come hell or high water

Summary:

Ring! Ring!

Impulse smacked his alarm, knocking it off the bed. It was the same time he always got up, but he was still constantly tired.

Impulse had been living in Hell for exaxtly 49,456 years, 4 months, 17 days and 8 hours.

As cool as it sounds to live in Hell for such a long time, after a while it gets kind of boring. Everything is the same for Impulse, and it has been for a long time.

Chapter Text

Ring! Ring!

Impulse smacked his alarm, knocking it off the bed. It was the same time he always got up, but he was still constantly tired.

Impulse had been living in Hell for exaxtly 49,456 years, 4 months, 17 days and 8 hours. And counting.

As cool as it sounds to live in Hell of all places, after a while it gets kind of boring. Everything is the same for Impulse, and it has been for a long time.

Impulse rolled himself out of bed, trying to ignore the throbbing pain in his head. He sat up and looked at himself in the mirror. He hated how the dark circles under his eyes stuck out so much, and how his sunken in features were so obvious. It made him look uncanny, not badly, just slightly off.

Life isn't very fun when everything is the same as the day before, and the day before that, and so on so forth. Impulse had been living like this for so long, he kind of didn't know anything better. Each morning felt like a timeloop. Get up, go to work, come home, sleep.

With a sigh, he pushed himself up and wandered over to the bathroom. His small, 1 bedroom apartment was way too cramped for him, but he could afford nothing else with the little money he had. The sink was falling apart. The cold water tap had come fully off. The bathroom mirror was cracked. The wallpaper was peeling. The worst part; he couldn't even afford someone to fix it.

He glanced out of the window. He didn't know why he expected it to look any different. The sky was a luminous red, framed by silent silhouettes of tall buildings. Contrary to popular belief, there wasn't as much fire and torture as you'd expect. Impulse lives in the area for demons who were born in hell. So less torture, but it still felt like torture to him.

With a loud sigh, Impulse left the window.

Maybe one day, he prayed, there will be a break in the chain.
