Chapter Text

Yelling.

Guilt.

Silence.

S̶i̶l̶e̶n̶c̶e̶? C̶a̶n̶d̶y̶ n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ w̶a̶s̶-

These were all Candy Apple was experiencing after letting loose Gingerbrave and his friends, hence creating the whole “Pure Vanilla awakened” situation. She didn’t mean to cause the spire to collapse. She didn’t even know there was a chance of that happening! She stood in front of Sapphire trying her best to hold back from crying or else she might make it worse.
Unfortunately for her, it did and for the first time Black Sapphire just snapped.

“You almost got us killed!”

“…”

“Do you know we could have lost a lot more than some scratches and a broken arm?!”

Black Sapphire thundered with his right arm wrapped up with what little bandage they had. Shadow Milk had most of his strength used up during the fight, rendering him useless when it came to healing.

“You never think about the consequences of all those stunts you pull! You always assume Master Shadow Milk will just forgive you, just magic you out of every situation like some god?!”

“I-”

“You always want his attention. You always want to help ‘us’. You always want to be the center of everyone’s life!”

“. . .”

“Just a damn failure that keeps us all behind!”

Failure.
That’s all you are.
A misused piece of magic.

“Candy I didn’t mean to- it just slipped.” he quickly withdrew from his rant watching as Candy Apple trembled in place as he realized what he just said.

“. . .”

She bolted down the hall to her room before locking the door, her heels clicking the ground, seemingly unaware of his calls. He was right. She caused all of this to happen so she didn’t deserve to stay.
She didn’t deserve them.
The clothes were the first thing to go into the bag with the majority of her room being packed up, except for her Shadow Milk themed items or Black Sapphire ones. Afterall, she wasn’t or at least didn’t want to see them again after what she did.
She let out a long sigh before turning to leave through one of the trap doors before a certain charm caught her attention. A beautiful grape key charm Sapphire gave her back when she was little sat on the dresser, growing to be one of her favorite possessions.
She lightly picked it up…
Suddenly a memory flashed in her mind-

She had been loudly crying after losing her favorite plush with all attempts at comforting her by Shadow Milk going unnoticed. Sapphire, of course, already had a plan to get her to calm down.
“Heyyy, sis you there?” he asked in a soft voice as his eyes landed on a sobbing child hiding behind a bookshelf of the library. They were only 3 years apart but Sapphire had always been the most mature out of the two.
“Sapphi?” She managed to say between sobs as she looked up with watery eyes to his gentle approach. He sat down next to her before deciding to break the silence. “I made you something, it isn’t very good but Master helped me make it shiny!” he beamed as he held up a shiny charm, proudly holding it out to her.
She let out a childish squeal of amusement while quickly putting it on, just like he had hoped she would. “I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!! I LOVE IT!!!” she yelled while practically barreling into him. He let out a laugh at the sudden impact, choosing to ignore how his breath was knocked out of him. He wished she would stay this happy forever…

Yeah, no way in hell she was leaving this here, even if it was cruel to hang onto people you know you shouldn’t be with. She added it to the rest of the bag before opening the door and quietly slinking to the exit by using some of the older hallways that were connected to one of her trap doors. Luckily, they hadn’t crumbled from Shadow Milk’s melt down.
The “incident” really had hit the spire hard, especially in the east wing where Pure Vanilla had been. She just silently cringed at seeing each broken staircase or cracked wall left over. It wasn’t nice to know it was her fault after all.
Soon she reached the thick door which led directly into the forest, unlike the ones their guests would use to get in and out. It was a more dangerous way but a much better path for leaving unnoticed.
She grabbed out a compass, which she happened to buy due to its cute red cover, and began to walk north. She honestly didn’t know where she wanted to go but had a general idea of where most of the cities or towns would be.

Ten minutes passed by…

Twenty minutes passed by…

Thirty minutes passed by…

“This is going to take a million years!” she huffed to herself as she pushed forward with her dress getting caught and torn by several tree branches. There were even some that got into her hair as she went by, causing her to stop every few minutes to rip out most of them from her hair. After this kept on happening for a while she took off both of her apples, along with her stocking, bow tie, and sheer sleeves.
FINALLY, she can get out of these forest faster-

Snap

“What was that…?” she asked to no one in particular before looking around cautiously. There didn’t seem to be anyone here but then again appearances can be deceiving. She decided to look around again before she heard a growl- wait what.
A wolf that must have escaped from one of Shadow Milk’s traps lunged at her before she could launch an attack. It got both her left side of her face, also going over her eye, and her left arm with gashes. She stood there in silence for a solid 30 seconds after killing the wolf before crying out-
“FUCK!”
🂱
Knock…knock…knock
“Cmon’ Candy, I know you’re in there!” he shouts to no avail.
“Candy?” he says while lowering his tone, it wasn’t normal for her to be this quiet. When he got no response yet again, he used the master key he had “borrowed” from Shadow Milk in order to unlock her door. She could be hurt after all but it wasn’t right to not check on-
“CANDY?!” he screeched so loud Shadow Milk heard it from his office at the realization she was gone.
“Nononononono…” he mumbled while frantically tossing around her things in order to find where she went. The trap door had already been sealed up by the constant changing of the spire so there was no way to find it.

Shadow Milk was quickly snapped out of his plans of revenge at the pain stricken screech Sapphire let out and bolted up with a start. There were WAY too many things he could already imagine that might have happened to her (h̶e̶r̶ u̶p̶ a̶n̶d̶ j̶u̶s̶t̶ r̶u̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ a̶w̶a̶y̶ w̶a̶s̶ n̶o̶t̶ o̶n̶e̶ o̶f̶ t̶h̶e̶m̶).
He managed to get to her room in about five minutes, only to find him looking half deranged while throwing Candy Apple’s things out of the way.

“Sapphire what happened-” he questioned before getting interrupted.

“She’s gone.” he said in an anxious whisper, avoiding his eyes.

“...what.” he deadpanned while looking like he just saw someone get murdered in front of him.
