Preview (recap)

This is part B of the continued War Has Come arc alt universe. Slade died in the last chapter because the curse of his last lover was broken; being let to die by his forced lover, and Richard became the guardian of an underworld ruled by the Great fowl, no longer remaining mortal bound. A sort of guide to the lost because of his pact with his Nyggt Hauk heritage. Vonn, the son of Dick and Slade, has found himself the role of a traveling mercenary for hire, giving up his kinship to Rosalie in Defencia. He's decided to move back towards the city of the Great Bat where Tim is on the throne and has not yet turned mad by the Great Bat's curse. Bruce passed on the curse upon his death and Jason is now with Kor'anna and his daughter, little Ann in the country living a simple life away from the crown. He still knows how to fight if he's ever needed, but he has a child now and a new purpose since losing his father and brother to the warring lord that raped the first in line of Wayne's line and took their city fir a joy ride. His son, Grandl, is currently locked up for crimes of treason and Selene is going to make matters worse to bring the fowl of her coven more "offerings."

The coronation of Tim was delayed and Damian is only a child now, growing into his role as the acting prince should anything happen to Tim or his dearest family. Alf is still alive as is Stefania who is now in the royal guard as a protégé to Oliver and a dear company to Royland Hudd. She is also psychically linked with the seer in her city from the underground. The witch that predicted the rise and fall of another leader, and whom her father Bruce spared for a number of years due to her impressive abilities and trust.

Since of course the borders were restored and the anarchists put away, exiled or hung, the rest is just waiting on Tim to stop fighting over taking the crown. Yet in most stories, don't the next in line need to be cautious ay their own coronation ceremonies?

Vonn heads along and to his shock, finds that his mother or father how you see it, was not wrong and be will learn of his other family in the city. Rosalie of course still detests that her father died by the hands of Richard, and to her, Vonn may be in exile for this reason alone. Also, the death of her brother was due to Tim. Wallace has stayed in the royal guard as its captain and repaired his relationship with the king's new replacement yet what happens when Richard is forced to see them again and make just clear that Vonn…is to be in competition for that throne? Find out!

Chapter 1: Hanging on in the Cold

/

"There was an ugly riot in the city, I erd' of it! Said the very state is in jeopardy. There's to be a new king and nobody wants im."

The gossip inside the country inn of Sterlile ( Sterling) was hushed most of that hour. In the back, the lump of furs sat and pulled his ale close up to his lips, slowing sipping as if the brew were too hot in this winter tundra of a checkpoint.

"The lord even said the official heir, he be too young to become a king. That, and none of the other sons ever existed to take to their daddy's mettle. In fact, the curse that took over, passed onto the son in charge right this hour. He said, that and then he turned and said the old bat's plight was a bleeding fairie- tale!"

The table all belt out whooping at the talk. The fur coated individual behind them, listened on. That, sounded like he knew. Someone from long ago that his mother had smiled on about. That Vonn, the son of King Wirlon and Queen consort, Richard Wayne…how indeed was there much to consider about the story.

"I mean, the other children in the king's castle won't even consider it. Says that there is a curse, so maybe it is. I dunno. Aye?"

The man spouting gossip so readily turned to the stranger and his grog from behind them. "Having a good deal of eavesdropping? What are you, some traveling bear catcher? No such tamers past the city. Interesting in some intel?"

"I am." Vonn lowered his gaze to the table as his ale was placed there. "The curse sounds very real. A warning. I know of similar, events."

"What is your profession?" The second there at the lowly gossip 'sake table cocked an ear. "You hold up like the winds outside make up feel lively. I've seen giants before, but not actually bred like sees you, so come on. What is yer want fir all of what we got to tell?"

"Information, about a prince. One not set yet to rule. And if you could spare a moment, a key. To the underworld."

/

The inn went dead as a graveyard. The bones did rattle as one barmaid hid fir her living supper behind the next of her sisters. "Is, is he joking?" A third at the table looked rattled as well, his bones making the most sounds loudest for a demi god and giant's child to hear.

Slade was partly immortal by his pact, yet died and was relieved pf it by the true cult of the Nyggt Hauk, sad savior of the Great Fowl community that dweller in dark places. A key or a door could be opened to find the guide, yet the man as he was, had just reached adult hood earlier than his sister. She was not a true giant and would hold the genes of her mortal mother.

Grandl was the same, yet his mother was not human as well. Maybe even so, a saint that swore vengeance to her late rivals. Wayne was the one that bad cast her out when she'd rejected his courtship, or so the story went. Wirlon at them and there had overtaken the city if Wayne's and had stolen his children. He'd cursed the eldest to bare a child and the seventeen-year-old was forced to become the bride to the warlord of Defencia. After fighting his reign, the boy had gone along and sacrificed himself to the warlord, stating he'd go to the country of the evil man and bare his child there. In time, his brothers would come for him, he'd promised. Yet….

That never came to be. The king had become possessive and was too cruel. He locked up and tried to subjugation his soon to be queen into her role as a true woman. She was forever shaped into the female kind, when before the boy Richard cried out. Vonn never heard such a somber melody as how his own mother wept in her sleep while he stayed tucked there.

Then, she'd adjusted and the rest was the death of his father. A ruse as Richard too was sacrificed and came to be reborn in a body neither he nor she. They now were the Nyggt Hauk, a reincarnated savior of the court of the great fowl. Richard swore it was fir their own good that he never should return. That Vonn live on to find his true family in others.

Rosalie was beside herself and the last heir, eldest to send Vonn away. He was truly a disgust to her now, anyways. The man's mother had killed her father. She was coddled sweetly by that man as well, groomed to be a ruler.

Then, who was Vonn?

He found his role, as his lips moved to spake to the crowd.

"I am the mercenary called Vonndel. I come from the farthest mountain peaks and seek the key towards the path of an old face I shan't name here. The key also will allow me the role of killing the enemy of the crown and one said to be after the new leader of the city of the Great bat." Vonn pulled up his drink and finished, leaving down his silver as he picked up his massive build at nearly twenty – giants aged differently than normal mortals, so he was nearly his father's build. Dark brown locks and long to his face to back. His beard was a ruse to make himself look that frightening as the way his body stood, had the gossip gulp and nod in conclusion, "A key…don't know I a ever heard of that. In Sterlile, a old alley by the west bank could be a first look…when…are you headed to stop an assa –

"I kill wherever needed, and someone hath called for me." Vonn said before leading himself out into the snowy realm of an early frost. Coughing souls and children in the snow who had no parents littered about and some, even took to pick pocketing.

The western most side was a bit more like this. None were left to a good state as Sterlile was run into bankruptcy due to the last treaty falling apart. That, and no head kings were there but lords to drip it dry. Styr was the main capital as Vonn still had only one lead that would take him deep underground.

The snow dusted thatched roofs and let the cat seep in. At the rate it was, Vonn was immortal and burned away plagues thanks to his father. His mother was mostly a magical person, so his ability to cast was due to his need for the key. A relic he'd never been allowed on his last journey to see the Nyggt Hauk.

Boots of beast hides and metal inserts draped the man's toes in warmth as he shuffled to the gates existing the first section. The second, was surely rough with plague he'd need to avoid.
