Cicada Days

Summary:

"Just one week of Cicada Days, we're losing touch."

Luz and Amity had been dating for years, and had known each other for even longer. Only problem is that Luz lives in a small town in Connecticut and Amity lives in a giant house in Los Angeles.

But after years of trying, Amity's managed to get flights over to stay with Luz.

A week's all they get, but they'll make sure they spend their week with each other as much as possible. They'll picnic, go camping, take walks, dance together, anything they can to be with the greatest person they've ever met.

(I promise it's better than the summary lol)

Notes:

Welcome to the start of my next big multi-chapter fic! I've been absolutely in love with Cicada Days recently (a song by Will Wood that this fic is named and loosely based on) and it sparked me to make this fic!

I hope you guys all enjoy! Welcome to this (probably bumpy) ride :3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Luz rocked back and forth, from her heels to her toes, over and over again. She was buzzing with excitement and filled with butterflies. She stood there in the arrivals of the airport, waiting and watching for someone specific. She checked her watch again, it had been over half an hour since they had landed, she should be coming out any second now.

Ok Luz, remember the plan… Luz thought to herself. You give her a hug, a kiss if she wants, and ask to take her bags for her. Don’t embarrass yourself, and don’t be too overbearing. Luz took a deep breath, she still couldn’t believe it was finally happening, it didn’t feel real to her, for the months leading up to this she had been convinced that she had imagined the whole thing and that it wouldn’t happen but here she was, waiting in the airport.

Then Luz caught her first glimpse and her breath caught in her chest. Of course the first thing she noticed was the beautiful purple colour of her messy hair that still managed to gracefully fall over her shoulders. Those brilliant golden eyes locked with Luz’s, and instantly Luz felt her body rush with pure elation. She smiled widely, waving to the girl walking towards Luz who started to get faster and faster, awkwardly turning through the barriers that were put up as she made her way towards Luz as fast as she could.

Luz couldn’t even think of what to say anymore, she hadn’t felt this happy in a long long time, maybe even ever. The purple haired girl rushed into Luz’s arms, causing the Latina to stumble and fall to her knees. The two broke into fits of laughter, tears of joy forming in both of their eyes. The girl cupped Luz’s cheeks in her hands and started to lean in, pressing her lips against Luz’s with so much tender love that Luz could barely comprehend it. Luz wrapped her arms around Amity, reciprocating the kiss with joy.

After what felt like an eternity in heaven, the two broke apart, giggling to each other as they held one another close. “You’re here. You’re here, you’re really here.” Luz whispered through her tears.

“Finally.” Amity responded, tears of her own pricking at her eyes. “I love you.”

“I love you more.” Luz’s smile got even wider. “I cannot express how happy saying that to you in person makes me.”

Amity nodded, a dorkish smile of her own plastered on her face. “We, uh, should probably get up.” Amity giggled, the two had created quite the scene in the middle of the room, other’s being forced to walk past them and one girl saying to her boyfriend “Why don’t you greet me like that?” Casing the girls to laugh again, getting up slowly. When standing, the two flashed each other a smile before embracing properly.

Luz chuckled, pressing her forehead to Amity’s. “I knew you were short but… really?” She joked.

Amity let out a teary eyed laugh, lightly hitting Luz on the side. “You’re just abnormally tall.”

“Less than five minutes and you’ve already called me abnormal? New record.”

“You are such a dork, Luz Noceda.”

“And you love it, Amity Blight.”

Amity giggled again. “That I do. That I very much do.” She leaned up, pressing a quick kiss to Luz’s lips. “Now, chop chop.” Amity snapped her fingers jokingly and pointed to her bags. “Carry them for me, will you?”

Luz smiled, chuckling. “Yes Ma’am, would you like a back rub while I’m at it?” She picked up Amity’s bags, holding out her hand for Amity to take as they began walking to Luz’s car.

“That can wait until we’re alone.” She winked at Luz jokingly, causing the Latina to blush and smirk down at her.

“Can’t wait for that, better back up that big talk Hermosa.” Luz winked in return, causing Amity to turn bright red. “Ha! First Tomato Amity of the week.” She smiled down at Amity. “Even cuter in person.”

“You’re lucky I love you.” Amity pouted.

“You’re right. I’m so incredibly fucking lucky you love me.”

Amity sighed contently, a smile on her lips. She looked up at Luz, blush dancing on her cheeks. “You’re somehow even more stunning in person. How on Earth is that even possible?”

“Natural talent.” Luz poked her tongue out at Amity. “And also the love that clouds your vision.”

Amity giggled before sighing again, eyes still locked onto Luz. “I want to kiss you so badly.” Amity murmured.

Luz, not expecting that, stumbled momentarily, almost tripping over and landing face first on the concrete. She cleared her throat as she steadied herself, a small red dusting on her cheeks. “So, um, how was your flight?” Luz asked awkwardly, changing the subject to avoid further embarrassment.

“First class is nice as always, even better with the distinct lack of parents or siblings this time around.”

Luz rolled her eyes. “Rich bitch.”

Amity rolled her eyes as well in response. “I prefer the term ‘sugar mommy’.” She joked, causing the two of them to break into laughter.

The two eventually calmed down, now finding themselves next to Luz’s very old 2002 Toyota Tacoma. “Hope you enjoy going from first class to practically the storage cabin.” Luz chuckled, opening the trunk and starting to slide Amity’s luggage in. “But don’t worry, any problem the old girl has I can fix easily.”

Amity ran her hand over the doors as she walked over to the passenger side seat. “Honestly? It fits you perfectly, meaning it's better than any first class seat could ever be.”

“We get it, you love me, just say it.” Luz smirked, hopping into the front seat.

“Good idea. I love you.”

“That’s kinda gay.”

“Oh fuck you.”

_______

“And here we are.” Luz said as she pulled up into the driveway of her house. “Bienvenida a la casa de Noceda.”

“De Noceda y Blight.” Amity smiled.

“Wow, good job Hermosa. With your level of Spanish that must have been about all you know, hm?” Luz joked.

“Heyyyy, at least I’m trying, ok? It’s hard.” Amity pouted.

Luz snorted. “Eso es lo que ella dijo.”

“No hablo español.” Amity replied quickly.

Luz started laughing again. “At least you know that. Now come on, let’s get your stuff inside.”

Amity grabbed one bag, Luz grabbed the rest.

Luz awkwardly opened the door with the multiple bags in her hands, holding it open for Amity before walking in herself. “Mama! Ya llegue.”

“Luz!” Luz’s mom, Camila, quickly walked down the stairs, gasping with joy as she saw Amity. “And you must be Amity! I’ve heard so much about you.” She smiled widely, walking towards the two. “Luz will not shut up about you.” She joked, making Amity giggle.

“Mama, por favor.” Luz complained, blushing lightly.

“Oh hush, Luz, that’s a good thing! Means you love her.”

“Um, hello Mrs. Noceda.” Amity said awkwardly, holding out her hand for a handshake.

“Ha, ‘Mrs’.” Camila opened her arms and embraced Amity. “Just call me Camila, dear.” She took a step back, looking at the two as a few tears pricked at her eyes. “Ay, look at you, my little Luz all grown up with your own girl now. Your father would be so proud. Now, I would show you a bunch of Luz’s baby photos, but I think you two just want to be alone for now. Go on, enjoy each other’s company.”

“Yes ma’am- um, I mean, thank you Camila.” Amity blurted out awkwardly, blushing heavily. She quickly walked up the stairs, avoiding the embarrassment. Luz stayed downstairs for a second, smiling up the stairs where Amity had gone.

“I love her so much.”

Camila chuckled slightly. “Just don’t forget to interact with your mom every now and then.”

“Don’t worry mom, I promise I won’t.” Luz walked up the stairs and saw Amity sitting at the top.

“I love you too, dork.”

Luz smiled widely, leading Amity over to her room. As soon as they got in, they dropped all the bags and lept into bed together, Amity laying on top of Luz as the Latina wrapped her arms around the purple haired girl.

“This is gonna be the best week of my life, no doubt.” Luz said, pressing a kiss to Amity’s forehead.

“I just wish it could be longer.” Amity sighed. “I hate being so far from you.”

“Hey, as long as we have a week of Cicada Days.” Luz smiled.

“Cicada Days?”

“Song I like, I’ll play it for you later. For now, just wanna cuddle.” She buried her face into the crook of Amity’s neck, sighing happily as the two held each other, the years they had known each other online leading to the greatest moments of their lives as they got to finally be together.

And it was as perfect as they could ever have imagined.
