Summary:

Moving to Seoul was stressful, more than it needed to be due to his parents, but he was in Seoul now. There was no going back. A silent, self-made promise of not wanting to be mated, to show his parents there was more than having kids as an omega. Mingi is determined to make things work and the two firey omegas he finds along the way keep him from getting buried under all the weight on his shoulders.

Until he meets an alpha who just wants to see everyone happy and be a pack. Mingi fears being forgotten and lonely. The new-found pack won't leave him so easily.

Notes:

please note: my typing style is to type in lowercase a lot!! it's just a preference ;)
(i tried to control more of that here so there's just a mix of capitalising sentences and not, I'm sorry oops)

Chapter Text

Omegas. Mingi truly didn't know how he presented as one. It was like life was this never-ending cruel joke. He was taller than most omegas, not by a normal couple of inches but he stood at an even six foot. He was broad, his shoulders wide and his frame more beta-like. He just never understood how out of everyone in the family, he was the only omega. at first, his parents thought it was a joke, some prank he had done but Mingi would never forget the look on his father's face when he realized it wasn't a joke, he had an omega son.

School was already hard, his family being lower class meant he was a target but now this was more fuel. he was outcasted by even the few friends he had. he was weird and he knew it. The only thing Mingi looked forward to was leaving his small town. He had applied to colleges in Seoul. he knew he had a really good shot getting in due to grades so he just had to wait a few more weeks and it was going to change. there had to be other omegas like him, not every omega had to be petite and docile, he was going to be fine.

Mingi sighed, dusting the dirt off his shirt as he walked onto the porch of his house, some alpha's had shoved him, claiming to not "see him" but Mingi knew it was because he was an omega.

"I'm home!" Mingi called out, kicking off his shoes and dropping his bag in the doorway before making his way toward the kitchen where he figured his mom was.

His dad was home early. The two sat at the table and Mingi could feel the tension, "Hey-"

"Sit." His father's voice was loud and angry, and it made Mingi flinch. He followed the order and sat across from them at the table.

"What is this?" A paper was tossed across the table at him.

Mingi shakily grabbed it, seeing Seoul University written across the top and as he skimmed it dawned on him that it was an early admissions acceptance letter. His heart fluttered in his chest and he smiled before he could stop himself, "I got in!"

His father slammed his hand down, "Why the fuck are you applying to colleges?"

"B-Because-"

"You're an omega, there's no reason to pay thousands of dollars for an education! You know how much money I've spent trying to find suitors for you? All for you to try and put us in debt?" His father yelled, smacking his hand down again.

"Suitors? I'm not mating anyone, I-I thought, we always talked about college? I have a-a fund from grandma-"

"That was before you became a whore, omega's don't need to know about math and science, you need to convince someone that despite how you look you can bear pups!" His father rubbed his forehead.

"No. I'm not gonna just lay on my back for some alpha-"

"You'd be lucky if they took you on your back!" his father sneered.

"That fund is for school, regardless of sub-gender. I'm going to college," Mingi kept his voice level, "Seoul is diverse, there's probably more people like me! Don't you think it'll be good for me? Mom?"

Mingi's mom's eyes were sad, "Do you think it's a good idea? You're not very omega-like, and sure there may be different people, but all alphas want a good, soft omega, it's natural-"

"What the fuck would you guys know about it? You're both beta's! You couldn't even BE an omega or alpha, don't lecture me about biology-"

"You're not going, if I have to tie you down and let the first alpha in to mate you, I will. You don't have access to that fund, and it'll stay that way." His father snapped, standing from his seat.

"So you'd let me get raped and force-mated for your ego? Would it have been this way if I was an alpha or beta? I'm the best in my class, you guys have already given me a shit start in life because you refused to get better jobs, or let mom work," Mingi stood from his seat and went to leave, "Stop trying to play alpha when clearly your genetics couldn't take it."

Mingi's head snapped to the side quickly and his cheek burned.

"Get the fuck out. Pack a bag and go to Seoul, since you're convinced you'll be anything but a wet hole there." His dad spat, leaving the room after.

Mingi felt his eyes burn, he didn't turn back to look at his mom as he booked it up the stairs to shove as many clothes into a bag, as well as his laptop, chargers, and bathroom supplies. he had money from odd jobs so he could definitely get a place and he could always call his grandpa to release the funds earlier for him once he was there. He ran back down the stairs, slipping on his shoes and grabbing his school bag. He pulled out his phone and booked a train ticket before looking for a cheap hotel or flat, anything that would take him for the night.

"Min, please, he's just mad-"

"No! Mom, I can't take it here, I'll come back to get my diploma but I'm done in school, the letter is early admissions, I can't live here with someone itching to give me away, I'm not a pup-machine. I'm his son, omega or not, and he can't see that apparently," Mingi cut her off and grabbed the doorknob, "I love you, but I do not like you guys. If you want to live in a world so constricted, so be it. I won't." Mingi pulled the door open and slammed it behind him.

The train ride was long and Mingi was on edge. He had managed to grab a pack of scent blockers from a small store on the way but he knew there was a chance his scent would leak through because of how on edge he was. He spent the majority of the ride browsing a forum looking for people to sub-lease a room and he was quickly giving up hope.

Most were alpha’s wanting a live-in maid omega or looking for only beta’s. Mingi didn’t want to test his luck even if it was for a night. However, desperation was slowly winning the fight in his mind. He was tall and broad, as long as he used scent blockers he could pass for a beta.

LOOKING FOR ROOMMATE!!!

It was too many exclamation marks for Mingi personally but he clicked the link.

Looking for an omega roommate for two other omegas. NO alpha’s. We’re not interested. Beta’s are case by case. The room comes with a closet and an attached bathroom. Shared living/kitchen. Send a msg if interested :)

Mingi immediately hit the user’s icon and sent a message requesting the room, even if only for a week due to circumstances and that he’d be arriving late. Thankfully, they responded quickly and agreed for him to come by and talk. Mingi got directions and as soon as the train stopped, he gathered his bags and made his way. He managed to flag down a cab and it wasn’t too far but he really didn’t want to walk in the dark so the few bucks wasn’t a big deal.

The apartment outside was nice, and he figured the need for a roommate was due to rent prices in the area. He walked into the building up the stairs. It was the second floor, so it wasn’t too bad but the bags were starting to weigh on him if he was honest. He found the door and knocked.

The door opened and an omega opened the door, he had a strong line and he immediately rolled his eyes, “I said no alphas,” was all he said before he moved to shut the door.

“W-Wait! Please, I’m an omega, I swear! I have scent patches on, just as a safety precaution on the ride up,” Mingi pleaded, moving his hand up to his move the collar of his shirt.

The omega narrowed his eyes, looking Mingi up and down, “You can come inside to remove them but I’m serious, don’t think because we’re omega’s that if you’re lying you’ll come out unscathed.”

Mingi swallowed nervously but nodded. He followed the omega into the entryway, taking off his shoes before following to what he assumed was the living room.

“Hyung! He’s here,” the smaller one called out, sitting down on the couch. Mingi stood awkwardly as he waited for the other omega. He sat his duffel bag on the floor and shifted his weight when the other omega stepped out. He was taller. Mingi felt relaxed by his presence.

“Oh, I thought you said it was another omega…” The other trailed.

“Well, he says he is, just wearing blockers,” he gave mingi a pointed look.

“Oh! Sorry, here let me just,” Mingi brought up his hand and pulled off his scent patches, “I really wasn’t trying to deceive you, I just needed the safety of them. Most people just assumed I was a beta traveling alone so…My name is Song Mingi” He rambled, letting his scent flow out. His nose twitched, his scent was different from the vanilla and jasmine scents in the apartment. People often told him it smelled like a sunny day at the beach when he was happy and when he was upset it smelled like right before a tsunami hit.

Both omegas visibly relaxed, “Wow, you’re really tall for an omega! I’m Wooyoung, and this is Seonghwa, I’m just glad I didn’t have to call Sannie over,” he grinned, jumping up from the couch.

“Sannie is his alpha,” the other omega, Seonghwa noted, “We’ve had issues with alpha’s trying to get in from the ad.”

“Yeah, I understand! I’m sorry for putting you guys on edge,” Mingi looked down.

“So, the room! It’s towards the back of the apartment. Your share of the rent is about 550 but it includes the utilities! As I mentioned in the listing, it has an attached bathroom and closet. I cook a lot so don’t worry about that, just chip in for groceries once a month and I can meal prep anything!” Wooyoung told him as he grabbed his arm and led him down the hall.

“Are you sure?” Mingi asked, “I don’t mind chipping in more, honestly I was expecting the rent to be more.”

“Well, chip in however much for groceries but other than that, just clean up after yourself, or hyung will constantly move your stuff around and his organizing makes no sense-”

“Hey! It makes sense you’re just messy!” Seonghwa called from behind as they stepped into the room. It had basics like a bed, dresser, and a desk, “Oh the previous roommate left these, we can get rid of them if you want?”

“That’s okay!” Mingi shook his head, “Wait, can I stay?”

“Yeah! I know you said only a week, but we can count the week as a test run? We really just need someone here before the semester starts, we can afford it ourselves it’s just tight,” Wooyoung explained, letting Seonghwa past to set the duffel bag on the bed.

“Oh, do you guys go to the uni here?” Mingi asked.

“Yeah, hyungs a second year and I’m just starting,” Wooyoung sat on the bed.

“I just got my early acceptance letter so I’ll be joining you,” Mingi smiled softly.

“I hope this won’t bother you, but we do have alphas over, Wooyoung has San, and I have Hongjoong, but they often bring a couple of friends with them, Yeosang who’s a beta, and then Yunho who is another alpha,” Seonghwa listed off, “But they won’t ever bother you or anything like that.”

Mingi nodded, “That’s fine, I’ll probably look for work soon so.”

“Well, we’ll let you settle for tonight and tomorrow we go to the shops to get anything you need!” Wooyoung smiled. The two omegas left the room, saying a soft goodnight and when they were gone Mingi let his shoulders drop.

He dug through his bag for a pair of shorts that he changed into before moving everything on the floor and sitting on the bed. He didn’t bring a blanket or anything but he was tired. He turned over onto his side and closed his eyes, telling himself that tomorrow would be better.
