Chapter Text
The Kingdom of Fiore. A politically neutral nation home to seventeen million people. Magic thrives in this land — bought, sold, and woven into the fabric of everyday life. Those who practice it, who build their lives around it, are known as Mages. Every Mage belongs to a guild, taking on jobs and quests as they come. Guilds dot every corner of the kingdom. And yet, in one particular town, one particular guild has been forging legends since time immemorial — and will continue to do so forever... Its name: Fairy Tail
(Fairy Tail OST - Happy Theme)
Inside the hall of the famous Fairy Tail guild, everyone was in high spirits. Each member found their own way to pass the time — feasting and making merry with friends, heading out to take on jobs, or simply spending time with the people they cared about. There was never a shortage of things to do at Fairy Tail.
? ? ?: *sighs* Things have been so boring around here lately...
The one complaining was Natsu Dragneel. A young Mage who wielded the power of fire — more specifically, a Fire Dragon Slayer.
? ? ?: Exactly. A little peace and quiet never hurt anyone. It's already a miracle this guild hasn't been turned completely upside-down.
A young woman with long blonde hair walked over to Natsu to answer him. That was Lucy Heartfilia, a Celestial Wizard and Natsu's partner.
? ? ?: Easy for you to say, Lucy. But knowing Natsu, I give it five minutes before things get lively again.
Lucy: Don't say that, Happy. Now you've jinxed it.
Flying alongside the two of them, Happy, a small blue Exceed, had joined the conversation. After hearing Happy's remark, Lucy was desperate to prove him wrong. To her great dismay, a barrel came hurtling straight toward them at that very moment. Spotting the incoming projectile, Lucy panicked and dove out of the way.
Lucy: Whoa! Watch out!
Natsu: Huh?
Hearing Lucy cry out so suddenly, Natsu looked over to see what had startled her. Lucy had been lucky enough to dodge — but Natsu wasn't. The barrel hit him square in the face, sending him stumbling to the ground.
Happy: See? What did I tell you?
Lucy: That was dangerous! For crying out loud, who threw a barrel like that?!
Lucy fumed.
? ? ?: That's how a real man gets things done.
A deep, booming voice rolled across the entire guild hall. It belonged to Elfman Strauss, an enormously tall and muscular man with gray hair, who appeared to be behind the whole incident. Lucy immediately marched over to him.
Lucy: Why did you throw that barrel at me?! I almost took it right to the face!
She snapped. Elfman just smiled.
Elfman: Simply to prove that nothing is impossible for a man who accepts any challenge!
Lucy: And what exactly was the challenge?
Elfman: Throwing a barrel as far as possible.
Lucy: Think about the people around you! What if someone had gotten seriously hurt?!
Happy: Don't worry, Lucy. In the end it was Natsu who took the hit, so all's well that ends well.
Lucy: You could at least pretend to be a little worried about your friend.
Happy: It's Natsu. He'll be fine.
Elfman: Come on, bring me another barrel! Let's see if I can throw it even farther!
Elfman demanded, riding the rush of adrenaline.
? ? ?: I'm warning you — you'd better not throw one that's still full of booze.
At that moment, Cana Alberona, a young woman with brown hair, called out to Elfman from where she sat — drinking an entire barrel of alcohol entirely on her own. Just then, Natsu picked himself back up off the floor.
Natsu: Ow! Alright, who the heck chucked that thing at my face?!
The young man yelled, holding the barrel that had hit him in his right hand.
Happy: Look right in front of you, Natsu.
Natsu: Huh?!
Natsu's eyes landed on Elfman, who was also holding a barrel. It only took a second to connect the dots.
Natsu: Elfman! So it was you who chucked that at me!
Without hesitating, Natsu hurled the barrel right back. Just like what had happened to Natsu, the barrel connected directly with Elfman's face, sending him reeling.
Natsu: Come on then! I'll rearrange your face!
Natsu challenged him.
Elfman: And I'll accept that duel with pleasure — like a real man!
As Natsu and Elfman began tearing the place up, a young man at a nearby table voiced his complaints about the racket.
? ? ?: It was perfectly quiet just a few minutes ago, and now that idiot is already making a racket first thing in the morning.
That was Gray Fullbuster, one of Fairy Tail's finest Ice Mages, and Natsu's greatest rival.
? ? ?: Unfortunately, "shutting Natsu up" is a mission destined to fail.
A new feminine voice had addressed Gray. It belonged to Mirajane Strauss, the guild's barmaid, a former S-Class Mage, and Elfman's older sister. She poured Gray a drink, and another voice soon joined the conversation.
? ? ?: That's just our Natsu. Nothing we can do about it. But that's also what makes him so endearing, right?
That was Lisanna Strauss, the youngest of the Strauss siblings.
Gray: I could do without it.
Gray replied.
He had been drinking in peace, completely unaware of what was coming. Without any warning, Elfman crashed into him with full force.
Gray: Bfffaarrgg!
The collision sent both men flying into the guild's furniture. The cause? Natsu had thrown such a powerful punch that he'd sent Elfman launching through the air — and by sheer bad luck, Gray had been standing directly in the flight path.
Natsu: Now do you understand who's the boss around here?!
Natsu bragged.
Elfman: A real man never abandons a fight — he battles to the very end.
Elfman shot back.
But before he could do anything, Gray delivered a sharp kick to the back of his head.
Gray: Natsu! You jerk! This time I'm freezing you solid!
Gray roared, clearly furious at being dragged into this during his moment of peace.
Natsu: Oh yeah? I'd love to see you try, Ice Princess!
He mocked him, teeth bared in a grin.
Gray: Who are you calling Ice Princess, you loud-mouthed hothead?!
Gray fired back with an insult of his own.
Natsu: You! Who else would I mean?!
Gray: And what's that supposed to mean?!
Cana: Gray, put your clothes back on.
Gray: Huh?
Gray looked down at himself and was startled to realize he'd somehow undressed again without noticing.
Gray: Whoa! My clothes!
While Gray was busy trying to figure out when exactly he'd stripped, a young woman with blue hair was hiding behind a pillar, watching him intently.
? ? ?: Gray-sama... I could watch you like this day and night and never grow tired of it.
That young woman was Juvia Lockser, a Mage who was completely and utterly in love with Gray.
At another table, two other voices could be heard.
? ? ?(1): As usual, those two can't stop fighting. It gets tiresome seeing this every single day.
? ? ?(2): Come now, Carla. I'm sure Natsu-san and Gray-san are trying to understand each other in their own way... at least, that's how I'd like to see it.
The first voice belonged to Carla, a white-furred Exceed who, like Happy, could speak and fly. The second belonged to
Wendy Marvell, a young girl of about twelve or thirteen, wearing a green dress and sporting long blue hair tied in twin pigtails.
? ? ?: Gi hi hi... Things are heating up over there. Think I'll join in.
That low, rough voice could only belong to Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer.
? ? ?: And what exactly do you gain from throwing yourself into every brawl?
The one asking the question was Levy McGarden. There was a hint of a sigh in her voice — as if she'd have much preferred Gajeel to stay put rather than go looking for a fight.
? ? ?: Don't bother trying to stop him, Levy. It's just his warrior instinct kicking in.
The guild's third Exceed, Panther Lily, Gajeel's partner, informed Levy that it was pointless. Once Gajeel had fighting on his mind, no one could stop him.
? ? ?(1): These guys... I can't even drink in peace.
A blond-haired young man grumbled.
? ? ?(2): How dare they disturb your peace. Don't worry, Laxus. I'll go sort them out.
Another young man with green hair announced proudly.
? ? ?(3): If you go in there, you'll just make even more noise, you know.
A young woman with long brown hair and glasses warned him.
? ? ?(4): No point wasting our time. They're not even worth our attention. Isn't that right, my babies?
A tall man who permanently wore a helmet covering the upper half of his face replied.
"Not worth it! Not worth it!"
These four were well known throughout the guild. The blond-haired young man was Laxus Dreyar, widely regarded as one of Fairy Tail's most powerful Mages. The other three were Freed Justine, Evergreen, and Bickslow. Together, the four of them made up the famous "Thunder God Tribe."
As time went on, the guild hall grew louder and louder, with Natsu, Gray, Gajeel, Elfman, and a handful of other members all throwing themselves into the chaos. Eventually, it was Lucy's turn to voice her exasperation.
(Fairy Tail Nigiyaka na Machi OST vol 1)
Lucy: So long, brief moment of peace.
She sighed. At that moment, Wendy and Carla came over to join her.
Carla: What did you expect? It's physically impossible for them to behave themselves for more than a minute straight.
Carla replied knowingly.
Happy: Carla is absolutely right. As always.
Happy chimed in cheerfully. Wendy joined the conversation:
Wendy: It must not be easy having Natsu around every day. Right, Lucy?
She sympathized.
Lucy: You have no idea...
Lucy said with a weary tone. A few seconds passed, and then she smiled.
Lucy: But you know what? After everything we've been through, I'll take our everyday brawls over the battles we were forced to fight six months ago any day.
Wendy: I couldn't agree more, Lucy. Even after six months, it still feels like just yesterday that we finished our war against Alvarez.
What were Lucy and Wendy referring to? That's what we're about to find out. Alvarez is one of the largest nations in Earthland. This vast empire was once founded by Zeref Dragneel, the legendary Black Mage, and the older brother of Natsu. Using his powerful army, Zeref had declared war on Fairy Tail — the greatest threat the guild had ever faced. Fortunately for them, every person whose life Fairy Tail had touched, everyone whose world had been changed for the better by the guild, was determined to push back the invaders and come to Fairy Tail's aid in return. Over the course of the war, the members of Fairy Tail uncovered the dark secrets of the Alvarez Empire and the true motivations of its ruler, Zeref — including shocking truths about his past and the real nature of his connection to Natsu.
In the end, the guild rallied together to face the Alvarez Empire in an epic final battle against the empire's elite soldiers: the Spriggan Twelve. The heroes fought with unwavering courage and determination, channeling their incredible magical power to defeat their enemies and protect everything they held dear. Despite devastating losses along the way, Fairy Tail triumphed over the Alvarez Empire and Zeref, saving their country and the people they loved.
Lucy: Me too. Before, I would have found all this noise and chaos annoying. But after our brutal battle against Zeref and the Spriggan Twelve, I've come to realize that watching them fight for fun is what makes Fairy Tail special. At least no one's fighting to the death.
Lucy explained.
Wendy: You're right.
Just then, the two girls ducked in a hurry to avoid chunks of wood flying in every direction as the brawl intensified by the minute.
Lucy: I know I just said I appreciate their daily fights now, but I would really love it if, just once, I could spend a normal, quiet day at the guild without nearly getting hit by some random projectile out of nowhere.
Lucy confessed, looking completely defeated.
Wendy: That... might be a tall order. Ha ha ha...
Wendy replied with a forced laugh.
Natsu: Come on! I'll take you all on at once!
Gray: Don't get too big for your boots, Natsu!
Gajeel: Gi hi hi! Bring it, losers!
Elfman: I'll show you all how a real man fights!
Then, with a single slam of a fist against a wooden table, someone brought the whole guild hall to a halt.
? ? ?: ENOUGH! All of you, calm down this instant!
That commanding voice belonged to Erza Scarlet, the most powerful Mage in Fairy Tail, known by many as the "Queen of the Fairies" — or simply "Titania." At her command, the entire guild snapped to attention, standing straight as soldiers, some looking deeply uncomfortable, others frozen solid with fear.
Erza: I have nothing against you all letting loose. It's been six months since our battle with Alvarez, and so far, no new threat has appeared. But that's no excuse for reckless behavior. When we least expect it, something on the scale of Alvarez could emerge again. We can't afford to grow complacent. So then... would anyone care to explain what possessed you to DESTROY MY CAKE?!
She cried out, shocking everyone in the guild.
As it turned out, Erza had been sitting quietly in a corner, savoring a slice of strawberry cake, when one of the flying projectiles smashed right into it. The sight of her ruined dessert was what had sent her over the edge. She summoned a sword into her hand.
Erza: Everyone, come here so I can cut you all down!
She threw herself into the brawl — though rather than fighting, everyone was now trying desperately to escape her wrath.
Lucy: Yep. They're done for.
Lucy commented.
Happy: You could always go save Natsu, you know.
Happy asked Lucy.
Lucy: No thanks. If I go in there, I'm dead for sure.
She retorted, pale with fear.
Happy: Coward.
Lucy: Look who's talking! Why don't you go rescue Natsu? Aren't you his best friend?
An annoyed Lucy shot back, offended by Happy's remark.
Happy: I have absolutely no interest in being sliced to pieces.
Lucy: Then don't call others out if you don't have the guts to go yourself.
The chaos only grew as the others ran in every direction trying to escape Erza's fury.
Erza: Stop running! Get back here!
And in the middle of all that noise, a new voice made itself heard.
? ? ?: As per usual, you children simply cannot resist causing a ruckus, can you?
Lucy, Wendy, Happy, and Carla turned to see who had arrived.
Mirajane: Oh, good morning, Master. How are you?
It was Makarov Dreyar, an extremely elderly man who served as the Guild Master of Fairy Tail. He took full responsibility for every member of the guild and their actions — and in many ways, thought of them all as his own children.
Makarov: It could be better. Since our battle against Alvarez, I've felt age catching up with me a little more each day. But it's that very ache that reminds me I'm still alive — and able to cherish every moment with you youngsters.
He said, full of quiet wisdom.
Mirajane: Oh, Master...
Mirajane replied, visibly moved by the moment.
Makarov: In any case, for better or worse, I intend to carry out my duties as Guild Master until the very end. Now then — Erza?
Hearing the Master's voice, Erza stopped mid-swing and resumed her composed, serious demeanor.
Erza: Yes, Master? What is it?
Makarov: I need to speak with you privately. Could you come to my office, please?
Erza: Of course, Master. I'll be right there.
Erza headed toward the indicated room — only to be interrupted by a familiar voice.
Natsu: What?! Only Erza? That's not fair! I bet the old man's about to give her something awesome! I want in too!
Natsu complained.
Faced with Natsu's childish outburst, a worried Lucy was quick to respond.
Lucy: Natsu, if the Master is specifically calling for Erza, then maybe the mission isn't exactly going to be a walk in the park!
Wendy: Lucy's right, Natsu. Since Erza is an S-Class Mage, it could mean the Master has a mission that only she can handle.
Natsu: Exactly! Which means she's definitely going to do something awesome. No reason she should have all the fun!
Lucy: Because to you, life-or-death situations count as fun?!
Lucy replied, exasperated.
Gray: Give it up, Lucy. He's a lost cause.
Gray said with a smirk.
But then, the Master announced something that caught the whole group off guard.
Makarov: As a matter of fact, to Natsu's great delight, this mission doesn't only concern Erza.
Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Wendy, and Erza: Huh?!
Makarov: The mission is for all of you, actually — the strongest team in Fairy Tail. So I need every one of you in my office, kids.
At those words, Natsu couldn't hold back any longer.
Natsu: Yeah! Now we're talking! You're the best, old man!
His enthusiasm, however, didn't exactly inspire confidence in everyone else — particularly Lucy and Wendy.
Lucy: Oh no... what are we getting dragged into this time?
Wendy: I just hope it isn't anything too dangerous...
Gray: As much as I hate to agree with Natsu, a little action would be good for shaking up this dull routine we've been stuck in.
Erza: Whatever awaits us, if the Master believes we're the only ones who can handle it, then we must live up to the trust he places in us. Let's go, everyone.
Natsu: Right behind you, Erza!
And with that, Natsu and his friends made their way toward the Master's office.
(Ayashii Madoushi Fairy Tail OST vol 2)
In the Master's quarters, Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Erza, Wendy, Happy, and Carla had all gathered, waiting for his explanation.
Natsu: Alright, old man, spill it. What's the mission?
Natsu demanded impatiently.
Erza: Settle down, Natsu. Let the Master speak at his own pace.
Erza warned her friend.
Gray: Asking Natsu to settle down? That's asking the impossible, Erza.
Gray snickered. Natsu did not appreciate the comment.
Natsu: You wanna say that again, Gray?
Gray: See? Can't put him on mute.
Natsu: Jerk!
Fed up with the noise the two Mages were making, Erza struck both of them to force some quiet.
Erza: That's enough! You're in the Master's presence! Show some respect, both of you!
Natsu and Gray: Yes... Erza...
They replied, both looking the worse for wear with giant lumps on their heads.
Lucy: Anyway, Master, just ignore those two — please tell us what we need to do.
Lucy asked.
Makarov gathered his thoughts.
Makarov: Well, you see... there have been reports of some very strange and rather disturbing occurrences taking place in the
West Forest
Wendy: The West Forest, you say?
Makarov: Indeed. Witnesses say that deep within the forest, they heard strange, unsettling animal howls.
Erza: Howls?
Makarov: Yes. According to the witnesses, the howls resemble those of a wild beast — something from the canid family, by their accounts.
Lucy: The canid family?
Natsu: Huh? The what now? What are you even talking about?
Gray: You don't even know that? I'm starting to think there's actually nothing up there.
Gray mocked him again.
Natsu: Oh, so you know what they're talking about, do you?
Natsu shot back, irritated.
Gray: Obviously, you moron! Canids are a family of animals. In plain terms, it's the same family as dogs and wolves.
Makarov: That's exactly right, Gray.
Gray: Well? What did I tell you?
Gray replied with a smug grin, proud to have shown more general knowledge than Natsu.
Natsu: Alright, alright, no need to show off. I would've gotten it if the old man had just said dogs, wolves, or something like that.
Natsu muttered.
Natsu: Dogs... the natural enemy of cats... Right, Carla?
Carla: Technically, we are Exceeds, and I am in no way afraid of dogs or any other animals, Happy.
Happy: Ah... y-yeah... me neither...
Happy replied, though he wasn't exactly convincing.
Erza: In any case, you said people have been hearing this creature's howls. Am I to understand that our mission is to track it down?
Natsu: Hmph... That's less exciting than I expected.
He said, looking disappointed.
Lucy: Don't complain! Compared to everything we've been through, I would be more than happy with a mission that isn't terrifyingly dangerous.
Makarov: Unfortunately, Lucy, it's likely to be a bit more complicated than you think.
Hearing the Master's words, Lucy felt a creeping unease take hold of her.
Lucy: What?! What do you mean by that, Master?
Makarov: If we were dealing with an ordinary wild animal, I assure you this request would never have reached me. The fact is, this creature is far more dangerous than anyone initially expected.
He warned the group.
Wendy: Really, Master?
Makarov: Indeed. When witnesses attempted to get a look at the creature, they were torn apart without any warning.
(Fairy Tail Rakuen no Tou OST vol 1)
The members were stunned.
Happy: Seriously?!
Makarov: Yes. They were aware they were dealing with something, but the creature moved far too fast to be properly identified — or even seen clearly.
Erza: It's clear that an ordinary hunter would stand no chance against a creature like that.
Makarov: That's why, as soon as the first warnings came in, Mages who answered the job posting went after the mystery.
Gray: But I take it even they couldn't get the job done — otherwise you wouldn't be telling us this.
The young Ice Mage surmised.
Makarov: Excellent deduction, Gray. When those Mages sensed the creature approaching, they managed to hold their own as best they could — doing everything possible to avoid fatal wounds. Unfortunately, they weren't prepared for what came next.
The Fairy Tail members grew more confused by the second and pressed for answers.
Natsu: What do you mean, old man?
Makarov: It appears this creature is capable of using Magic.
That declaration only deepened the group's shock.
Lucy: What did you just say, Master?!
She exclaimed.
Erza: An animal that can use Magic?
She could barely believe what she was hearing.
Wendy: Is that even possible?
Wendy asked, bewildered.
Gray: You sure you weren't hitting the bottle a little too hard when you heard this, old man?
Gray replied, still struggling to accept what the Master was saying.
Makarov: Absolutely certain.
He affirmed.
Natsu: I don't see what the big deal is. Happy, Carla, and Lily can all use Magic, and they're cats.
Carla: Excuse me! I forbid you from putting us in the same category as animals. We are Exceeds! Yes, we may resemble cats in appearance, but we are far more advanced than any ordinary animal.
Natsu: Ehh... same thing to me.
Happy: That's our Natsu. He sees things his own way.
Lucy: You're sure this animal actually managed to use Magic?
Makarov: According to the testimonies, just as the first group of Mages felt they were closing in on getting a good look at the creature, it let out a howl — and most of them were left completely scorched.
Lucy: For real?!
Hearing this, Lucy felt her anxiety growing. She couldn't wrap her head around how such a creature could exist.
Wendy: So it commands fire-based Magic?
The youngest girl deduced.
Makarov: That seems to be the case. Everywhere the creature has passed through, burn marks have been found in the surrounding area.
Erza: Truly? An unidentified creature that can harness Magic on top of everything else. That is genuinely strange, I must say.
Makarov: That's why all of this information was sent to us. Faced with a dangerous creature whose behavior is completely unknown — one that could potentially become a serious threat — they need experienced Mages to solve this mystery. Kids, I think you've already figured it out: your mission is to investigate this creature and find a way to neutralize it!
Natsu slammed his fists together. Flames burst out at the point of impact.
(Rengougun, Shuuketsu! Fairy Tail OST vol 3)
Natsu: Now that sounds interesting! A mysterious creature that can harness fire Magic? I have to see it with my own eyes!
Natsu announced, grinning from ear to ear.
Gray: And there it is. Our resident animal is all fired up.
Gray replied, visibly annoyed.
Lucy: Oh no... Here we go again, off on yet another bizarre and undoubtedly dangerous adventure.
Lucy lamented, tears welling up.
Wendy: Don't worry, Lucy. I'll do my best to support the team, just like always.
Wendy tried her best to reassure her.
Erza: Master, you can count on us to see this mission through to success.
Makarov: Good.
As the group began to leave, Makarov called after them one last time.
Makarov: One last thing.
Gray: What is it, old man?
Makarov: I'd suggest inviting two more members to come along with you.
The group was surprised by the suggestion.
Natsu: Huh? Why, old man? The five of us can more than handle this. No need to bring anyone else.
Makarov: I have no doubt about your ability. I know exactly how strong you all are. And yet... I can't quite explain it, but something deep down tells me you might need the extra help.
Natsu: Really, old man, it's not nec—
Suddenly, Erza cut him off.
Erza: Understood, Master. We'll follow your advice. We'll ask two more members to join us.
Natsu: But Erza—
Erza: Don't question the Master's orders, Natsu! Understood?!
Erza replied with an air of absolute authority.
Natsu: Yes!
He answered, snapping to attention, visibly intimidated.
Lucy: You know, Natsu, having a little extra help every now and then doesn't hurt.
Gray: The question is who we're going to ask.
Natsu: Alright, whatever! Let's not waste time. We need to find two more people and get moving!
With that, Natsu's team filed out of Makarov's office, leaving the old Master alone with his thoughts.
(Fairy Tail Shinobiyoru Kage OST vol 1)
Makarov: I'm probably worrying over nothing. After the war with Alvarez, they can overcome anything that comes their way. And yet... I can't shake this feeling. ...Maybe I really am getting too old. That must be it.
(01. Prologue | RWBY: Ice Queendom「氷雪帝国」)
Legends... Stories passed down through the ages. Long ago, humans were born from dust. They brimmed with ingenuity and drive. But creatures of destruction, born of shadow and unable to escape the darkness — the Grimm — made humans their enemies. Just as humanity feared it would crumble to dust once more, a small spark of hope ignited a great blaze of light. With skill and cleverness, mankind developed a new power they called "Dust". Humanity pushed back the darkness and reclaimed its civilization.
Remnant. Humanity has thrived in this world — until the day terrifying creatures known as the Grimm invaded, threatening the very existence of mankind. To fight these ruthless enemies, Hunters and Huntresses were trained. These elite warriors learned to harness their Aura — the manifestation of their very soul — combined with advanced technology and physical strength, to battle the Grimm and protect humanity. Today, Hunters and Huntresses are celebrated as heroes, admired by every soul across Remnant.
The world of Remnant is divided into several great regions, each with its own culture, flora, and fauna. There is the Kingdom of Vacuo, the Kingdom of Atlas, the Kingdom of Mistral, and finally, the Kingdom of Vale.
The Kingdom of Vale is a city-state nestled at the heart of Remnant, surrounded by imposing mountains and vast forests. For centuries, Vale has been known for its wealth and prosperity, and is considered one of the world's greatest centers of commerce and culture. The city itself is an eclectic blend of architectural styles — ancient medieval structures alongside modern, futuristic towers. Its streets are lively and crowded, filled with people of every race and background: humans, Faunus, and even androids moving side by side.
The center of Vale is dominated by a massive communications tower — the Vale Tower — rising hundreds of meters above the city. The tower serves as the seat of the government and the Hunter academy, one of the kingdom's most prestigious centers of learning. Yet for all its prosperity, Vale is not immune to the dangers that threaten Remnant. For years, the city has been protected by teams of Hunters and Huntresses — warriors specially trained to fight the Grimm that lurk in the surrounding forests.
In short, while Vale is a welcoming and cosmopolitan city, it is also a place of real tension and uncertainty. But for the people who call it home, that's simply life — a life that goes on in this fascinating, vibrant city at the heart of Remnant.
Beacon Academy, located in the Kingdom of Vale, is one of the most prestigious Huntsman academies in all of Remnant. It is renowned for training elite Hunters and Huntresses capable of protecting the world against the Grimm and other threats. The campus is vast and beautiful, with well-maintained buildings and gardens spread throughout. At the center of campus stands the Clock Tower — a landmark recognizable to students and visitors alike, its massive clock face visible from across the city of Vale.
The academy itself is divided into several departments, each specializing in a particular area of the hunting arts. Students can choose to focus on fields such as close-quarters combat, ranged weapons, medicine, and much more. They are encouraged to explore and develop their abilities in order to become fully realized Hunters.
Students at Beacon live and study together, forming a tight-knit and supportive community. They attend academic classes to build theoretical knowledge, but they also spend significant time training in the field — facing Grimm in real combat situations to put what they've learned to the test. Beacon Academy is guided by a council of highly experienced professors, who shepherd students throughout their training. Among them are legendary Hunters and Huntresses whose exploits have been etched into the history of Remnant.
In short, Beacon Academy is an exceptional training ground for those who aspire to become elite Hunters or Huntresses. With its renowned faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and stimulating learning environment, it stands as the number one choice for those who want to make a real difference in the world of Remnant.
And it is here that a particular group of four young women can be found.
(Academy Life [Pt. 2] RWBY - Ice Queendom OST)
? ? ?(1): Mmmm! *stretches* Finally, classes are done for the day!
That voice belonged to a fifteen-year-old girl with black hair, fair skin, and silver eyes. A red hooded cape was pinned to her shoulders. Her name was Ruby Rose.
? ? ?(2): I still think additional class hours wouldn't be such a bad idea.
The second voice belonged to Weiss Schnee, a seventeen-year-old young woman with pale skin, light blue eyes, and long white hair pulled back in a ponytail.
? ? ?(3): I swear, only you would think more classes would be "beneficial" for the group, Ice Queen.
Weiss: Yang! I've told you not to call me that.
Yang Xiao Long, a tall seventeen-year-old with fair skin, lilac eyes, and brilliantly golden hair, couldn't help teasing Weiss. She was also Ruby's older sister.
? ? ?(4): Jokes aside, Weiss, focusing only on theory won't get us anywhere. There's real value in practical experience too.
Blake Belladonna, an eighteen-year-old with fair skin, wavy black hair, amber eyes, and a black bow perched on her head, gently reminded her teammate that there needed to be a balance between theory and practice.
Ruby: Blake definitely knows what she's talking about. Not surprising, coming from a former White Fang member.
She said casually. The remark made Blake visibly tense.
Blake: Ruby... it'd be nice if you could avoid bringing that up here at the Academy.
She said, clearly unsettled. Realizing what she'd said, Ruby quickly apologized.
Ruby: Oops... sorry, Blake...
But her teammate smiled back at her.
Blake: It's nothing.
Together, these four young women made up Team RWBY — one of the many teams training at Beacon Academy in hopes of becoming seasoned Huntresses. Their determination, teamwork, and courage had set them apart from the other students, and they had quickly earned a reputation for their strength and skill.
Ruby: Alright! We've got some free time on our hands. What do you all want to do?
Ruby, the team leader, asked her teammates.
Weiss: If everyone agrees, I think we should train. With the Vytal Festival approaching, it would be beneficial to develop new combination techniques against the competing teams.
She suggested to her friends.
Yang: That's our Weiss alright. Always prepared for every problem Team RWBY might face.
Weiss: I'm simply being sensible, Yang. It wouldn't hurt you to anticipate danger instead of charging in headfirst like you always do.
She warned her.
Yang: Sorry, but I'm a woman of action. I need to throw myself into the fight, heart and soul.
She shot back.
Ruby: Yeah, that's my big sis!
Ruby exclaimed.
Blake: Don't encourage her, Ruby.
Ruby: Either way, Weiss's idea isn't bad. Come on, let's go train and get ready for the Vytal Festival!
Yang: Right behind you, Ruby!
Team RWBY had barely made it a few steps toward the training hall when a familiar voice stopped them.
? ? ?: There you are, Team RWBY.
They turned to see Glynda Goodwitch, a middle-aged woman with light blond hair pinned in a neat bun and slim oval glasses. She was a member of the faculty at Beacon Academy.
Ruby: Professor Goodwitch! Is there a problem?
Ruby asked.
Glynda: Headmaster Ozpin has asked me to come find you. He wants to see you in his office.
At that announcement, all four girls exchanged surprised looks.
Weiss: Really? The Headmaster wants to see us?
Glynda: Indeed. To be straightforward, he has a mission to assign you.
Blake: A mission? Right as the Vytal Festival is approaching?
Blake said, taken aback.
Glynda: Unfortunately, yes. Even in the midst of festival preparations, there are dangers we simply cannot ignore. Headmaster Ozpin can explain the situation to you better than I can. Don't keep him waiting — follow me.
Confused as they were by their teacher's sudden summons, Ruby and the rest of her team knew they had to find out what Beacon's Headmaster needed from them.
Ruby: We'll follow you, Professor Goodwitch.
With those words, Ruby and the rest of her team followed the professor. A short while later, the four of them stood before a white-haired man in round glasses who appeared to be in his forties.
(Day Off - RWBY Ice Queendom OST)
Ruby: Good afternoon, Headmaster Ozpin.
Ozpin: Good afternoon, Team RWBY.
Weiss: We were told you have a mission for us, sir.
Ozpin: Indeed. I apologize for calling you in when festival preparations are already underway. I imagine you already had your own plans as the Vytal Festival approaches.
Ruby: Don't worry about it, Headmaster Ozpin. Helping people in need is part of our duty as Huntresses. Right, everyone?
Ruby asked her friends. Each of them gave their answer.
Weiss: Ruby's right. Huntresses are servants of the people. Whatever comes our way, it's our duty to help.
Weiss explained.
Blake: That's especially true with the festival coming up. This celebration exists to honor peace between the kingdoms. Visitors from all three other kingdoms will be flooding into Vale — their safety is a priority in itself.
Blake added her thoughts.
Yang: Besides, we were already planning to train ahead of the tournament. If your mission sends us into the field, that's a bonus for us.
Yang replied nonchalantly.
Hearing the girls' answers, Headmaster Ozpin couldn't help but smile.
Ozpin: Thank you for your honesty. I could have chosen any team, but I had a feeling you were the only ones I could truly entrust with this.
Hearing their Headmaster's words, Ruby couldn't help but feel a rush of joy. For Headmaster Ozpin to place that much trust in Ruby and her team meant everything. The other three members of Team RWBY felt equally honored.
Ruby: Headmaster Ozpin... Thank you for trusting us like this. We promise not to let you down.
Ozpin: I have no doubt.
Weiss: So then, Headmaster Ozpin — what exactly is the mission you're assigning us?
Ozpin: Well, you see... we've detected a high level of Grimm activity in the Emerald Forest .
Yang: Well... isn't that kind of expected out there? I mean, it's pretty much their territory — that wouldn't exactly be surprising.
Ozpin: What I mean is that the majority of the Grimm appear to be drawn toward one specific location —
the abandoned temple to the far north.
Ruby: Wait — that place... isn't that where we had to retrieve one of the relics on our very first day of initiation?
Blake: That's right, Ruby. It was.
Yang: Whoa, that brings back memories. That was the day our team fought together for the very first time — against that giant Nevermore.
Weiss: I still wonder how I ended up getting dragged into all of that.
Seeing Team RWBY drift off into nostalgia, the professor cut them off.
Glynda: Girls, please stay focused.
Ruby: Oh! Uh... sorry, Professor.
Ozpin: As I was saying, there is a heavy concentration of Grimm activity there. However, we have no idea what's drawing them to that specific location.
Yang: And I can see where you're going with this. We need to go deal with all those Grimm, right?
Ozpin: You're on the right track, Miss Xiao Long. But before thinking about elimination, it would be wise to understand why the Grimm are moving in this way. What is compelling them to gather in such numbers?
Blake: The Headmaster has a point. If I'm understanding correctly, most of the Grimm are gathering at the northern temple. They're still far enough from the kingdom for now — but there's nothing stopping them from moving our way at any point.
She stated.
Ruby: But — do you remember what Professor Oobleck said? Grimm are attracted by negative emotions. Could that be what's causing this?
Weiss: I suppose that's what we'll have to find out for ourselves.
Ozpin: I'm counting on you, Team RWBY. You are our finest students, and I know you're more than capable of seeing this mission through. We cannot allow the Grimm to remain gathered at that abandoned temple. The Vytal Festival is fast approaching, and the safety of everyone here depends on us staying ahead of threats like this. I know you're ready. Good luck.
Ruby: Thank you, Headmaster Ozpin. You can count on us!
Before they left, Professor Goodwitch felt it was important to give Team RWBY one final piece of advice.
Glynda: Remember — your primary objective is not simply to eliminate every Grimm you encounter. It is to understand why they are gathering at that specific location.
Weiss: Don't worry, Professor. We understand the mission isn't just about fighting Grimm. We'll do everything in our power to assess the situation.
Yang: And worst case, if they spot us, we just smash 'em.
Blake: Yang, let's follow Professor Goodwitch's advice. Don't let the urge to fight distract us — keep the objective in mind.
Yang: Okay, okay. Blake's right. We go in, figure out what's drawing these things, and come back in one piece. Easy, right?
After those last exchanges, Ruby made her announcement.
Ruby: Alright then, Professor Goodwitch, Headmaster Ozpin — on that note, we'll leave you to it. We'll complete this mission and find out what's drawing the Grimm to that area. We won't let you down.
Yang: Let's go, team!
Blake: Ready.
Weiss: We've got our work cut out for us.
The girls said their goodbyes to the adults and left the room, resolute in their determination to see the mission through.
(Departure - RWBY Ice Queendom OST)
Headmaster Ozpin watched the girls go, a look of quiet concern on his face. Despite his confidence in their abilities, he couldn't shake a lingering unease about the mission he'd sent them on. He was well aware of what Grimm were capable of — especially when they gathered in numbers. Professor Goodwitch noticed his expression and spoke up.
Glynda: Do you think Team RWBY will be able to complete their mission, sir?
Ozpin hesitated before answering.
Ozpin: I believe in them, Professor. But I can't help but worry. Grimm can be unpredictable — and the fact that they're gathering in such numbers is deeply troubling.
The professor gave a slow, understanding nod.
Glynda: I understand your concerns, Headmaster. But we must trust our students. They've already proven their courage and resolve time and again. I'm certain they'll carry out this mission brilliantly.
Headmaster Ozpin nodded, somewhat reassured by her words.
Ozpin: You're right, Professor. We must have faith in them — and in their ability to protect our kingdom.
After this exchange, Headmaster Ozpin fell once more into his thoughts.
Ozpin: And yet... something tells me this may not be a situation we're used to handling. I don't know what it is, but my instincts have never led me astray. Please, be careful, girls.
Every pirate chasing after the One Piece had turned their sights toward the second half of the Grand Line — the New World. Yet no one had ever fully explored it, save for Gold Roger, the King of the Pirates. The New World had crushed the dreams and ambitions of countless pirates who came before. And now, Monkey D. Luffy, a boy whose body became like rubber after eating the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit (Gomu Gomu no Mi), and his crew set sail into those very waters.
Luffy: I'm going to be King of the Pirates!
On a dark, turbulent ocean. Massive waves crashed against the hull of a ship rocking violently from side to side. Rain poured down in sheets, filling the air with a heavy, constant roar. Flashes of lightning briefly lit up the sky, revealing the imposing silhouette of the
Thousand Sunny. On deck, the crew fought against the raging elements, gripping the rigging with both hands to keep from being swept away.
Luffy: Come on! Forward!
A voice cut through the noise above the chaos. It belonged to Monkey D. Luffy — the crew's captain. Despite the pandemonium swirling around him, he seemed as optimistic and excited as ever.
? ? ?(1): Ah... ah... ah... ah... ah...
Gripping the ship for dear life, a small reindeer looked absolutely dizzy from the constant rocking.
That was Tony Tony Chopper, the ship's doctor and a proud member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
? ? ?(2): Heh heh heh! We're in real trouble here, aren't we?
Fretting over his own survival, a curly-haired man in a white cap, orange-lensed goggles, and a blue and white armband was frantically trying to figure out how to make it through. That was Usopp, the crew's sharpshooter.
? ? ?(3): Hold on, hold on — are we actually going to survive this?!
Standing on deck was something that could only be described as surreal: a living, talking skeleton with an afro, dressed in an outrageous rocker outfit, heart-shaped pink glasses, a crown-shaped hat, and flowery trousers. This was Brook, the crew's musician.
? ? ?(4): We'll be fine! The Sunny can handle it!
Reassuring his crewmates, Franky, a massively built man and the crew's talented shipwright, steered the ship with relative ease, doing everything he could to keep them on course.
As the sea grew worse, sending most of the crew into a panic, a green-haired man with a scar over his left eye — wearing a long green coat, a red sash at his waist, and three swords at his side — noticed something in the distance.
? ? ?(5): Hm? What is that?
That question came from Zoro, the Straw Hat Pirates' swordsman.
? ? ?(6): No way... please tell me I'm dreaming.
Having spotted the same thing as Zoro, a woman's voice struggled to believe what was right in front of her. Even with all her experience, nothing could have prepared her for this. Nami, the crew's navigator, couldn't hide her disbelief at the sight before her.
? ? ?(7): No question about it. Only in the New World would you see something like this.
Standing beside Nami was Sanji, the crew's head cook — equally taken aback by the sight.
Indeed, flames were rising from the surface of the sea itself, as if the very water were on fire. In the distance, they could make out an island completely engulfed in flame — a blaze that burned even across the ocean.
? ? ?(8): Flames on the sea.
Robin, the crew's archaeologist, observed quietly.
At that same moment, the deep rumble of a volcano erupting reached their ears — somewhere on that unknown island. And of course, this was all the invitation Luffy needed.
Luffy: Did you see that?! A volcano just went off! That island looks amazing — let's go check it out!
As usual, his enthusiasm sent the more cautious members of his crew into a panic.
Usopp, Chopper, and Brook: What?!
Before Luffy could steer the ship toward the island, Nami was quick to intervene.
Nami: Hold on, Luffy!
She glanced down at the Log Pose on her left wrist.
(One Piece OST - Landing At Town (Suspicion Part))
Nami: Just as I thought — none of the Log Pose needles are pointing toward that island!
Luffy: So? That's not a problem. We've got nothing better to do, so let's just go!
Luffy said breezily.
Nami: I said hold on!
Nami snapped.
Luffy: Why?! There are volcanoes! Doesn't that sound fun?! Who could resist?!
Nami: Stop acting like a child and listen to me, Luffy! Something is off about this! Not a single needle on the Log Pose is pointing that way — and that is not a good sign, even in the New World.
Another eruption rumbled in the distance.
Luffy: So cool! Another eruption! We can see the island perfectly from here — it's right there! We don't need the needles! That's it, I've decided! We're landing on that island!
Luffy's attitude pushed Nami past her limit, though she still tried desperately to reason with her captain.
Nami: Impossible! You can clearly see we can't get any closer! It's literally a sea of fire!
But this didn't seem to bother Luffy in the slightest. He just laughed.
Luffy: Shishishi!
Nami: You're completely insane!
As they drew closer, glowing embers drifted through the air around them.
Robin: Embers?
Seeing this, Usopp began to panic.
Usopp: The ship's going to catch fire too!
Franky: As if! The Sunny can handle anything! She will SUPER not let us down! She'll hold up!
Nami: That's not the point! Something is seriously wrong with this sea! Look — there are even fish skeletons floating on the surface!
Then, a moment later, Nami actually registered what she'd just said, frightened by her own words.
Nami: Skeletons?! Ahh! Skeletons!
Brook: Hm? Did you just call for me, Nami-san?
Brook answered, making one of his trademark Skeleton Jokes — earning himself nothing more than a tired sigh from Nami.
? ? ?: Waaaaah... *sniff* Bwaaaaaah...
Suddenly, the sound of crying cut through the noise on deck.
Usopp: Wh-What is that?!
Luffy rushed over and found the Den Den Mushi in tears.
Luffy: Did you see that?! What's going on? The Den Den Mushi is crying! Hey! What's wrong? Does your tummy hurt?
Luffy did everything he could to comfort the little snail.
Sanji: No, you can clearly see it's a distress call. Someone is in danger and calling for help.
Sanji replied.
Luffy: So if I answer it, I can talk to them, right?
Luffy was about to pick it up when Robin tried to warn him.
(One Piece OST - Desperate Situation)
Robin: Wait, Luffy! More than fifty percent of distress calls are fake. We need to stay on guard! For all we know, it could be another Marine trap — the kind they use all the time. If they're monitoring the line, they could pinpoint our location.
Robin warned him, looking uneasy.
Usopp: That's our Robin! Hey, Luffy, take her advice — you need to be care—
*click*
Usopp: ...Huh?!
Luffy: Hello?! My name is Monkey D. Luffy! I'm gonna be King of the Pirates!
Luffy announced, completely ignoring Robin and Usopp's warnings.
Usopp: You shouldn't have answered! And you said way too much!
Usopp yelled, knocking Luffy over the head.
? ? ?: Waaaaaah...! Someone help me!
A man's voice cried out.
Luffy: Hey! What's going on?!
? ? ?: *sniff* I-I'm cold. Are you the Boss?
The unknown voice asked.
Luffy: No, I'm not the Boss. Is it cold where you are?
? ? ?: My friends are being cut down one by one... *hic* The samurai is going to kill us all!
Those last words made Zoro react.
Zoro: A samurai?
Luffy: Wait! Tell me your name! Where are you?!
? ? ?: *sniff* Please, someone help me! I'm on... on... Punk Hazard !
Luffy: Huh?!
*slash*
? ? ?: Arrrggghhh! Guoargh...
Toward the very end of the call, the sound of a blade cutting through the air rang out — as if whoever was on the other end had been slashed. And indeed, that seemed to be the case, for the Den Den Mushi mimicked the sight of blood dripping from its mouth. The image left Usopp and Chopper absolutely terrified.
Usopp and Chopper: Waaaaaaah! He's dead!
Brook: W-Was that...?
After the call cut off, Luffy closed his eyes and thought it over carefully.
Luffy: Hmm... I think he had a problem.
Usopp: He was just killed! Of course there's a problem! We literally just heard someone die over the phone!
A petrified Usopp replied, eyes nearly bulging out of his head. An equally terrified Chopper added:
Chopper: Ahhh! The New World is terrifying!
Robin: He may have faked his death to lure us into a trap.
Robin replied, still not fully convinced the call was genuine.
Brook: What keen insight! Come on, Robin-san!
He said cheerfully, strumming his guitar.
Zoro: Speaking of samurai, Brook — are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Brook: Yes, my dear Zoro-san... I believe I am.
(One Piece Ost - The Green Terror)
Brook: The legendary warriors of Wano Country. Wano is an isolated nation, completely cut off from the rest of the world — entry is forbidden to all outsiders. It holds no affiliation with the World Government. They say the samurai of Wano are such formidable swordsmen that even the Marines dare not go anywhere near them.
Brook explained to the rest of the crew.
After that, Zoro drifted into his own thoughts, gripping his blade, Shusui.
Usopp: I've never even heard of this country before!
Franky: You're getting off track. The guy said Punk Hazard, not Wano Country. Is he talking about that island on fire?
Robin: He made the call from a Baby Den Den Mushi. The signal isn't strong enough to reach from anywhere farther than that island. It has to be there.
Robin deduced.
Finally, Luffy raised his fist and declared at the top of his lungs.
Luffy: Alright! It's decided! We're going to save that guy!
Nami, Usopp, Chopper, and Brook — each terrified by Luffy's decision — protested one after another.
Nami: No! I don't want to!
Usopp: Think for two seconds, Luffy! It's probably already too late!
Chopper: I'm scared! Samurai are terrifying!
Brook: Indeed, so am I! I am equally terrified!
But as usual, Luffy ignored his crew's protests and made up his mind.
Luffy: Shishishi! Alright, let's go!
And so began an adventure that would inevitably transcend the boundaries of reality itself.
