Father Jason greeted a fellow worshipper as they passed him.
"Ah! Father Jason!"
Jason turned, blinking slowly as he said in a curt voice, "Yes?"
"Um, there's an event for a charity event for the church within the town square in a week. How do you wish for us to proceed?"
"Do as we usually do. What we do is for the people." Jason said, before he bowed his head and said, "Many blessings to you. I will take my leave. Don't disturb me, I will be praying for the next few hours."
"Of course! Many blessings to you, Father Jason!"
Jason walked through the halls, his footsteps creating small echoes within the large, empty halls. Marble statues lined the walls, glass windows of their god shining colored lights onto him.
He paused, his face shrouded in a rare moment of darkness where the light could not reach. A statue casted a shadow over him, looking down on him.
"Who is there?" He asked.
Something cool trailed down his neck.
Jason immediately whirled around, his teeth bared as he snarled. He took the dagger hidden in his sleeve out, hissing as he realized nothing was behind him.
Hands wrapped around his waist and then pulled him backward into a warm chest. A cool breath blew over his ear, sending shivers down his spine.
"You—!" He grit his teeth but could not move.
Knowing this demon, she would not have her feet on the ground in order to make sure he could not trip her. Any evasive maneuvers that he knew to get away were useless when paired with her.
"It's me." She cooed, a beautiful voice exactly like a siren's would sound whispering into his ear.
He turned slightly, catching her eye.
Her pupils narrowed into rectangular slits at his focus on her. These goat eyes of hers were a symbol not only of her demonic nature, but also her high status within hell. A princess, both in the human world and the demonic world, her beauty beyond comparison.
She was a being that not even he could easily get rid of.
When he had tried, it had taken her only a few weeks to turn the tables and get her revenge on him as well. The black tattoos over his ankles and neck showed her growing curse on him.
A giggle left her red lips as her hands rubbed at his stomach. "Are you hungry, Jay? I am. We should spend a night together, Jay, and see what happens."
"I know what will happen." Jason hissed. "I'll be dead."
The demon chuckled mockingly. "Oh, Father Jason. Shall we pray together? I will personally give my amens to the Heavenly Father above us all. Maybe he'll even bless you for once?"
His fingers clenched tightly on the holy dagger. He wished he could stab her right into her glib mouth, but it had never succeeded any time he had tried.
She knew that he was prideful and bitter. While his family had all received blessings from their god, he alone had not. He had turned to the church in an attempt to gain the lord's favor, yet no matter how many demons he killed to please him, the sins from his soul from that faithful day could not be washed away so easily.
She smiled at the rage in his eyes. Her hands continued to rub at his stomach almost teasingly, a finger trailing low before coming back up. He flinched and snarled.
"How is your brother, Jay?" She asked, and his blood turned cold.
"... what?"
She giggled again, her fangs flashing behind crimson lips. "Your brother. The one with the wife? Did you know that he has a thing for redheads?"
Her red hair, a shade of brilliant ruby, seemed to mock him.
A pit grew within Jason's stomach. No. Did she...?
"You didn't," he couldn't help but whisper in horror. "You didn't go and seduce him, did you?!"
She laughed, loud, bright, and happy. "Oh! It was so easy! He was already cheating on his wife with that family friend of yours... Barbara, was it?"
"You...!!" He couldn't help but growl, pulling away sharply from her relaxed hands to thrust the blade of the dagger toward her. Red filled his vision, but he was distracted and her legs wrapped around his, her hands immediately caging around his wrists, pulling him to a stop.
He struggled, the dagger coming dangerously close to her, yet she didn't look worried.
"Did I anger you, Jay? What are you so angry for? He was already cheating. I was just another body he fell tempted to." She said with a smile. Her pointed tail curled around his waist, teasingly rubbing him once again. "Does it make you angry, Jay? How he cheats on his lawful wife with another woman and is still blessed? How he fell for my wiles so easily when he is loved by the lord, unlike you?"
Jason trembled, his muscles straining in an effort to kill her.
She leaned in closer, her eyelashes fluttering. Her expression had changed from that charming, seductive look to one of cold stone.
"An eye for an eye, Jay." Her voice rang stoically in the empty halls. "Did it feel good when you tortured my little sister to death?"
Jason finally smirked triumphantly. "Did you find out about it? I nailed her head to the doors of the church so you'd see it first thing."
He felt vindication as her beautiful face scrunched in fury.
Yes, this was how it should be. He was not stronger than her, but he was smarter and wilier. She was clever and petty, but he was just simply better. She may have had her demonic abilities, but he had the lord’s weapons.
He would soon dominate over this thorny succubus and get rid of her once and for all.
"Were you sad?" He cooed, returning the favor as she glared at him. The tip of her tail dug into his abdomen, but he continued to speak, "I wish I could've seen it. I bet your face would've been hilarious."
"Sadist," she spat. "No wonder the Heavenly Father will not accept you."
"He will," Jason said. "He will when I complete my mission of eliminating filth like you from this mortal plane."
She laughed. "Ha! Pitiful Jason. Killed and resurrected at the age of 15, losing God's favor in the process. I bet your father hated the sight of you. Isn't that why you can't do anything but kill demons?"
Jason snarled. "I am helping god's mission. The only one who can is me. You're nothing but an obstacle."
"Aww, you don't like me? That wasn't what you said last week."
Jason bared his teeth as his muscles strained again. The dagger in his fist trembled. "As if. You forced yourself onto me, you piece of shit."
The demon rolled her eyes. "Succubi don't force others." She then smiled. "You wanted it."
Jason replaced his forward pressure to move backward and startled her. In that moment of distraction, he kicked her in the stomach and threw her off. She gasped but then jumped to the ground on all fours, balancing like a cat before she dodged the slash he tried to give her with his dagger.
She hissed with vitriol but smiled as she continued to dodge and weave between his blows.
"Pfft, are you angry that what I said was true? You know that we succubi and incubi don't take unwilling partners in bed. You wanted it. You wanted me. You think I'm beautiful, after all." She laughed again, as Jason pulled out the holy water bottle on his hip and pulled the cork stopper out. "The day we met, I knew you would be fun to play with! Imagine how I felt when I took the form you were most attracted to, and I had barely changed at all from my true form! Oh, what would your father say?"
She laughed and Jason threw the holy water at her, little sparkling droplets landing close to her. She batted them off, but the blessed water continued to create holes into her porcelain skin, smoking and fizzling.
Her smile didn't falter.
It was as Jason expected. He had once tortured her, after all, and throughout his endeavors to make her scream, he hadn't gotten much out of her when he had used holy items. She had only screamed for him when he had torn into her skin. Naturally, a week into him breaking her, she had gotten out of his bonds and then returned the favor of making him scream.
His wrists and ankles still hurt from the long hours of being chained up and used for her pleasure.
The two of them had been in a long stalemate.
It wouldn't end soon either, especially with their backers.
Jason had his father and family, a notorious family blessed by the lord and renowned for their skills in demon hunting.
She had her own family behind her, the rulers of Hell. Her brother was an existence that ruled over Death and he was fiercely protective of her and his family.
Even if Jason had killed their little sister, she would soon revive in a few decades anyways.
If Jason killed the succubus in front of him, there would be an apocalypse on Earth, especially with one sister already incapacitated. If they killed each other, chaos would erupt with the forces of Heaven and Hell against each other.
It had been a risky move to kill the little demon, but Jason did not regret it.
Anything to have an upper hand over the seductive and beautiful succubus, after all.
Except now, she had even gone after his brother.
"Vile creature," Jason snarled. "I will not be tempted by your charms."
She laughed, dodging another swipe from his dagger.
Jason narrowed his eyes and smiled with the same mocking sneer that she had always given him. "Poor little succubus. Too weak to stay in Hell, so the only thing you could do was go upwards to do something, hm? How's your little brother, by the way? Still cleaning up your messes?"
She glared at him.
Jason continued, "You're nothing but a burden to your family, demon. The only thing you could've done was become a succubus to take other people's energy. Otherwise, without stealing, how could you become anything else but the family shame?"
"My, my. Hello, pot." The demon said through gritted fangs.
Jason squinted at her and then they both darted forward. With each of her powerful lunges, she beat him back several steps until Jason tripped her up and pushed her back. This back-and-forth was something that they always did, constantly stuck in this stalemate over and over again.
She always held back against hurting him too much. He had never gotten more than broken limbs or drained blood when they entangled in their usual fights.
When he managed to get a hit to her side and cut through her clothes and flesh, she laughed loudly, almost crazily.
"Oh, Jay. You're so adorable." She cooed, a hint of mocking in her turquoise eyes. "If I was a mortal woman, you would've long since fallen for me. But I guess you already have, haven't you?"
"As if! Don't put words into my mouth! You're disgusting and I wish you'd die already!" He spat. He grew even more incensed, moving faster to strike again.
She giggled again, before darting forward. He was too slow to meet her, and she pressed her claws against his shoulders, forcing him onto the floor as she smoothly straddled him. Her tail curled around his ankles, securing his legs down. She laughed lowly, her hands caressing his shoulders and lowering to his chest briefly before she snapped a hand forward and grabbed both of his wrists, tugging it above his head.
Jason hissed at the throbbing of his back and gritted his teeth.
The demon smiled sweetly. Her painted lips pulled into a mocking smile, an unholy glint in her eyes. "Ohh," she sighed sensually into his ears, pressing herself against him. Her red hair pooled around them while her free hand trailed down his chest and began to unbutton his cassock.
Jason turned his face away, willing the heat in his cheeks to go away.
No matter how many times this happened, he was still powerless to get her to stop.
Yes, he was simply powerless against a demon.
Heaven did not make it easy for her soldiers, after all.
"Get. Off." Jason grit his teeth as her lips pressed against his bare neck. The silver cross that had dangled from his neck broke off with a simple tug of her claws, and it dropped to the floor and bounced away. Jason watched it slide some distance away from him, before the demon clamped her talons around his ankles and pulled them apart to lift the cassock off of his legs.
Jason flushed and twisted to get away. Her grip on his wrists tightened and he bucked to get her off. She stubbornly stayed on, only considerately lightening the weight on him by lifting her hips slightly as she stared at him with cool eyes.
She lifted her head, her hair a crimson curtain that laid in ribbons around them, before she smiled sweetly.
"Call my name, Jason." She whispered, nuzzling her cheek against his chest.
He didn't know it.
Names were powerful, and he had never been able to get her to reveal hers.
He bared his teeth and she pressed her lips against his in a chaste kiss. She pulled away and then laughed lightly.
"Call me, Jay. Call me and I'll make it gentle for you."
"I don't want it to be gentle." Jason spat. "I wished you just killed me."
"Jason." She said, laying her head against his chest.
Jason gritted his teeth. He couldn't help how he slackened his body underneath hers before he called softly, "Jazz," and then cried out as she finally descended onto his body.
In the halls of the church, watched by the statues of the holy father, its walls once again hid two sinners within its defiled insides.
The two hid within its bowels and as they grew the rot of sin further until it festered, one could only wonder why the beloved son of a blessed man lost his blessings but never had his holy weapons fail, while the demon that preyed upon him never went too far in her cannibalism of his lust.
Although both were far above and below the mortals of the human realm, at this moment, they had been pulled and molded into the likeness of the creator, painfully human and miserable and disgusting as the rest of humanity and the creatures that lived on earth.
Perhaps the reason why these two kept each other alive was because they were broken, disturbed beings. Perhaps it was because they were lonely and the only excitement they could find was from one another. Perhaps it was because they were destined from fate, a reflection of one another, a mirror of what the other could've been if they had been different species.
In another universe, the world was not divided into the holy, the damned, and the helpless. In another universe, these two didn't have to fight in a hypocritical, senseless battle. In another universe, they were friends, equals, lovers.
But this universe wasn't happy like the other ones.
And so demon and human could only tear each other apart with their teeth and hands to take back the heart that they had unwillingly gave to the other, stuffed into their chests with a beat that sang with one another.
This worthless battle would never end. Not until even the helpless were eradicated with them.
Thankfully, they didn't want it to.
