Work Text:

...
Rainbow found himself standing in a field of flowers, a light breeze blowing throughout the large expanse of flora. He didn't remember what he had been doing prior to this moment, only vague, fuzzy remnants. Had he been talking to Sabre? Had he found a blackhole on the floor? Was there anything he had been thinking of when he decided to.. jump into the blackhole.
Right, that was what he had done. He had jumped into the blackhole like an idiot, to save someone he didn't even like that much. What even had caused Galaxy to freak out so badly?! It was insane to think that a literal god was that childish.
Well, whatever he had been expecting when he jumped into this hole, he had not expected this.
Speaking of the flowers, they were really beautiful. It felt like a fever dream.. a dream that he hoped wouldn't end-
He slapped himself hard in the face, his hand coming in contact with the scarred tissue of his Cheshire grin and making the old wound sting, the pain bringing him back to his original train of thought.
" cut it out. "
He murmured to himself. He shook his head and finally looked down to see what was in his surroundings, he was in a field of poppies. He groaned and facepalmed, a bit disappointed he hadn't been more aware. He could've easily been ambushed by someone by letting himself get distracted by the sleepy allure of the flowers. He finally took a few tentative steps, testing the ground, looking for traps. He had come to expect every place to be dangerous ever since The Rainbow Town had been burned to the ground. Upon realizing everything was safe, he sighed in relief, before bringing his foot down on the poppies. He didn't enjoy destroying flowers, their beauty was fragile and all in all a delicate thing, but he knew better than to let himself relax in a field of poppies. With each step he took, he destroyed another, and another, until a trail of damaged flowers and crushed petals followed his wake. His eyes darted from place to place, looking for any distinct landmarks or objects that could help him recognize where he was going. So far? Nothing. It was oddly peaceful, but he didn't stop moving. It could've just been his jittery nerves after the last few encounters, but he felt as if any place that seemed quiet and peaceful was actually just a death trap in disguise. .... Why did the wind stop? Rainbow froze, before turning to look behind him. No.. there was nothing there. He turned back to look infront of him, coming face to face with none other than... himself? He blinked, his eyes attempting to make eye contact with the figure who wore his skin, but the figure didn't have eyes.
" ... " The sun suddenly glared down on them, causing him to shut his eyes tightly, a grave mistake. Once the light lessened, he opened his eyes. The sky had gone black, the poppies had wilted, and the figure was only an inch away from him. " ACK- WHAT THE HELL?! " He yelped, taking a step back and reaching for his weapon, only to realize it wasn't there. Shit, he was finished. He took several steps back, the figure didn't follow him. He stared harder, not understanding what was going on. What the actual hell was this place, why had everything gone dark, and what was this mockery of flesh, trying to do? He blinked, and in that microsecond of darkness he heard what sounded like granite against basalt, and thats when he saw it had moved closer. He paled, oh god, were these the monsters from those stupid horror movies Sabre would scream his lungs out for?! It was real. It was real and it was staring at him with a blank face. He took several steps back, the black sky thankfully making it easier for him to keep his eyes open. Suddenly the sky became a violent blue, and the poppies started rapidly blooming, making him yelped and close his eyes, he heard the terrifying sound of stone moving again and knew it was after him. The moment the noise got closer to him he swung blindly, his fist meeting with the things jaw and throwing it off course. It let out an unholy screech of agony, the sound was like knives being stuck in his ear drums and then taken back out haphazardly.
