Chapter Text
A girl lying in bed.
Bzzzt.. Bzzzzzzzzzt…
She opens her eyes.
???: The light flickers on in my bedroom.
What the…?
Why are my lights on at this hour? I didn’t turn them on. As far as I know, you can’t set them on a timer, right?
Stupid electricity…
She gets out of bed and looks outside. It’s night.
???: It is still dark. It must be morning.
I guess I will go eat breakfast…
My phone says it’s 4:30 AM.
I’m never usually up this early… but it won’t do me any harm. I could go on a walk.
The girl brushes her teeth, her hair, and gets dressed.
She goes to her kitchen.
???: It’ll be good to stretch my legs a little. An early morning walk won’t kill me.
In her kitchen, she pulls up a bowl and a box of cereal. ‘Milk flakes’.
???: My favourite…
As she reaches towards her fridge, she finds a picture stuck on it with a magnet.
The picture has three girls on. All have pale skin and black hair, but different eye colours.
???: Gosh… I miss them.
Back in high school, we were inseparable. The best trio of all time. Everyone knew those two, and I was their best friend. The quiet life was nice, if not a little… quiet.
They helped me settle in when we moved here in high school.
They even supported me when I got my first boyfriend, even if he was an asshole.
The best trio ever. The only friends I could ever ask for. Now look at us.
At least I still have her…
She takes the milk out her fridge and pours the milk into her bowl.
???: Disgusting bowl of garbage. I’d be better off eating nothing. But I don’t want to wither away, so I guess I’m eating it.
…
My apartment looks awful. I haven’t had enough motivation to clean it in ages.
That’s why we only ever meet at her apartment.
We really need to move in together…
…
Alright. I’m finally done eating this… slop. I guess I can go for a walk now.
My phone buzzes. One new message.
She checks her phone.
???: ‘Hey babe. Miss you so much. Call me soon, kay?’
Is that a drunk text…?
Leave me alone.
She puts her phone back in her pocket.
???: I’ll stop delaying it now. I need to get some exercise in eventually. It’s been weeks.
The streets will be quiet too, which I like.
I used to be so opposed to being invisible. Now I don’t even notice.
Still, I try to dress nicely. What if, by chance, someone does notice me?
If they recognise me from school?
I’m counting on that small possibility. Otherwise I might just rot in my room all year.
She goes outside.
???: The air is cold and crisp as it hits my face. I’ve missed this, as much as I can hate it.
There’s a slight breeze.
My feet meet the path, already worn from walking down the endless flights of stairs I had to use to get here, and I begin to walk.
I have my phone in a bag on my shoulder, listening to some music through my headphones.
I’d like to buy wireless ones, but I can’t just yet. They’re too expensive for now.
She stops at a path near an abandoned building. It’s lit by one streetlight
???: This is where it happened.
The moment my life went wrong, where she… she died.
For anyone walking past, it just looks like a normal streetlight…
Fuck, I don’t wanna be here. Why did I walk this way? I didn’t even mean to.
And over there is the local ‘haunted’ house.
Bullshit, it’s haunted. I don’t believe in ghosts or any of that paranormal shit.
Wow, I had never noticed just how bad it looks…
It’s a bungalow, so it’s bound to look a little… messy. Every bungalow you find is over a hundred years old.
The paint’s peeling, and there’s a weird smell.
Something… metallic.
What… is that?
Wait, is that… blood?
…
BANG!
