Chapter Text
The rush of blood...
Spilled life, crimson red, staining Jinx's black and white jester costume. The twitching human lay at his feet, slowly fading into the darkness.
A sudden beam of light..
Jinx jolted upright, the shrill sound of the alarm going off and the harsh sunlight filtered through the curtains of his rented apartment directly onto his face, snapping him out of his dream-like trance... God, he was hungry. Unfortunately for him, his human meat reserves in the freezer had run out last night.
He looked down at the alarm, it read 5:09am... There wasn't any possibility that a human would be out and about this early in the morning, unless they were an idiot of course. Jinx dragged a hand down his face, the strain of keeping up his shapeshifted human form settling in.. he felt an intense urge to stretch out and just let go.
Dragging himself to his feet, he stalked towards the bathroom, still getting used to living in a human abode. Once inside the bathroom, Jinx simply stared at his reflection for a moment. The creature that looked back at him was human, meaning his disguise managed to hold up during the night. It honestly pissed him off, he couldn't even sleep in peace without the possible threat of a human breaking in. How annoying...
He was still half asleep, so he splashed his face with ice cold water, flinching him awake properly. He stripped, stepping into the shower and turning it on cold. Why would humans use this instead of just grooming themselves? Jinx concluded that he shouldn't think about it. If he wanted to hide as a human, he might as well live like one too.

Out on the streets of this rather small town. Jinx, whom was now in his black and white jester costume, had been performing a few acts here and there for a couple hours. He was already bored of these people, yet he knew money was crucial for his survival as a 'human', so he endured. Presenting himself as a rather outgoing and talkative performer.
The flyers littered around the streets were rather hard to miss, Jinx wondered what they were for, reading one of them. To his surprise, a circus had arrived in this small town, in which he found rather intriguing. Pocketing the flyer so he wouldn't forget, he collected the money he had gathered for the morning.
His train of thought was cut off by a rather loud thud...
Looking over, he spotted a man looming over a rather pitiful looking clown clutching his cheek. It looked like the man had hit the clown, a small bloody bruise welling up upon the clown's cheek.
"Hey!! Get out of here, weirdo!!"
The man looming over the clown had shouted rather loudly, gaining the attention of many people passing by.
"Ever since you guys showed up, people have been disappearing! Go back to whatever hellhole you crawled out of!!"
A rather large crowd had begun to gather, Jinx stayed a little further away from the crowd, expressing anger at how cruel humans were. How could the disappearances be the clown's fault? He was just doing his job!!!
"I'm talking to you, freak! Get out of town!!!"
Jinx did admit to himself that some of the disappearances were his own fault, yet his train of thought was again cut off, this time by a rather surprising occurrence...
A human (y/n), no less a rather average looking one positioned themselves between the man and the clown, yelling at the man in defence of the clown...
"That's enough! There's no need to get violent! He's just doing his job!"
The man huffed and grumbled 'working for the devil, maybe' under his breath, y/n seemed to have caught on, as they responded with a threat to the man.
"I'm calling the police if you keep this up."
Y/n grabbed out their phone, getting ready to dial, just before the man snapped and yelled at them.
"Screw that! Open your eyes. I hope they take you too!"
After that short outburst the man walked away... prompting y/n to turn on their heel to face the clown. The crowd had begun to disperse after the man left, Jinx looked rather out of place just like the clown does, due to his jester costume. Luckily for Jinx, neither the clown nor y/n had noticed him watching them closely...
"Are you okay? I'll help you get up."
Y/n helped the clown up, standing at his full height, the clown was uncharacteristically tall for a human... Jinx narrowed his eyes and observed him extremely closely..
"Some people are really kind of hot-headed... better not get too close, y'know?"
The clown simply nodded in response, the bells on his costume jingling with the movement. Y/n spotted the bruise upon the clown's cheek, then rummaged through their bag for a moment, pulling out a pink bandage with a cat on it, holding it out and offering it to the clown.
"Here, I've got a bandage, take it."
The clown walked up and took the bandage from y/n, tilting his head at them. Jinx noted down the rather canine movement of the clown, he was certain that this clown wasn't as human as he looked... y/n then spoke up.
"But if it still feels bad, you should see a doctor."
Jinx was already bored of this interaction, still rather surprised neither had noticed him watching them yet. Noting down the clown's silence, concluding that he must be some sort of modernised Pierrot.
Y/n spoke again before stepping back from the Pierrot and waving goodbye as they walked away. Instead of going back to whatever he was doing before, the Pierrot followed the human without them knowing. Jinx spotted the feral look of obsession in the Pierrot's eyes, it was quite obvious that this Pierrot wasn't human. Yet Jinx couldn't distinguish what species Pierrot was due to the sweet scents of fairy floss and humans that clung to him. Although he did catch a whiff of blood...
Jinx smirked before going back to his street acts. It seems today will be interesting after all...
