Chapter Text
It’s mid June as Avery sits at his desk, working on an assignment due the next week. College is way harder than he expected. With a groan he stops typing on his laptop and drops his head to the table, closing his eyes.
The black haired man has been working for his classes day and night, being in the middle of exam season. Studying, doing homework and so on. He gets barely any sleep. Sometimes he wonders how his body is still managing to stay awake. Probably because of all the energy drinks he chugs in a day.
The dorm is quiet. Avery’s former roommate has moved out a couple months prior, managing to switch into a dorm with his best friend. Avery really didn’t mind. That just meant more space and silence for him. But sometimes he wishes he had someone to talk to, which made him even more excited when he heard that he’d get a new roommate.
A guy that moved here to America from Germany. A bit of company would do good for the guy.
And so the day arrives. Derek standing in front of the dorm door with all his stuff, knocking, rather than stepping in with the key he was handed. More out of politeness, to make his roommate aware that he’d be here now.
Avery lifts his head from the table and grumbles a small: “Coming.” before forcing himself up and stumbling to the door. As he opens it, his tired, low eyes widen at the sight.
Before him stands a tall, brown haired guy with stunning light brown eyes which could even be considered golden at this point. His face is stoic, showing no hint of emotion and has a couple of freckles splayed across his cheeks here and there. Derek’s hair is messy, but it’s the kind of messy that looks good. He’s slightly tan too, but not as much as Avery himself.
Avery is too captivated to speak, but then finally forces a jumbled mess of words out: “You must- you’re my new roommate, r-right? I’m Avery.” He says hastily, before stretching out his hand In a welcoming gesture.
Derek nods and grabs Avery’s hand in a small handshake. “I’m Derek, nice to meet you.” He replies in a low voice which sends shivers down Avery’s spine.
“C-Come in. Your room is to the left. Mines to the right.” Avery quickly says, stepping out of Derek’s way is he can bring his belongings into his room.
Later at night Avery sits awake at his desk, working on the assignment from earlier, but his brain just doesn’t wish to cooperate. With an annoyed groan he gives in to the tiredness.
He gets up from the chair and ready for bed. As soon as he lays down, does sleep wash over him. He’s exhausted from not having a good nights rest in days. Just this one time. This Saturday night, can he allow himself to rest.
