segment of your forefinger.

You shake off the shiver causing the hair on the nape of you neck to stand on end. You smooth back your hair and take a deep breath.

It's nothing.
