Summary:

Decker's perspective of the prologue

He has nothing going for him. He's lonely; scared. Until his life turns to chaos because Raycast thought he would be good looking after a child

Notes:

this was just sitting in my notes app. Dex needs more fics

Work Text:

He doesn't drink anymore. He used to, back when she was still alive, back when his life still had hope. Now, he refuses to touch alcohol.

Ironic for a bar owner.

Decker knows that if he drinks now then he'll go through the entire supply for fixers hope. He knows he'll fall deep into a depression pit with no hope of an escape (besides death). He doesn't want that. He has the resources to continue their movement after her death, he has to honour it otherwise what's the point in living.

He keeps a picture of her on the wall in his bar. He's still clinging to the good memories. He still talks and lives near Tony. Tony's good. Tony's the only one he hasn't really shut out. He justifies it to himself as an easy escape route. Tony's base is always good to hide in with good gear and resources. but he knows the only reason he could never shut Tony out is because he would just show up at Decker's place just to shout at him for being stupid.

Fixers hope develops into a meeting spot for hackavists. He's too scared of letting even more people be caught because of him. He introduces rules that are meant to protect everyone and they do but they're there to protect him.

Keep Illegal activity to an absolute minimum

plans must be kept on the down low

He's not as surprised as he should be when Raycast contacts him for help. He agrees. Who wouldn't? Raycast is a hero to him and his people. So when he is informed that Raycast expects him to protect a child he gets scared but he does it. He doesn't want another person to die because of him.

Raycast tells him to look out for a blue haired older teenage girl called Dex.

He doesn't expect her to look like Silk

'fuck' he panics. Dex looks so much like Silk that it's uncanny. That's when he decides will help this child no matter what. She's scared because she's being chased by the complex.

'she can't be more than 20' he thinks ' how the fuck did a 20 that's probably never had a c-space presence even piss of the fucking complex?'

He notices someone sneaking glances at Dex and he can tell it's malicious intent and that he needs to get her out of there. He takes her to the back and tries to calm her down but he can't shake his Cold closed off demeanour. She's still nervous but she seems to trust him.

They raid his joint. He sends her first. Stays back to try and hold off the complex while she gets to Tony's. Once he realises she's far enough away he makes a run for it as well.

He nearly died. They contact Raycast. Raycast tells them that Dex is Kether's avatar. He doesn't believe it. He doesn't want to believe. He doesn't want to believe that this child is going to be the one to save them all.

Dex doesn't have a jack. She still connects to C-space though. He hates it but he begins to believe she might be Kether's avatar. They show her the ropes of hacking in c-space and she might be a natural.
