Chapter Text
It’s been only two days since the zombie apocalypse ended almost as quickly as it began. The Elite Beat Agents had finally found the time to get back to work and help with the cleanup process for the state before finally leaving the civilians to it.
However, beneath the ground; in a fit of rage, Spider demoness throws around piles of discarded tech and gemstones in her den. The three rhombulans flinch with each smashing noise as Vreenak watches on quietly. “I had those agents RIGHT where I wanted them! Victory was MINE! And I still lost!” She slams the floor with her fist. Vreenak comforts her in a hush tone “Demoness, your revenge will come in time. Now that we have this multi-mix we can begin the process towards the next step of our invasion.” She puts her fist to her forehead “How is that medicine mixer supposed to help?”
Vreenak runs the back of his metallic hand over the machine. “Human technology is much more archaic than the engineering I’m used to working with, my men could easily convert it into an engine we can use to craft your next attempt at conquering this planet.” As the demoness raises an eyebrow. The rhombulan wearing a visor steps forward. “Unfortunately we do not have access to the blueprints necessary to craft such a thing. We would need to do some research first. Luckily I know exactly where we could get some information like that from in no time.” Spider demoness turns to the alien “And where exactly would that be?” the alien chuckles “I’ve found that humans store most of their knowledge on the internet . And that much of it is left almost completely unsecured in a single data centre. There is still a catch. The firewall they use is powerful, it can’t be overcome by brute strength or being able to sniff out prey. It requires brains .” the hunter-themed rhombulan snaps at him “And if the agents try to stop you?”
“I have thought of a contingency plan for that series of events as well. The E.B.A makes use of the very same networks that I will be hijacking.” He chuckles to himself as he takes a piece of tech looking like a USB stick out of his pocket. “Simply put, have you ever heard the legend of the Trojan horse?”
Back at HQ the divas and Chieftain discuss a sudden change to the agency, even though J has insisted it’s just for a vacation- he’s leaving for an unclear amount of time. This came as a shock to most everyone. Was he really so exhausted by the last mission that he’s retiring from missions for who knows how long? It felt out of character, the agents at the meeting table talked about as much. It seems like he hadn’t even invited anyone, not even Starr. As they try to rationalise J’s thought process, they’re suddenly alerted by an emergency pop-up on their smart watches, a monotone voice saying “Check messages! Emergency! Real emergency! Free game download! App to help you sleep!” It strikes them as odd, but the four of them tap on the pop-up anyway.
Just down the hall, Spin is dejected as J packs his things onto a speedboat. Morris and Derek standing next to him. “I-I just… What do you mean, vacation?! ” the four of them get similar alerts to the other agents but ignore it, J rolls his eyes “Since when did we get ads on these things?” As he organises a rucksack, J looks over at Spin “Don’t sweat it, kid! I had always promised myself that if I found a successor I would go meet some old friends, take a tour of my old stomping grounds, see the world when we aren’t in the middle of saving it. Just cut loose, y’know?” J notices a folded up red biker jacket in his bag “ Oh yeah I’m definitely gonna want to bring this .”
“But you can’t just leave! What if some big population level threat comes along- {gasp} what if the spider demoness comes back?! ” J zips up his bag and slings it into the boat “You can handle it. You’ve only been on the team for a couple of months and you’ve already been given clearance to lead missions with backup dancers. We all saw you during the attack~ you took charge of the situation and acted like a real hero, you can totally handle the next one without me. Don’t be nervous! You’ve come a long way.” J pats Spin’s head, he responds by grumbling.
Derek raises an eyebrow “And what about the kid’s training? You said you would be mentoring him.”
“Pfft~ don’t worry about it! I’ll check in! I’ll totally send you some training tools, remote lessons, we’ll figure it out- and he’ll do great!” J gives a two fingered salute as he hops over to the speedboat’s controls. He yells “ Agent J- OUT! ” before rushing the boat through an underground passage of water to exit the HQ. The two backup dancers sigh as Spin shakes his fist in the air “F-fine! Just leave then! At least I know REAL FRIENDS DON’T ABANDON EACH OTHER! ” his face drops from anger to sadness as he turns around and storms off back to the training room. Morris puts his hands in his pockets “This is really hitting the kid hard, huh…?” Derek rubs his chin “I’m sure J won’t be gone for long but talk about bad timing. ”
