Work Text:

Two Masters

It had been months since he had seen her. Obi Wan Kenobi landed on the platform of Aldaaran where he was met by Senator Organa.
“Master Kenobi, it is a pleasure to see you,” Senator Organa greeted, warmly shaking Obi Wan’s hand.
“Good to see you again, Senator,” Obi Wan returned. “I came to speak to Master Bar Shay, is she here?”
“Kaia Bar Shay has kept to herself lately but she is here,” Senator Organa replied. “You might find her in a hut in the woods.”
Obi Wan bowed and made his way to the lush forests. He found himself looking at a secluded hut. Yet there was no one in sight. Suddenly there was a purple backhanded lightsaber at his throat. Obi Wan turned to find a light skinned woman with sapphire eyes and jet black hair in two braids staring down at him. “Master Kenobi, caught off his guard? Surely, Qui Gon taught you better?”
“And did Master Windu not teach you to underestimate your opponent?” Obi Wan asked, pointing his hilt at her stomach.
“Indeed, we were taught well,” Kaia replied.
Kaia lowered her saber and filled Obi Wan into her arms and their lips met. “What kept you?”
“I’ve been rather busy. Count Dooku runs and hides,” Obi Wan explained. “And how do you fare?”
Kaia opened her brown robes to reveal a large belly. “Any day now. No one suspects anything.”
“Boy or girl?” Obi Wan asked, placing his hand on her belly.
“I don’t know. But I think it’s a girl,” Kaia replied. “If it is, I want to name her Alora. If it’s a boy, Cass, after my father.”
“I like it,” Obi Wan said. “Much more dignified than Obi Wan. What news here?”
“We have no sightings of the separatists or Count Dooku,” Kaia replied. “We have reports they are gathering in the Outer Rim.”
“I must report back to the Council. I will return soon,” Obi Wan promised.
“Don’t take months this time,” Kaia said in jest.
Almost three weeks to the day, Kaia lay in terrible pain as she gave birth to her child. Her hair was matted to her head and sweat poured down her head. Obi Wan burst through her hut and raced to her side.
“About time,” Kaia breathed.
“How is the child?” Obi Wan asked, holding her hand.
“Strong as you are,” Kaia replied before a contraction shook her body.
“Push, my love,” Obi Wan urged her on.
Kaia pushed as hard as she could. Obi Wan felt the bones in his hand come together as she squeezed his hand. For hours Kaia cried out as she pushed. At long last, Kaia cried out one last time before she heard the cries of her child.
“It’s a girl!” Obi Wan laughed joyfully, holding his new daughter. “Its Alora!”
“She will make a powerful Jedi someday,” Kaia breathed.
Alas happy moments cannot last forever. Obi Wan had received word that Dooku was sighted on Geonosis.
“You don’t really think you’re going after Dooku alone, do you?” Kaia asked.
“I must,” Obi Wan replied. “Someone must raise our child.”
“I have left her to my sister, Sol, should I not return,” Kaia explained. “We cannot let Dooku escape.”
Knowing he could not refuse her, Obi Wan agreed. They landed their fighters in the hanger. Approaching with caution, they drew their sabers.
They were met by Count Dooku. “It was foolish to think you could defeat me.”
“You won’t get away this time, Dooku,” Obi Wan declared.
Dooku ignited his red lightsaber and engaged Obi Wan and Kaia. Obi Wan engaged from the front while Kaia attacked from behind.
“Master Bar Shay, you disappoint. Master Windu spoke so highly of you,” Dooku taunted.
“That is where you are wrong,” Kaia replied.
She twirled as she advanced on Dooku as did Obi Wan. Alas the Sith was cunning. Using the Force, he levitated and choked Obi Wan, sending him crashing into a wall. Kaia advanced on Dooku, spinning in the air as she did. Her lightsaber met with Cookies before he dropped it, and caught it in his opposite hand. Before Kaia could react, Dooku’s saber had passed through her body.
Obi Wan screamed as he watched Kaia crumple to the ground. “No!”
Dooku calmly fled as Obi Wan rushed to her side. “Kaia!”
“Its too late, Obi Wan,” Kaia breathed, her voice filled with pain.
“No, my love, no!” Obi Wan pleaded.
“Obi Wan,” Kaia said, her breaths ragged. “You must look after Alora. Train her. Promise me you will train her.”
“I promise,” Obi Wan whispered.
“She will be a great Jedi,” Kaia declared.
With one last smile, Kaia's eyes closed and she took one last breath in Obi Wan’s arms.
Returning to Aldaraan, Obi Wan watched the flames as the carried Kaia to the sky.
“Kaia Bar Shay was strong with the Force,” said a voice.
Obi Wan turned to find the spirit of Master Qui Gone beside him. “She was, Master Qui Gon.”
“And how long have you loved her?” Qui Gon asked.
“Longer than you loved Taal,” Obi Wan admitted.
“Your daughter will be a great Jedi,” Qui Gon acknowledged. “As you are and as was Kaia.”
Not long after, Obi Wan journeyed to the home of Sol Bar Shay. “Master Kenobi, it is an honor to receive you.”
“Sol Bar Shay, I am sorry for the loss of your sister,” Obi Wan said. “Before she died, your sister made me promise to train your niece as a Jedi.”
Sol nodded. “Of course. Would you like to meet her?”
Obi Wan nodded. Sol brought forth a swaddled child with light brown wisps and sapphire eyes.
Obi Wan smiled at the child. “Hello there. You’re going to be a great Jedi. I promise.”
