Hypatia stumbled into her room, slamming the door shut behind her. She clutched at her head as she heard delirious laughter coming from around her. She collapsed onto her bed and put her headphones on then turned the music up to the highest volume. She could still hear a faint laughter coming from random points in her room. She grabbed a book and tried to distract her mind from the horror she was hearing. She felt eyes on her and saw the room flickering. She smelled smoke and blood and and as she looked around, she saw flickering traces of blood around the room. She ran out of her room to the kitchen, even as the sounds followed her. She ran into the bathroom and grabbed her medication to stop episodes, taking it quickly. She hurried back to her room and hid under her blanket. A little while later, the voices started quieting as the medicine took effect. She stopped seeing and smelling blood and the smell of smoke dissipated. She soon after passed out from exhaustion and slept for the rest of the night.
The next morning, Hypatia stumbled out of her room, mentally exhausted, but knowing she couldn't skip off work today. She got dressed and grabbed her purse before heading out to her car. After around 10 minutes, she arrived, parked, and walked in. She nodded back to some of her coworkers yelling hello to her. She walked up to behind the counter, overhearing an argument between her coworker and a customer arguing about the coffee being too hot and the toast being hurt. She discreetly rolled her eyes but stayed silent, not hopping to her coworker's defense. She slid under the counter, continuing towards the back. She grabbed her apron and put down her purse. She was walking back towards the front when her best friend, Despoina, grabbed her by the arm and steered her into a side room used for extra storage.
"What happened last night?! You look like you do after an episode but that's not possible since you took your medicine to stop those yesterday at lunch time." Hypatia sighed. "I did have an episode since the medicine only works sometimes, but I did take the medication to stop them while they're happening, and luckily, that worked." Despoina quickly went to hug her then stopped and took a step back, remembering Hypatia's displeasure at physical touch after an episode.
Hypatia smiled at her remembering that she didn't want to be touched and then gestured for Despoina to follow her as she left the room to get started on work. The day passed quickly and afterwards, they left the building to go take a walk in the park. However; Hypatia felt like she had forgotten something to do something. Little did she know, she had forgotten to take her medicine.
As she walked around, she suddenly smelled blood and saw crimson coating her friend's face. She realized what was happening. Oh no.
