Impmon looks to Reiner, listening carefully to his words. He presents his signature smirk the whole time, never showing how hopeless he felt. This wasn't even another Digimon, it was a WALL! They were losing to a wall!
"I guess fists aren't too good for this," Reiner spoke, his voice strained for the pain of that battle still raging around them. Their friends falling to the ground with shouts of pain or alarm.
Reiner groaned, looking around trying to think of something to do, "What do you think we should do, Impmon?"
Impmon struggles for a moment, making it seem like he was just taking a breath. He was hurting a lot, and he was tired, but he refused to be weak. Even if his breaths were labored and his voice was strained. "That rock worked last time."
Impmon's mood was lifted slightly by a chuckle from Reiner. "I don't know why, but I-I guess I gotta lucky throw," Reiner seemed slightly amused despite the perilous situation, and that in and of itself made everything seem sorta okay.
"I'll make you an opening," Impmon found himself saying, giving Reiner an extra smirk and patting his leg. As though he were comforting the human instead of taking comfort from his mere presence.
Impmon stood forward, pressing the heels of his palms together, he closed his eyes for a moment. When they opened again they seemed to almost be blazing with their own flames. Blue and red swirled together from his joined hands, and he let it shoot out toward the center of the spider-webbing crack in the firewall.
Impmon hardly noticed the rock Reiner threw until his column of swirling flame collided and sent both attacks hurtling even stronger into the firewall than either had thought. Impmon saw the wall starting to collapse, seeing the walls beginning to give way. He was excited until he saw the start of a beam aimed right toward him.
"O-Oh geez, I thought- We're still in this-! I thought we- I thought that was gonna do it!" Impmon hardly got the words out before the laser fired at him. He attempted to block it as the final bits of his fire dissipated from his hands. The beam came flying at him and hit his chest full force.
The same spot it hit before… he felt a jolt as it burst out from his back. Leaving a burnt, jagged hole in his chest. At first, he couldn't really feel it, he could only feel his body falling. He looked down at his chest and saw the hole before finally feeling the pain. He fell back and to the side, able to see Reiner before his vision went fully dark. The last thing that he saw was Reiner's shocked and horrified gaze. Disbelief clouding his eyes…
Impmon couldn't really see or feel anything. All he could feel was a profound sense of wrongness, he… wasn't breathing… He wasn't able to move. It was all so… dark. For the first time in his life, he would admit he was scared. He tried to call out. For Reiner, for Flamemon, for ANYONE! But there was no answer, it was just… darkness…
Impmon felt like he was sinking, getting colder, and all he could think of was how Reiner couldn't do this alone. What would he have? A few rocks? That beam would destroy him. He just wanted to protect his human.
Finally… Impmon heard something. "I-It should have been me-!" That was definitely Reiner, he sounded… broken… He sounded like he was about to start crying. Impmon had to get to him! Had to help him! Save him!
He could hear another voice, maybe… Gary? He didn't care about that one though, all he cares about was getting back to Reiner before anything else could hurt him. "I ain't afraid of you!" Reiner once more! Please!
Impmon could feel Reiner's sadness, his grief, his pain. He had to fix this! Had to fix this now! He felt… something snap, but not in a bad way. No, something snapped into place, and Impmon felt something MORE again.
He felt like there were waves of strength pouring through him, and he felt himself changing. Everything went white, his body stretching and changing. His eyes shot open only to see a beam headed straight for Reiner. Everything felt like it was in slow motion as he moved. A sword he hadn't had a moment ago was in his hand… no… it WAS his hand, and he jumped in front of his human, cutting the beam in half before it could reach him.
He knew his name was now different… Impmon was no longer who he was… No, he was Duskmon now. "I-Impmom…" he heard from behind him, "Is that you?" Duskmon could hear the disbelief edging on hope in Reiner's voice. He was proud to no longer sense grief within his human.
Duskmon turned slightly to look back at him, "I'm no longer Impmon," his voice was deeper and scratchier now, it was strange in a way, "I am Duskmon!"
All that he could think was, 'Stay back, Reiner, I gotcha…' He still felt like his old self, but there was MORE to him now. Duskmon knew this power was from Reiner, could see the light pouring from his pocket. "This power," he spoke almost in disbelief himself, "you were the one to give it to me! Yes?" He looked down at Reiner, vaguely noticing he was now larger than his human…
"I guess? D-Did you say your name was Duskmon?" Oh, how he had missed his human, his voice. His annoying questions. Duskmon didn't want to ever be weakened like that again. Never wanted to be so out of touch with the world. He was stronger now, and he could protect his person. "Indeed," was his answer.
Reiner seemed to be grasping this rather well, "That's- That's- Thas… kinda edgy dude." He sounded like he was going to say something meaningful or heartfelt, and then he just finished with that. C'mon! Duskmon had just died! Why did he want to protect this human so badly again?!
"No it's not," Duskmon's answer was instant, not a moment to waste. The little argument went on longer than he'd have liked. He didn't choose his name or how he looked! He didn't choose his voice! He wasn't edgy, this was just his next form!
"It's good to see that you're back though, alright… Let's finish what we started." Reiner glared at the firewall, and Duskmon turned to do the same. "I'll show you what the power you've given me can be done with!"
Duskmon crossed both hand-swords before swinging them down quickly to create a double arc, spitting out the name of the attack as always since he couldn't help it. A blast of energy shot forward into the central crack that had been forming and the entire firewall shattered completely.
Duskmon ignored everything around him to turn once more to Reiner. He phased over to him, no one else noticing he had moved and he lifted Reiner to his feet. He was careful there with his since he no longer has real hands, but he checked Reiner over for any serious injuries before he finally calmed. He wanted to wrap Reiner in a hug, but that seemed to far. Sinking into his new form mentally, and finally found peace now that the danger was gone. He would see where this took him, and he would roll with it no matter what. So long as he could keep his human safe. Whether he be Impmon, Duskmon, or someone else. All that mattered was Reiner's safety.
