Dear Diary,
My name is Kai Rosehearts and I think this is stupid. I don't see the point in writing my feelings down. No one's gonna read it but me. And I look back and see how depressive my life is. Not entirely enjoyable I fear.
My life isn't that great. Don't get me wrong there is plenty to be thankful for. I do love my parents and they tried to give me the best support and love as they could. But when your dad (Floyd) is in jail for eight years of your life it is a bit difficult to have any kind of support from him. No one tells you what life is like for the family of prisoners locked away in jail. They just worry about the person behind the rusty bars. Me and my father (riddle) didn't have it much better. After two years we moved out of the comfort of the house to a shitty, broken down apartment to save money due to heavy legal fees that were expensive and saving for dads future. Then after another two years we moved in with my uncle, jade and uncle trey for the last four years. When dad finally came back home during my first year of NRC during winter break. Very exciting I know, and a while has passed since then. I'm about to start my second year and as a housewarden of Heartslybuly-- which why I'm in charge is a mystery- and oh my sevens im so not ready. I got taller and got more muscular over the summer so very few people will recognize me immediately I assume. But I'm done with writing in this stupid book.

|Kai Roseheart POV|
I walked out of the ceremony room with Beryl. He is Uncle Trey and Uncle Jade's eldest son also he is my vice house warden this year. We walk down the aisle. I don't care much for the opening ceremony. I saw it as overhyped and too formal for my taste.
I look at Beryl. “You take the newbies to the dorm and teach them the ropes and what not. I’m gonna lurk about. Ask Percy to help you if need be.” I said to him, Beryl gives me a nod as he walks off. Percy Diamond was Caters only son.
I looked around for anyone I knew. I wasn’t in the mood to meet and talk to new people.
“KAI” I spun to look at who yelled unnecessarily loud for me. I saw it was Felix as he stood, Felix Vanrouge and Otto Bucchi. I smile at them because they are my closest friends.
I walk over. “Hey guys.”
Otto punched my shoulder jokingly. “Well I’ll be damned look who grew up. You ain’t nearly as short as the rest of us anymore. Save some of the muscle for the rest of us.”
Felix nodded, leaning towards atto . “Yeah what gives. Tired of being overlooked. Housewarden, muscles, and height. Bet we can’t even see your ribs anymore under there. New year, new you became true for you big guy.”
I chuckle. “Yeah I guess it’s a new start. I’m hoping at least. Maybe the improvements will get me laid more.”
Otto chackled. “God still a play boy though. Wonder who’ll stop you.”

|Scout schoenheit POV|
I stand next to Rain, my older brother. He was a third year but it was his second year as a housewarden. It was my first year but I was already vice housewarden. I scan the room and I see three exits that are for normal use and 5 exits for emergency situations. While I was looking around I noticed that Rain was talking to Lev Kingscholar. Probably flirting to some degree so I’ll keep tuning him out for my sanity. I scan the room and my eyes stop at the entrance, I see him.
-Black shaggy hair, undercut, and a mullet. Would be ugly on some people but it frames his head well and works for him.
- His clothes are fitted right. Too tight in some places and baggy in most places. Probably no- definitely hand me downs from a parent that at his age was taller and had a broader build than the boy currently wearing it.
- The way he stood was interesting. It seemed he was holding himself to show dominance but also hunched to hide himself. It also seemed by the way he leaned from foot to foot he seems to be subconsciously in a state of fight or flight always.
- he also had sharp features but softened at where the edges should be jagged.
- His skin was tan with scattered freckles.
- His eyes were silver.
Overall he was…. Intriguing.
“Hey rain the boy with the hyena beast man. What’s his name.” I asked my brother.
I watched and waited for a few moments to see Rain's reaction. At first it seemed like he didn’t know if he’d ever seen him before. Then it was pure shock. Followed by a flash hardly even noticeable, just a flash in his eyes, of interest. It was gone as fast as it showed up.
“That’s Kai Roseheart, a sophomore. Housewarden of heartslybul, he’s smart and one of the most powerful mages if not the most. He’s got family- a powerful family at that. In and out of school. Careful with him. He’s a bit of a player and has alternative motives than what he says.” Rain repeats almost disgustedly. I nod slowly, still staring at this ‘Kai’.
Lev laughs. “You downplay him. He’s a handsome boy. Always has been but it seems he’s gotten more handsome this year. Plus he’s determined he’s got things to prove. To whom I don’t know. Also kind if you're on his good side. Saw him beat a kid up cause they looked at Otto and Felix wrong. I’d be more worried about his cousin though. Beryl he’s dangerous and unpredictable. He’s also very protective of Kai. Though he’s not nearly as powerful as Kai.”
“Thanks I guess.” I take note of what they say, might need it for later.
An anti-hero. Tortured hero if you will. huh I guess I’m writing a story of people’s lives again. Sigh. Not that important, he's probably just some random kid who I’ll never end up talking to.
I look back at him. This time he meets my eye. He stops and face turns to surprise. He smiles softly. For a moment I see past the iron walls that are his eyes and see a boy who just wants peace who’s been hurt many times. I almost get to the depths of his soul before I realize while I’m analyzing his soul he’s analyzing mine. And we can’t have that now can we. I blink and smile. I look away. He doesn't get to see the depths of my soul. At least not yet.
“I don’t think he’s that bad.” I say to Rain.
Rain scoffs. “Just don’t get wrapped up in his web, you don’t know him .”
“That’s a bit defensive, don't you think Rain.” A voice spoke from behind me. I looked behind me. There Kai stood. I didn’t think he’d walk over let alone talk to all of us.
Rain rolled his eyes and curled his nose . “Whatever I say to my brother is none of your business.”
Kai smirks, showing his sharp teeth. “Your brother. Hm. I didn’t know you had one of those.” He looks down at me. His cocky mood and sadistic smirk drop. Showing a clam, quiet expression when he looked at me. “What’s your name?”
I took a breath in sharper than I meant. “Scout.”
He nods before looking back at rain and Lev. More nurtural than he was before. Catching the other two off guard despite them trying to hide their shock. “There’s a party later at monstros. Y'all are welcome to come. Even Scout. We got hold of some good stuff. Drugs, alcohol and cigs. Whatever suits your fancy.”
Rain smirks. “Maybe we’ll be there if you truly have what you say.”
