Chapter Text
All Hallows' Eve, a pagan holiday that has always been highly celebrated and regarded by the followers of the Church of Night.
It was a night full of festivities in celebration of the Dark Lord's reign.
However, for Diana who had only recently joined the supernatural world through an unholy union with Edward deemed the holiday to be nothing more than a harrowing reminder of how wrong and out of place she felt being a part of the world.
Gently unwrapping the towel around her short hair, she proceeded to wipe the foggy mirror with the towel. Seeing her husband behind her via the reflection in the mirror she sighed.
"Edward, you shouldn't be reading around this time anymore; even with all the magic in your possession no spell or potion can cure your eyesight. It is best if you do your reading in a brightly lit room and not with a side lamp that doesn't even function properly."
Edward sighed and calmly took off his glasses as soon as he heard his wife chastise him from inside the bathroom. He gently closed his grimoire and placed it by his bedside table.
Throwing the bed covers to the side he got out of bed. With his bare feet on the cold wooden floor, he slowly made his way over to her. Wrapping his arms around her abdomen he mumbled a few words of affection.
"I ever so miss your long hair Diana, why did you have to cut it?" Edward asked as he nudged his head into her slender neck.
Diana slightly leaned away from his touch as she felt someone else's gaze on her. "You know it was difficult for me to keep it tidy and it's easier to deal with it at this length," Diana grumbled as she applied a small amount of eye cream. Trying to ease her anxiousness she forced her body to lean into her husband's embrace. Mumbling a few unpleasant words Edward caressed her baby bump.
Rolling her eyes, Diana huffed exasperated, "I don't know why you are grumbling; it'll grow out eventually." Diana retorted, annoyed at his lack of consideration towards her discomfort throughout the whole pregnancy.
With a slight jolt of her shoulders she tried to break free from his possessive embrace.
Tightening his hold around her, Diana gasped as a chill ran up her spine. One of the many things that she had overlooked before their marriage was his possessiveness and his lack of empathy.
”I’m sorry, Diana. I don’t know why I said what I said, I don’t know what I was thinking.” Edward quickly apologized.
Recoiling at the clear lack of regret at the apology he was giving her, Diana was more than a few seconds ready to leave the life she had with him behind.
” E-Edward, let go. I’m beyond tired and I just want to lay down. My feet are red and swollen.”
With a slight groan Edward released his grip on her. Taking a few steps away from him Diana grimaced as she stopped in the middle of the bedroom unable to continue walking. With unexpected bouts of pain, Diana faltered forward as she held her belly in anguish. Biting back a scream she held tightly onto the tv stand.
"E-Edward something is wrong!"
Edward swiftly made his way towards his wife's side and pulled her into his arms. Diana gently rubbed her belly as she attempted to soothe herself with some breathing exercises. As a first time mother she had read up on many books but nothing could have prepared her for the pain that came with the joy of holding her child in her arms.
"Ahh, t-this doesn't make any sense! I-I'm not due till next month- Edward!" Diana cried out in pain as her husband rushed down the stairs with her in his arms.
"Everything's going to be okay- Breathe Diana!"
Edward quickly started the car as his wife yelled at him to take her to the hospital and not some creepy clearing in the woods.
Although, witch law prohibited witches from going to the hospital to give birth, they could not hold her accountable as she was not a witch. She did not sign her name in the book of the beast, and she did not pledge herself to any coven.
She only married a man who was a part of a much darker world than hers.

"Push Mrs. Spellman, you must push, just one more push", the Doctor yelled over Diana's groans.
Diana tightly clung to Edward's hand as he gently encouraged her. "I'm so proud of you Diana. You are doing beautifully."
With one last sharp rippling cry Diana closed her eyes exhausted as she heard her baby’s cry finally.
"Congratulations Mrs. Spellman you have given birth to a lovely daughter, born at exactly 11:45 p.m. on the 31 of October."
Edward looked over at the small bundle in the doctor's hand, he turned to look at his pale wife with concern. Pushing a strand of blond hair behind her ear and he continued to praise her, "You've done a great job, Diana. Our little Sabrina is well, you can rest now."
Diana faintly mumbled in response before the Doctor startled her back awake. "Mrs. Spellman you must continue pushing, you are about to give birth to your second child!" Diana opened her eyes wide as she looked at her husband confused.
The Doctor looked at the small baby's head and looked up at Diana, seeing her dazed state she repeated herself. "Mrs. Spellman you must push!"
Diana shook her head exhausted; she no longer had any energy left to push. Edward tightly held onto her hand again and prayed to the Dark Lord for their child's safety. "Diana, you have to push, one last time."
With lots of struggle and cursing, their youngest daughter was born 15 minutes after Sabrina.
The Doctor looked at the small baby in her arms with concern before gently passing the baby girl over to the leading nurse to be checked over and cleaned.
Edward frowned, concerned for the baby as the doctor's interactions were different. Although he was troubled, he was unable to do anything. Edward glanced down at Diana and softly stroked her head as she again closed her eyes from fatigue.
"Our children are safe Diana, just rest up. I'll watch over you until you wake up."

Diana slowly opened her eyes to a bright ray of light. She glanced at her left to find Edward fast asleep with their hands intertwined.
With a light knock on the door the doctor peeked inside. As soon as she saw Diana's clear blue eyes she kindly smiled at the young mother before walking into the room. "How are you doing Mrs. Spellman?"
Edward slowly woke up to the sound of soft chatter. As soon as he was wide awake, he looked up to see his sweet Diana laughing with the doctor. He sat up and pulled out his phone to check the time.
The Doctor looked over at Edward and silently called him out of the room to inform him of the terrible news. Diana looked at Edward puzzled before looking at the Doctor leaving with her husband.
Edward saw the doctor's ashen face and knew something was not right. "Has something happened to Diana- or the children, Dr. Martin?"
"As you are aware, your children were born premature, so they came out smaller than normal. This of course isn’t the problem as they were so close to their due date however your youngest daughter was born with poor health and I'm afraid she won't make it past this week. I'm truly sorry Mr. Spellman."
Edward puckered his lips as he tried to stop his eyes from watering. He couldn't allow his wife to see him in such a state it could cause her health to deteriorate.
"H-How high is that possibility?"
The Doctor sighed but calmly explained his daughter's probability of surviving, "I was recently informed your wife had only come once to get an ultrasound at the beginning of the pregnancy. At that time only one child was spotted, the other must have been hidden from sight. As the child was not detected in the earlier stages many small problems arose that caused her to not develop appropriately."
Edward could only nod his head at the doctor's report. After all she was right, after Diana's first ultrasound Zelda and Helga were left in charge of checking on Diana's pregnancy with their rituals. As it was customary for witches to be checked on progressively by midwives. However, he wasn't sure what went wrong, he couldn’t understand how Zelda was able to bypass a second child inside Diana.
"Yes, my wife and I have little to no trust on the devices hospital’s use. We believe the best way to deliver children is by doing so at home with a midwife and natural remedies."
The Doctor sighed and calmly informed him of what would presumably transpire a few days from now. "The physical damage her health suffered inside the womb has gravely harmed her. The baby had not been receiving sufficient nourishment and if you factor in her positioning inside her mother's womb her heart is smaller and weaker than normal premature babies. With all these problems, your daughter only has a 35% probability of surviving."
Edward's eyes swelled with tears as he took in the devastating news. The Dark Lord would not be happy at the news.
Diana gently rubbed her sore belly as she looked over at her husband through the small window on the door. At the sight of his watery eyes, she knew something had happened to one of her babies. She slowly got out of bed with a groan.
Diana silently made her way to the door and pushed it open, surprising both her doctor and her husband. "Where are my kids? Bring me to them now Edward, I want to see my children!"
The Doctor gently grabbed hold of Diana's thin wrist as she helped Edward support the frail women. Edward quickly took hold of Diana's waist and walked her over to the bed.
"I want to see my babies, Edward! Don't you dare ignore me!"
Edward flinched at Diana's cold impassive tone, "Alright but calm down Diana, you are only going to worsen your condition"
Time skip
Diana was slowly pushed through the hospital bustling hallway in a wheelchair by her husband who had acquired the wheelchair from a nurse.
They stopped in front of the NICU and looked down at their youngest daughter squirming inside the incubator wide awake.
"She is so little Edward. Look at her honey, she can't leave us yet. Our daughter hasn't even seen the world."
Edward clenched his hands around the wheelchair's handle before promising to his wife he would search for a way to save their daughter.
Time skip
Four days had passed and the small child remained nameless as both Edward and Diana have not been able to find any solutions to safely save their daughter's life from death.
"The Dark Lord has inquired about our daughter; he wishes to meet her."
Diana looked up from Edwards grimoire and frowned. Why would that person of all people be interested in their child? "Does he wish to see Sabrina or ...our youngest?"
Edward shook his head as he gently rocked his fussy daughter in his arms. Their youngest daughter's health was worsening as the days passed by and there was nothing the best doctors could do. Although he was already at the point of giving up on the girl, his wife was a stubborn woman and refused to let their child go.
"He’s only aware of Sabrina's existence......he does not know anything about the other girl as her survival is not guaranteed. I did not want to alert him of our second child's existence in case she does not make it. Her early departure from this world could upset him, after all, he blessed our marriage. If our child were to die...I can't imagine what he would do."
Diana nodded her head solemnly as she got up from the hospital bed to visit her daughter in the NICU. For the past 4 days Diana has visited her daughter every night and accompanied her for 3 hours, she would have stayed longer but the nurse's had restricted her visitation hours.
Time skip
Diana sighed as she looked out at the sun set from inside her room inside the hospital. The world outside continued to progress without a care for anyone. Her helpless daughter fought day after day to stay alive and she was losing the fight for life each passing day. It was only a matter of time before she would finally let go, and Diana could not accept it.
Opening another grimoire, she frowned as she continued to read the notes around the page's margins.
"Nothing exists and yet it all does at the same time. Two truths and no lie, when a person looks from the inside and from the outside, they trust what they see from their perspective."
To keep her daughter alive Diana needed to leave her inside the Void where she would no longer exist but still live. Diana gently closed her book and quietly made her way into the NICU for her daily visit. She looked up at the nurse and gently smiled up at her just like she would regularly do before looking down at her daughter.
It was dangerous and reckless, but that was her only option, and it could very well erase her daughter's existence, but it could also be what saved her. Diana knew the only way to keep her little girl alive was by gambling and placing her trust in the Void.
She gently pulled out all the tubs connected to her daughter's small body and wrapped the small girl into a soft white blanket. She pulled her closely towards her body and gently carried her out of the ward without being noticed.
As she made it inside her room her husband raised an eyebrow at her curiously before his eyes dilated in horror. "Diana what have you done?" Edward recognized the small bundle in his wife's arms. "
"Edward please you must take me to the Void now, our daughter can only survive there. Please, I beg of you to trust me."
Edward looked down at the small baby in her arms before quickly pulling his coat back on. "Let's go before they ring the alarm. We don't have much time before they notice she's gone from the ward."
Diana quickly followed after her husband with their daughter in her arms, "Where is Sabrina?"
Edward looks behind him as a few nurses pass by before turning his attention back on her. Averting his eyes away from her he opened the door as he calmly answered her, "Zelda came in yesterday and took her with her."
Diana frowned as soon as she heard her sister-in-law's name."...I see."
Time skip
After walking around the woods for two hours Edward called for the Void's entrance using a large old tree as a gateway. Before Diana could walk through the wooden door Edward held her arm back. "Don't walk too close to the entrance or you might get yourself sucked inside dear." Diana nodded as she gently placed the basket holding her child in front of the entrance.
"Don't worry no one is crazy enough to come looking for the Void but us Diana, if you believe this place will cure her then- she is safe for now."
Diana softly kissed her daughter's head and her cheek before finally naming her child, "My beloved daughter, Persephone...Morningstar. Born on the witching hour on All Hallows' Eve-Mommy loves you...and I'm sure your papa loves you too, stay safe and quickly grow strong. "
"Diana-" Edward called out in disbelief as he heard the child's name slip out of her lips.
Diana pushed the basket into the Void and gently closed the door. She placed her hand on the old tree as the door disappeared.
"Do you believe me to be an idiot, Edward? Did you think I was incapable of noticing all the sneaking around you have been doing after our daughter’s birth? Do you take me as an idiot! Sabrina, Persephone, they are my babies, my blood, my children and you have no ounce of care for them in your bones."
Edward scoffed as he narrowed his gaze at her, the woman he married and swore to love.
"They are very much my daughters!"
Diana rolled her eyes as tears started to stream down her rosy cheeks, "Your daughters? Please spare me the drama, they are nothing to you because you are not their father. You don't care for them like a father would because you feel nothing! "
"I do care-"
Diana scoffed as she ran a hand through her short hair. "Lies! You pondered Sabrina off like she was nothing but a used car! Did you think I wouldn't have figured out your deceitful lies?"
Edward grimaced as he tried to think of the person capable of crossing him.
"Who told you such poppycock!"
Diana could no longer trust the man she married. Who knew the man she loved was so devious and calculating. The man before her was not the man she married and agreed to grow old with, he was an imposter. "I overheard Zelda praying to the Dark Lord about Sabrina's name being promised as it was somehow agreed. What deal did you make in exchange for my child's soul Edward?!"
Edward finally snapped as he hastily made his way over to her. He roughly grabbed her shoulder as he confessed his sin. "I-I love you Diana but to marry you the Dark Lord wanted proof of my unwavering devotion. He asked for your child's name in the book of the beast."
Diana anxiously tried to pray his hands off her as she helplessly listened to his confession. "T-Tell me you couldn't do it Edward. My baby's name-No, tell me-Please!"
Edward deranged smiled twitched as he forcefully held onto her. "I had to do it Diana, I love you and only you."
Diana painfully cried as she felt a firm force press her body in place as she struggled to break free from Edward, before she knew it, he lost a hold of his magic and sent her flying.
Edward watched in horror as Diana's body hit a tree stump before promptly falling onto the ground lifeless.
He ran up to her stilled body and cradled her, "I-I'm sorry I hurt you Diana, but you made me so angry. I-it's all my fault. Come on, wake up and let's go home to meet Sabrina. D-Diana?"
Edward looked down at her broken neck and choked out a small cry of sorrow. He held her close as he finally realized what he had done. His glazed eyes dulled as he silently held Diana's lifeless body in his arms unaware of the bloodthirsty hound he had just unleashed.
"I-It's going to be ok."
