Alice handed her and Jasper's present to Bella next. It was a small box that had a pretty ribbon that was shaped in a bow on the top. Vivian watched in slow motion as Bella sliced her finger on the ribbon. “Ouch, paper cut.”
Vivian saw a drop of blood hit the carpet and before thinking she slammed into Jasper. One hand covering both his nose and mouth and the other pinned him to the wall.
Sending every once of her calming emotion to him. He was very still under her. His black eyes glued to hers. “It’s okay Jas. I got you. I’m right here.”
Without looking away from Jasper she said “Apologies Bella, Jasper and I need to leave for a little bit. Alice, can you make sure everything is cleaned up before we get back. And Carlisle can you check Bella’s finger? That was a lot of blood for a paper cut.”
Not letting go of Jasper Vivian managed to walk them out of the house. She could feel Emmett and Rosalie behind her just in case she needed help. As soon as they were at the tree line of the woods they held hands and ran to their spot.
It was a cold night and Vivian could feel the wet dew of the plants against her bare legs. Jasper gripped her hand tightly as they ran. She could feel the bloodlust slowly leaving him the further they got away from the house.
Finally coming to the cliff side they both sat at the edge of it. Their legs dangling over the cliff. The smell of the ocean and sea salt were in the air and for the first time since they left the house Vivian took in a much needed deep breath.
She still held Jasper's hand. Sending out her calming emotions. She could feel that he felt guilty and ashamed. He would never intentionally hurt Bella but with it still being human blood it would be an accident. Vivian was just glad that she was there and was able to act quickly.
After a few moments Jasper spoke “Thank you Vi.”
Without missing a beat Vivian replied “You’re welcome Jas. You know I’ll always help you when I can. You are my family.”
Jasper smiled at her but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Jasper, it's not your fault. Vampires are made to drink human blood. It would only make sense that you would act that way when you get a whiff of it.”
“I-I know that but it’s always so hard. Before I found Alice and you guys I was a killing machine. I did Maria’s dirty work and worshiped the ground she walked on. Every human I drank from I could feel their fear, the pain. Now Carlisle shows me a different way of life and I’m failing at it.” Jasper growled out.
Vivian squeezed his hand tighter. “Jas you are not failing at it. Your instinct is to drink human blood. Animal blood is not the same and it’s not going to fulfill you the way human blood would. The others have been drinking animal blood a lot longer than you have and none of them have gone through as much trauma as you have either. You are not a failure Japser. You are strong and resilient.”
Jasper's shoulders seemed to relax the more she talked and eventually he said “Thank you for believing in me. When I first joined the coven I was skeptical about all of you. Besides Alice you were the first person to make me feel comfortable. You didn’t judge me or make me feel bad for the things I did. Hell, the first time I met you, you were already using your gift to calm me down and then you even made it to where I was laughing with you. You truly are something special Vivian and we are all lucky to have you.”
Vivian knew she was blushing and Jasper could probably see it on her cheeks but she didn’t care. She knew her family loved her and that she was different then the rest of their kind but she didn’t like to draw attention around it.
She didn’t flaunt her gifts or try to act better than all of them. She knew some of the things she could do like sleeping or eating human food, the others wished they were capable of it but they didn’t openly sneer at her or anything.
She would do anything for her family. Even if she had to take down an army she would. She felt Jasper's emotions shift and looked at him when he stood up.
He held a hand out to her to help her up. Smiling, she took it. “You feel good enough now to go back to the house?” Vivian asked.
She could see Jasper tense but he nodded “Yes, I need to apologize to Edward and Bella. What could have happened would have been horrific.”
Vivian put a hand on Jasper's arm making him look at her “Nothing happened Jasper. We knew something like this could happen when Edward decided to bring Bella around. If we are being honest he should have turned her already but that’s besides the point.”
Jasper nodded his head but didn’t say anything else as they walked back home.
