Work Text:

The Minuteman War Golem was the standard infantry unit of the United Zones of America during Second American Revolution (also known by the Brittainians as the Interdimensional Invasion).

Standing at about six and a half feet tall, the Minuteman Golems were humanoid moving statues animated by the dismembered flesh of their pilots contained within. This was made possible due to the mass production of Giza Glass, a paranormal type of fulgurite that could cut human flesh without killing or severing nerve connection. They were generally made of steel, but could be made in ones backyard from almost any material, leading to variation.

A Minuteman looked like a normal statue on the outside and could pose for one in the correct circumstances. Additionally they showed no life signs and could not be detected via thermal imaging. This allowed them to pull off ambushes on Knightmares or hide in the shadows and fight guerilla campaigns.

Upon completion of his or her training, the pilot would be shredded using Giza Glass and be distributed on the inside of of the Minuteman, which would be sealed. From then on the pilot and the Minuteman would be one. The UZA managed to aquire pilots via a mix of conscription and propaganda. The Minuteman program was sold as a way to achieve immortality, and that wasn't even a lie (totally). Minuteman units don't age. After all, old soldiers never die.

Dispite being statues, they could walk as fast as a mortal human could run and were significantly stronger than a mortal human. Due to their condition they couldn't feel pain and could only be defeated via complete destruction. However, they could still feel fear and the transformation into a Minuteman often left the pilot mentally disturbed and unwell.

Minuteman Golems wielded Death-Ray Muskets (DRMs) powered by Giza Glass. These directed energy weapons annihilated flesh and lighter armour, but took a long time to reload and had trouble with shielding and heavier armor. Minuteman units often ditched their DRMs for looted Brittainian weapons when cut off from supply lines.

They wielded Giza Glass bayonets and swords as secondary weapons. These ultra sharp, ultra durable blades could cut through even the toughest materials like butter, and could deflect energy weapons. However, it was not a clean deflection. Energy weapons blocked by an Giza Glass blade would be amplified and redirected unpredictably.

Victims of the Giza Glass blades would not die, no matter how severe the injury. However, the injury would not heal, and the victims would mutate into abominations if not given vinegar (this would stave off the mutation, but it would become less effective over time). Unfortunately for them, the Brittainians discovered this unfortunately late into the war, leading to a lot of victims of the swords being put down or languishing in hospitals.

Minuteman Golems generally had worse range, survivability, and firepower than the Knightmare Frames, used by the Brittainians, but there was one aspect in which they were indubitably superior: Logistics.

A Minuteman needed no food, nor water nor shelter, nor rest (though giving Minuteman golems rest was recommended to improve the mental health of the units). Their blades only needed basic sharpening that could be done with a rock. The only part of them that was logistically challenging was their DRMs, which could be recharged with any source of energy or slowly recharged by cranking.

Furthermore Minuteman Golems also were immune to radiation and chemical toxins, a major advantage in battlefields were nuclear or chemical weapons had been used.

While the more heavily armoured Guardian golems were better suited to face Knightmares one on one, if push came to shove, Minuteman Golems could muster a bayonet charge when faced with Knightmares. However, their main role was to take on the human soldiers of Brittainia, not the Knightmares.
