Rage Bait Experiment

Summary:

Wonyoung was bored so she decided to mess with Yujin, who was currently focused on her Lego building task.

Yujin has patience like a saint... or maybe she just loves Wonyoung so much.

Notes:

Just a short, cutesy story because it's been a while.

Chapter Text

Wonyoung had been lying upside down on the sofa for a solid ten minutes, her long hair spilling toward the floor, one leg hooked lazily over the armrest. Her phone hovered inches from her face as she scrolled through her feed with half-lidded boredom.

Across the living room, Yujin sat cross-legged on the floor, entirely consumed by a massive Lego set, an intricate architectural build Wonyoung had gifted her for Christmas. The box had promised 18+ Advanced Builder, and Yujin had taken that as a personal challenge.

The room was quiet except for the faint clinking of plastic bricks and the occasional satisfied hum from Yujin.

Wonyoung’s thumb paused mid-scroll.

A video popped up: “Rage baiting my golden retriever girlfriend to see if she’ll finally snap.”

Wonyoung’s eyes lit up.

The girl in the video kept saying mildly annoying things, criticizing how her girlfriend cut strawberries, asking if she was “sure” she knew how to breathe properly, insisting the sky looked “kind of green today.” The comments were full of laughter and admiration for the patient partner who never once lost her cool.

Wonyoung slowly turned her head toward Yujin.

Yujin was currently squinting at a tiny gray brick like it held the secrets of the universe.

A slow smile spread across Wonyoung’s face.

Oh.

This was going to be fun.

She rolled onto her stomach and scooted closer, resting her chin on her hands.

“Yujinnie.”

“Mm?” Yujin didn’t look up.

“Are you sure that goes there?”

Silence. Then, gently, “Yes, Baby. It’s step 42.”

Wonyoung leaned closer, examining the instruction manual with dramatic scrutiny. “It kind of looks wrong.”

Yujin smiled faintly. “It’s not wrong.”

“It might be wrong.”

“It’s not.”

Wonyoung reached over and rotated the manual ninety degrees.

Yujin blinked. Then calmly rotated it back.

Wonyoung narrowed her eyes.

Phase two.

She stood up, walked to the kitchen, grabbed a bag of chips, and came back. She sat beside Yujin and opened the bag as loudly as humanly possible.

CRRRRRRUNCH.

Yujin didn’t flinch.

Wonyoung chewed dramatically. “Do you want one?”

“No thank you.”

“You don’t sound sure.”

“I’m sure.”

“You look like you want one.”

Yujin finally glanced at her, eyes soft and amused. “Do I?”

“Yes. You look chip-deprived.”

“I’m okay.”

Wonyoung squinted suspiciously at her.

How was she this unshakeable?

She leaned over and gently nudged one of the carefully sorted Lego piles.

Not enough to ruin it.

Just enough.

Yujin froze mid-motion.

There it was.

The twitch.

Wonyoung held her breath.

Yujin carefully reorganized the pieces.

Then she looked at Wonyoung and smiled.

“You’re bored.”

Wonyoung gasped. “I am not!”

“You are.”

“I’m deeply entertained.”

“By sabotaging me?”

“I would never.”

Yujin reached out and lightly poked her cheek. “You’re doing that thing.”

“What thing?”

“The ‘I want attention but I don’t want to ask for it’ thing.”

Wonyoung immediately scoffed. “I do not.”

“You do.”

She crossed her arms. “You’re imagining things.”

Yujin hummed thoughtfully and went back to building.

Unbelievable.

Wonyoung escalated.

She laid flat on the floor directly in front of the Lego set.

“Baby…”

“Yes?”

“If I replaced all your gray bricks with slightly different gray bricks, would you even notice?”

“Yes.”

“How?”

“Because I know my grays.”

Wonyoung stared at her in disbelief. “That sounded nerdy.”

“It was.”

“And you’re okay with that?”

“Yes.”

Wonyoung frowned.

She grabbed the instruction booklet again. “What if this entire thing collapses at the end because you missed one piece?”

“It won’t.”

“But what if it does?”

“Then I’ll rebuild it.”

“That sounds exhausting.”

“It’s fine.”

Wonyoung leaned closer, studying her girlfriend’s face carefully. Not even a hint of irritation. Just calm focus and quiet joy.

This was unfair.

She gently plucked a tiny piece from the edge of the structure.

Yujin looked down.

Looked at the missing piece.

Looked at Wonyoung.

Instead of scolding her, she just held out her hand.

Wonyoung blinked. “What?”

“Piece, please.”

“…You’re not mad?”

“Why would I be?”

“Because I stole it.”

Yujin tilted her head. “You bought the set.”

“That’s not the point.”

Yujin’s lips curved. “You can steal as many pieces as you want.”

Wonyoung hesitated… then slowly placed it back in Yujin’s palm.

Yujin gently brushed her fingers against Wonyoung’s knuckles before fitting the piece back into place.

That tiny, subtle touch made Wonyoung’s stomach flutter.

She tried again.

“You know,” she said casually, “I heard that people who like Legos are emotionally repressed.”

Yujin gasped softly. “Wow.”

“I’m just saying.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes.”

Yujin leaned back slightly, studying her. “Do emotionally repressed people buy their girlfriends massive Lego sets because they remembered she mentioned it once in March?”

Wonyoung’s ears turned red. “That’s irrelevant.”

“Is it?”

Wonyoung scrambled for her next move. “Also… your hair looks slightly uneven today.”

Yujin blinked, instinctively reaching up. “It does?”

“Yeah. On the left.”

Yujin checked her phone camera.

Wonyoung burst into giggles.

Yujin slowly turned to her.

“You’re evil.”

Wonyoung grinned. “Finally. A reaction.”

Instead of snapping, Yujin simply leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to Wonyoung’s lips.

“There,” she said softly. “Did that fix it?”

Wonyoung froze.

Her entire rage-bait campaign faltered.

“You’re supposed to be annoyed,” she muttered.

“I am not capable of being annoyed at you.”

“That’s unrealistic.”

“Probably.”

Wonyoung slumped dramatically onto her lap. “You’re ruining the trend.”

Yujin laughed quietly, wrapping one arm around her waist while still reaching for Lego pieces with the other.

“Why are you trying to make me mad anyway?”

Wonyoung buried her face into Yujin’s hoodie. “It’s a social experiment.”

“Ah.”

“Everyone online is testing their partners.”

“And what are the results?”

Wonyoung peeked up at her.

“You’re impossible.”

Yujin smiled warmly. “Or I just love you.”

That shut her up completely.

For a moment, Wonyoung just stared at her, at the soft concentration in her eyes, the tiny crease between her brows when she focused, the way she automatically adjusted her posture so Wonyoung wouldn’t slide off her lap.

Her teasing energy melted.

“…Okay, fine,” she mumbled. “Maybe I just wanted attention.”

Yujin immediately set the Lego piece down.

“You could’ve just said that.”

“That’s less dramatic.”

Yujin chuckled and pulled her closer. “You don’t need tricks.”

Wonyoung pouted slightly. “But it was kind of fun.”

“It was,” Yujin admitted. “You’re very creative with your chaos.”

“That’s a compliment.”

“It is.”

Wonyoung glanced at the nearly finished Lego structure. “You’re really not mad?”

Yujin shook her head. “You were smiling the whole time.”

“That doesn’t mean I wasn’t serious.”

“It does.”

Wonyoung huffed but didn’t argue.

After a few seconds of comfortable silence, she gently picked up a Lego piece.

“…Can I help?”

Yujin’s smile softened even more. “Yeah. Step 43.”

Wonyoung leaned closer, carefully following the instructions.

After placing the piece correctly, she looked up expectantly.

“See?” she said proudly.

Yujin kissed her temple. “Good job, Wony.”

And just like that, the “rage bait” trend was officially a failure.

But Wonyoung decided she liked this outcome better anyway.
