Work Text:

You’re standing in front of the Great Hall double doors when you suddenly realize, this is it. Your final year.

Ever since everything that happened with Ranrok and Rookwood, your time at Hogwarts had seemed to pass like a blur. Your classroom assignments were child’s play compared to everything else you’d been through- so a lot of the time you liked to sneak out into the Forbidden Forest to hunt poachers and the sort.

You never went alone, sometimes letting Poppy tag along- but your favorite partner?

Sebastian Sallow.

Ever since everything that happened with his uncle, the two of you had only grown closer. Of course, initially there was a lot of healing to be done- apologies and promises spilled from the boy constantly for a good month or so after you’d decided not to turn him in. And of course, there were the bad nights too. The nights when he’d find his way to your arms and sob into your robes while you thread your hands through his hair.

Ominis and Anne...they took a little longer to come around. But you? You just couldn’t hate him. As much as you hated to admit it, the boy had found his way into your heart.

His lopsided grin, his constellation of freckles, his brown puppy eyes, his fiercely protective but caring nature. All of him. You’re obsessed with all of him.

And it sure didn’t help that he’d somehow had a growth spurt over the summer.

Buried in your thoughts, you don’t notice that Sebastian has been standing in front of you waving his hand in your face- leaning down to come face to face with you. That was new.

You slap his hands away, eliciting a chuckle from the boy.

“Nice of you to finally join us,” he says, cocking his head to the side as he looks down at you.

For a second all you can do is stare, mentally trying to process how the fuck he managed to get so much taller in one summer. You feel a heat crawling up the back of your neck at the new angle. Shit.

“Uh oh. Ominis- I think we lost them again.”
“Oh shut up Sebastian,” you scoff, rolling your eyes.

“There’s the Y/N I know and love,” he coos, causing you to elbow him as Ominis stifles a chuckle.

“Now now you two, can this not wait until after the headmaster’s speech,” he comments with faux annoyance.

Ominis knew you had a thing for Seb, insisting you should just shoot your shot, and that he was certain  he’d reciprocate. But, you never hesitated to remind him that the fear of losing your dearest friend was more terrifying than any hoard of goblins you’d faced.

Unfortunately, the three of you were somewhat late- so seating was sparse. You end up sat relatively far away from the two boys after you enter the hall- but through the crowd of students, you catch Sebastian’s eye. He waves at you, sporting that lopsided grin that made your heart flutter.

God you were so fucked for the rest of the year.

Somehow, Sebastian had convinced you to join him on another illicit trip to the restricted section later that night. He’d argued that it was for “old time’s sake”, completely brushing you off when you brought up the fact that the last time you’d done this, Sebastian had been caught.

But of course, he knew how to work you. That’s why you were here, stood at the top of the staircase in the same spot he’d been waiting for you in your fifth year. The way he’d been leaning languidly with his elbows on the banister, staring at you with curious eyes.

Suddenly, a pair of warm hands grabs your waist from behind, causing you to yelp and spin around.

“Sebastian,” you hiss.

“That is my name, yes,” the aforementioned boy drawls, fighting a shit-eating grin.

“You scared me,” you whisper, aware of the prefects standing just below the banister.

“That was the goal-”

“That’s it. I’m going to bed.”

“No-” he whisper-shouts, grabbing a hold of your forearm as you pretend to leave.

Something about the way he’s looking at you with those eyes...Your knees feel weak at how he’s silently begging you to stay. His grip softens, but his pleading gaze doesn’t falter. He takes a step towards you- and from this new angle and his insufferable growth-spurt, you have to tilt your head upwards to keep eye contact.

“I’m sorry,” he mumbles, the close proximity allowing you to feel his warm breath on your face, causing a shiver to shoot down your spine.

“It’s- it’s fine. I was just messing with you,” you manage to stutter out- a sudden knowing glint appearing in the boy’s eyes as he picks up on your nervousness.

After a moment of the two of you just staring at each other, Sebastian steps back and begins explaining the plan to you as if nothing happened.

Cast disillusionment, sneak in, retrieve some books, sneak out. Simple enough.

It was in fact, not simple.

The two of you stood, like a pair of deer in headlights, between the bookshelves of the restricted section. Frozen still with wide eyes, you’d both heard the clicking of the librarian’s shoes getting progressively louder and louder. She was definitely heading towards you.

Dropping your books to the floor gently, you look into Sebastian’s eyes with desperation- praying he had an idea on how to get you out of this situation. You were not getting detention on your first day back.

Suddenly, something must click, because Sebastian grabs your right arm and pulls you across the room. You’re heading towards a desk, and you’re utterly confused- that is until Sebastian (rather rudely) shoves you under the desk, clambering to join you.

Now, as you can imagine, a desk is not made for two almost-adults to hide under. It was extremely cramped.

You’re leaning back against one side of the desk, resting on the palms of your hands that are set next to your waist- legs spread to accommodate Sebastian.

Who is  between your legs.

He’s resting on one knee placed between your bent legs- both his hands sat just an inch away from your own, being forced to lean forwards to avoid bumping his head against the desk. The two of you don’t speak in fear of getting caught, the only thing audible being the soft, quick breaths escaping as the two of you battle the adrenaline surging through your veins. You’re fighting a blush, and by the looks of it, so is he. It wasn’t exactly easy to hide when your faces are less than 3 inches from each other.

The librarian’s footsteps are getting louder, and you’re starting to panic. As you begin to freak out, your breathing quickens- becoming louder. Sebastian shoots a frown at you, flicking his eyes between your mouth and your eyes as if to tell you to shut up.

With no signs of you quietening down, he does something you can’t quite fully process.

He clamps a hand over your mouth.

You instantly forget to breathe, the feeling of his slender fingers pressing against your mouth overriding any and all thoughts. All you can do is stare into his eyes, and you find a glimmer of something...curious beneath the surface. It's as if he’s as surprised as you at his action- but he seems to be enjoying it a little more than you’d like.

He cocks his head to the side, suddenly biting back a smug grin with his bottom lip caught between his teeth. You’re not sure whether the adrenaline causing your heart to thump out of your chest is from the fear of getting caught, or the way he then drags his eyes down your body, bringing them back up to settle on his hand pressed to your lips.

As if by instinct, your legs widen ever so slightly, but it’s enough for Sebastian to notice. He flicks his eyes back up to your own, raising an eyebrow. After a pause, he raises his other hand, tentatively moving to place it on your chest- feeling for your rapid heartbeat.

That bastard , he was so totally getting off on how nervous you were right now. His hand burns through your robes, setting your skin alight despite the material separating his skin from your own.

Fuck it.

You slowly raise one of your hands, placing it on top of the one on your chest. His eyes widen, seeming uncharacteristically flustered as you begin to pull his hand down your torso. Just as his palm settles on your hip and his hooded eyes meet your own- the two of you hear the click of the librarian’s office door, causing you to abruptly pull apart. He knocks his head on the desk doing so, immediately breaking the thick tension that had been suffocating you a second ago as you burst into giggles that you try to muffle with your hands.

“Ouch?” he states, fighting back his own laughter with rose tinted cheeks. You join him in his laughter, the two of you taking turns to shush the other in fear of attracting the librarian’s attention again.

Once you both calm down, you silently agree that you should probably get going- abandoning the books you had attempted to smuggle out earlier. Casting disillusionment, you both sneak back out the way you came in.

It’s when you’re lying in bed that night when you truly realize just how tightly Sebastian has you wound around his finger. Thinking about the events from earlier under that desk has your stomach doing flips, your heart fighting to break through your chest as you recall the feeling of his hooded eyes raking over your form.

Little did you know, Sebastian was currently having his own “realizations” in his bed too.
