Reabait made his way across the forest path. Dust was kicked up by every step. And yet his claws sank into the soft earth. Only the Outlands could be so dry and moist at the same time. It wasn’t as bad as it used to be. The Illumination made the place safe enough so long you stayed on the path. But he still couldn’t understand why Skraps had decided to set up his shop here.
It certainly couldn’t be the customers. Those were scarce now, let alone before the Illumination. The area itself was an unlikely option as well. Everything in the Outlands that was made of organic matter was out to kill you.
The most likely option, thought Reabait, was that Skraps simply liked the lack of people. He never had been the most social one.
Reabait stopped. In front of him was a large market stall. Its light tan cloth and warm wood was a stark contrast against the greenish dark shade of the outlands.
Reabait also noticed that the stall’s characteristic skunk owner was missing.
“Skraps?” Reabait’s shout was met with silence. “Skraaaaps.” Still nothing.
Reabait hopped over the counter of the stall. Several mysterious items were lying on the floor. Even though he was a raven, Reabait could not recognize any of them. Skraps always had a hand for finding these things.
Opposite of the stall’s opening was the entrance to a cave, Skraps’ home. Reabait slowly stepped through, his yellow claws clicking against the cold stone floor.
A high-pitched, laid back voice began emanating from behind Reabait. “Well, well, well.”
Reabait spun around, standing there, somewhat below him due to the size difference, was Skraps. “Looks like I’ve got an intruder.”
Reabait formed his beak into a lazy smirk. “Well you left your shop unattended and the door open.”
Skraps narrowed his eyes while grinning. “Hmm, that’s still considered trespassing in the eyes of the law.”
Reabait gave skraps puppy eyes. “Aw, isn’t there anything you could do?”
“I could drop the charges.” Skraps wrapped his tail around Reabait, pulling him closer. “For a price.”
Reabait looked deep into the skunk’s yellow eyes. "And what price would that be?”
Skraps dug his snout into Reabit’s neck giving it a light kiss. “A little bit of this…” The kiss gave Reabait a tickling sensation, making him giggle.
“A little bit of that…” Skraps moved his head up to kiss Reabaits forehead.
Skraps leaned his head away from Reabait to look into his eyes. “And a bit of this.” skraps connected his lips with Reabait’s beak.
Reabait felt heat rising through his body until his cheeks were burning. He decided to mask his flustering with a witty remark. “You really know how to please a guy don’t you.”
Skraps threw the smirk Reabait had put on right back. “Well, you at least.”The skunk leaned in to whisper into the raven’s ear. “After all, I’ve had lots of practice.”
The brown feathered raven’s heart nearly shot out of his chest by how hard and fast it was beating. “Have I told you how much I love you?”
The skunk smiled lovingly. “Mmh, yes. But it’s nice to hear it again.”
Skraps lifted Reabait into the air and spun him around. A soft laugh escaped the raven’s beak, as he closed his eyes and let himself go in the moment. He was happy, spending time with the love of his life.
Their lips met once more in a warm embrace. The hard bone of Reabait’s beak meeting the soft flesh of Skraps’ snout. They stood like this for a while. The raven wished this moment could last forever.
“Well my dear. “ spoke the skunk, their lips parting as he put his partner down on the ground. “There’s more where that came from.”
And with that, Skraps took Reabait’s hand and dragged him to the back of the shop.
