Chapter 1: Morning!

Chapter Text

[ 🎹 ]

Saki was stuck in prison. Well, not actually, but it sure felt like it. Assigned caretakers, personal guards, and under supervision 24-7. And all because of her stupid illness.

It was silly, in her opinion. She could do anything anyone else could! She just overexerts herself easily and gets a little fever. That’s all! Nothing to fuss over.

Her parents didn’t see it that way.

Saki sat up in her bed, messy blonde curls fell around her shoulders. She wrapped the yellow blanket around herself. It was a chilly day and she didn’t need her family and servants worrying about her anymore than they usually did.

She reached for the golden bell beside her luxurious bed gave it a little shake. I think that’s enough for the servants to know I’m awake. Thank the gods for telepathy magic!she thought with a smile.

Saki leaned back, her head hitting the silk pillow with a thump. She reached out with her left hand, blocking the sun’s rays that streamed in from her skylight. She started to pick at the skin beside her fingernails. It was a bad habit, of course she knew that.

Saki remembered all the times her mother chastised her, saying that “She’d ruin her dainty fingers if she kept that up.” And “No prince wants to put a ring on rough fingers.” Saki had rolled her eyes at that. She didn’t even want to get married to some prince far away from her home.

She was itching to go to the Whitepine forest today. I could probably sneak out at night again if I’m lucky… Saki began to think, she’d need to gather information on the schedule today to figure out the best route to get out, and-

Her scheming was cut short unfortunately, with three sharp knocks on the door. “Come in!“ She replied, getting out of bed and putting on her fluffy slippers.

The grand, ivory doors parted, revealing a navy haired girl clad in white, pulling a decorated tray cart into the room, filled with breakfast dishes.

“Good morning, princess. Shall I prepare the table?”

“Morning, Ichika! And yes, I’m starving!”

The blonde princess responded brightly, waving her right hand at the table, framed by one of the window’s breezy curtains.

The maid nodded, pushing the squeaky cart beside the table, sweeping the cloth to clear the wrinkles. Saki watched in silence as Ichika worked, admiring how efficient and elegant she looked while doing such a menial task.

As she gazed at the maid, she noticed how clean her navy blue hair was, with not a lock tangled, and the white headband that held her hair in place, adorned with a small bow with the same color. And those pale blue eyes that looked like they contained the sky clearing after rain.

How could such a beautiful girl be working as a cleaner? Saki wondered. She could easily pass as a noble with the right attire.

“Are you alright, princess? Your face is as red as the berries that grow in the gardens!”

Saki was startled out of her daze as Ichika’s concerned words broke the silence.

“Yeah yeah! I’m fine. I should go wash up, right?”

She gave the maid two thumb ups and a suspicious smile, then hurried to the other side of the room, where the bathroom was located. Staggering a bit as her slipper kicked up a rug.
