Work Text:
Lazily going in the direction of the kitchen, Sully stretched a bit, yawning and brushing off the remains of sleep, trying to wake up a little more. Yesterday he and Nate had quite a celebration after they managed to steal an ancient map from one rich man during his private party. The idiot didn’t even know what was in his possession, not like it mattered anymore, the map was theirs now.
Neither of them didn’t manage to look at the acquired priceless piece of old paper, too busy rejoicing their luck, forgetting everything and everyone around them.
Poor Tony, he definitely didn’t need to listen and at some point, see what was happening at the backseats of the car while he was driving Sully and Nate back to the man’s apartment. Someone for sure would get a rise soon.
So, yeah, not Sully nor Nate managed to have a glimpse at the map, being too busy with each other, and when they finally were satisfied, the sun was already raising and the both of them were just too tired to get out of the bed, postponing the study of the new clue till the morning.
They didn’t really get much sleep, but it was a small price for the wild night Sully had with his dearest boyfriend.
Entering the kitchen, Sully heard some pop song playing in the background and then stopped dead in his tracks, feeling a familiar warmth spreading in his chest as he saw Nate. The younger man had nothing but a snow-white bathroom towel tightly wrapped around his hips, his chestnut hair was damp, and a few water drops still were glistering on his toned body, indicating that he had only recently exited the shower.
Sully was hypnotised by his beauty.
Nate still did not notice the presence of another person as he continued to prepare breakfast for the two. Blueberry pancakes – Sully’s favourite. As the younger man reached for the whipping cream to top the pile of perfectly done pancakes, the man decided that it was time to announce his presence.
“Morning, kid,” he greeted his boyfriend, making his way toward him.
Apparently not expecting this, Nate squeaked, jumping a little spinning in the process to face the intruder, whipping cream spraying all over his hand.
“Sully, you don’t do this,” the younger man complained, looking at his boyfriend with a pout on his plump lips.
“Do what?” Sully asked with a sly smile on his face, leaning into Nate’s personal space, as he braced himself on the kitchen island, trapping the younger man between it and his body. Being so close to his boyfriend allowed him to see how Nate’s pupils dilated. “What do you have here, huh?” he asked, gently taking the covered-in-whipping cream hand of his lover and bringing it closer to his face.
Nate smirked, accepting the game they were playing.
“Just the spilled topping for the pancakes,” he shrugged, following with his eyes as Sully slowly moved the covered in cream fingers to his soft lips.
Not breaking eye contact the man without rush run the tip of his tongue over Nate’s index and middle fingers, licking the sweet substance, before taking them fully into his mouth. He sucked gently on the fingers, feeling Nate’s breath hitch.
“Sweet,” the man whispered after releasing now clean fingers, yet, not letting go of Nate’s hand. “But you are sweeter,” he added, and with that crossed the distance between their faces, capturing Nate’s lips in a hungry kiss.
Parting his lips almost immediately, the younger man moaned lowly, allowing Sully’s tongue to explore his mouth. The man couldn’t help but smile at the thought of how eager the younger man was to respond to the kiss. Carefully he pushed Nate back, pressing him to the kitchen island, hands roaming over his boyfriend's almost naked body, as he kissed him like there was no tomorrow.
After some minutes of the heavy make-out session, Nate broke the kiss, trying to catch his breath.
“Hey-hey, I made breakfast, you know?” he rasped, his voice filled with lust, as the man continued to cover his skin with kisses. “We, nedda, we need to eat,” the younger man continued, throwing his head back to give Sully the opportunity to mark his neck, moaning out loud as the man did exactly that.
In one quick motion, Sully tugged at the towel covering Nate’s hips, letting it fall on the ground. Not looking down, the man moved his hands past the younger man’s firm ass, and without any effort lifted his boyfriend onto the kitchen counter.
“Forget about the food, kid, you are my breakfast,” Sully muttered, reconnecting their lips in another heated kiss full of passion.
Spreading his legs, Nate allowed his boyfriend to move closer to him and place his hands on his knees, which let them feel more of each other, as the younger man crossed his ankles behind his boyfriend’s back. Sully once again moved with his kisses lower, sucking new marks on the pale neck of his partner, while Nate’s hands moved into the man’s short dark hair.
“Sully,” Nate moaned in a deep voice, as the man’s hands moved way higher from his knees. “Sully, Sully, Sully,” the younger man continued so out of breath it was intoxicating, Sully felt as if his head was spinning when Nate’s voice began to fade.
“Sully!” Nate suddenly shouted and the man jolted awake, straightening upon a chair he was sitting on before he fell asleep.
Breathing heavily, Sully looked around trying to understand what the heck just happened. He was sitting in his living room, and here on the wooden table was a plan of the house, which belongs to some rich asshole, Sully and Nate were planning to rob in a few days during his privately held party. It was daytime, based on how bright the room was, and the man most likely fall asleep during his attempts to memorise the house plan.
One of two things became clear as day.
It was just a dream.
The second thing was that after this dream Sully was painfully hard in his sweatpants.
And then all this situation became a thousand times worse… Because no one other than Nathan Drake was standing not even two feet behind his back.
How fucking awesome.
“Hi, kid,” he greeted the younger man, raising his hand and waving with his fingers at him. “How long have you been here?” Sully asked, trying to sound nonchalant while at the same time tugging at the end of his t-shirt trying and failing to cover up his... situation.
Nate being the sainted man Sully know he is, had his head tilted up, avoiding looking at the man.
“You were moaning in your sleep,” the younger man started, fiddling a little with his fingers as he spoke. “I was sleeping on the couch, since I stayed last night here, and you woke me up,” Nate continued, still not looking at the man in front of him and instead finding the ceiling extremely interesting. “I thought you had a nightmare, so I wanted to wake you, and that’s when, you know,” Nate made an uncertain gesture with his hand like it was explaining what he meant.
Not like Sully wanted the younger man to finish this sentence. Now the reason why Nate was making such a big deal of it became clearer. Victor knew that Nate was far away from virgin, he knew that Nate had sex before, both giving and receiving, and obviously had seen other men naked. However, the situation right now was awkward, not because Nate saw how turned-on Sully was, but because he was the one who interrupted him, the one who woke him up, which for him was equivalenting to seeing Sully doing the devil’s tango with someone else or solo.
“Uh-huh,” Sully hummed, trying to sound unaffected by this whole situation even though he was dying from the embarrassment. “Yeah, not really a nightmare, huh?” the man tried to joke, but the tension in the room became even more awkward.
Sully could see that Nate wanted to say something, he clearly wasn’t telling him everything, but the second their eyes met, the younger man became flustered.
“I wanted to take a shower, but I guess you need it more right now,” Nate pointed out and his cheeks turned even more red. “I will go make breakfast, you want something particular?” the younger man asked, finally moving in the direction to exit the room.
‘You’ almost left Sully’s mouth and he felt a new wave of arousal running down his body.
What the fuck was that?
Taking a deep breath, the man closed his eyes and responded.
“Anything that does not include whipping cream on top of it,” he muttered, cursing at the images from his dream that started to pop up in his mind.
He did not see it but heard as Nate inhaled sharply before whispering a quiet ‘okay’ and left the room.
When Sully heard as the kitchen door was closed behind the younger man, the man run in the direction of the bathroom.
He has a problem he needed to deal with after all.
***
It’s been three days since Sully’s fiasco that morning, and the man wished he could say that everything was back to normal… but it wasn’t.
Now, all this was so awkward between the two of them. That morning while Nate was preparing breakfast, and Sully had to take care of his problem, the man has never felt more ashamed in his entire life.
Especially, since he had to spend twenty minutes in the shower trying to think of any filthy scenario in his head to speed up the process, yet it wasn’t helping until he accidentally didn’t think of Nate at the kitchen preparing breakfast…
He hasn’t even lasted for a minute after that.
And, yeah, that was embarrassing for him, but he wasn’t as concerned about this as he probably should be. No, instead, all his focus was on the fact that in his dream he was with Nate. With Nathan fucking Drake! A man who is twenty years younger than him. A man whom Sully saw as a friend and a friend only! A man with whom Sully does not have any romantic feelings.
They were friends. Just friends, so, Sully had no idea where this stupid dream came from. Of course, Nate was sweet and cute, he was smart and so talented, also he was hot as hell, and so happen to be as obsessed with treasure hunting as Sully was. Let’s not forget that Nate could make the world’s best cocktails because Sully never tasted more delicious drinks than the one Nate made.
Nate was good, great even. He would be a perfect boyfriend, and Sully was sure of it.
Just not his boyfriend.
Because Victor Sullivan does not have a feeling for Nathan Drake.
End of discussion.
So, yeah, the last three days were a living hell for Sully.
After his dream, he felt so uncomfortable around Nate. Every move the younger man was making was immediately assumed to be a try to hit on him. Every look Nate was giving him, was sending a burning hot wave through his body. And let’s not forget this smirk, this smirk Nate has played on his alluring plump lips, which in his dream were so sweet and soft, it was like Nate knew everything Sully dreamed of that morning.
It was driving Victor mentally. He can’t remember when he was that stressed for the last time in his life.
Now when his hand would brush over Nate’s, he would blush like a freaking teenager. If he catches that the younger man is looking at him, he will feel as if his heart would skip a beat. Sully would mess up words while talking to Nate, would make a complete fool of himself, and all this just because of one stupid dream.
A dream of his best friend.
And Sully was sick of it.
For some reason, today his brain refused to think about anything other than Nate. He woke up thinking of him and had breakfast still with thoughts about his younger friend. Shower, work, lunch, all his thoughts were dedicated to Nate, no matter where he was and what he was doing.
During those last days, Sully was trying so hard not to let all this affect their friendship, but he literally was feeling his eye twisting from all this pressure he was putting himself into.
Be damned this stupid dream.
Sully was supposed to focus on the details of the house plan, yet the only thing which was on his mind was how great it would be to taste those alluring lips, he dreamed of, in real life.
It was frustrating.
And irritating.
A knock at the door snapped him back from his misery. Yet, only for a second because a moment later Nathan Drake entered the room, looking ridiculously good in his pastel purple baggy t-shirt and a pair of black pants.
No one should look that good in such simple clothes.
Sully nearly groaned at how handsome Nate looked today.
What the hell was wrong with him!?
It was going out of hand and the man must fix it and fast!
“Hey, Sully, are you busy?” Nate asked, entering the room, and interrupting the man’s train of thoughts.
Victor once again looked at the younger man, apart from his usual cuteness Nate also looked quite nervous, he was biting at his lower lip, avoiding looking Sully in the eyes and he was crumbling some piece of paper in his hands.
Huh, strange.
“For you? Never, kid,” Sully chuckled, trying to ignore how his heart was ready to jump out of his chest.
Nate smiled shyly, and with a deep breath, began to talk again.
“I wanted to talk to you about something,” he announced, briefly looking at the man and then down at his hands with a paper.
Sully had a bad feeling regarding all this. Nate couldn’t possibly know what was in his dream, right?
Right?
“Oh?” the man asked, his throat going dry.
“Yeah,” Nate smiled, and bite at his lower lip again. “You see, I, well, since a woke you up that morning, I, you know that you were moaning my name, right?” Nate asked and Sully felt as if a bucket of cold water was overthrown over him.
So that is what Nate did not say to him that morning.
“I did?” Sully squeaked, feeling as his face started to heat up.
“Yeah,” Nate smiled, and Sully think he can actually faint right now. He clearly needed to talk to Nate and apologize, saying that all this was a huge misunderstanding and that he hoped they can forget about it. “So it got me thinking that maybe-”
Whatever Nate was planning on saying next was interrupted by the man’s rant.
“Oh my God, kid, I’m so sorry!” Sully groaned, running his hand over his face making Nate snap his mouth shut and look at him in confusion. “I swear, I have no idea why I dreamt of you, really!” he started, knowing damn well that it was better to admit everything since he finally decided to speak up. “Why I dreamt of fucking you to be exact,” the man added, hiding his face in his hands for a moment and missing the look Nate had in his eyes. Chuckling a bit desperately, Sully let the stress of the last few days take the better of him. “Like, I don’t even see you this way, I don’t love you, and why would I? Where are you and where is me? Right? This is ridiculous, this is just so stupid, you’re Sam’s brother! I’m sorry I had a dream of you, I wish I never had because this was just disgusting, and I just really hope that we can forget about this and move on,” the man finished in one breath and finally looked at the younger man.
He expected to see Nate grossed out by him, expected to see pure disgust on the younger man’s face, and even expected that Nate would laugh at him. Because it really was ridiculous. There couldn’t be even a thought about them dating. Nate was everything a good life can offer, and Sully was everything Nate doesn’t need in his.
Sully expected to see a lot of things written on the younger man's face. Starting from disgust and ending with hate. That’s why he was so surprised to see Nate froze in his place, with his eyes a bit glassy and with a hint of tears collecting at the bottom lids.
That’s when Sully’s eyes fell on the piece of paper in the younger man’s hands.
“Nate?” Sully called again, reaching his hand to take the paper.
That for sure snapped the younger man back to reality. Quickly shaking his head, Nate made a hesitant step back and pulled out the most broken smile Sully had ever seen.
“Yeah, you’re right that’s just ridiculous,” Nate chuckled wetly, and with shaking, hands tried to put the piece of paper in his hands into the pocket of his pants. The key word is ‘tried’ because he failed miserably when this paper didn’t go where intended and instead fall on the floor.
The younger man didn’t notice that at first and that was all hesitation Sully needed.
Because something was definitely wrong.
As he bent over to pick up the note, Nate tried to stop him and snatch the paper out of the man’s hands.
“Sully, don’t!” he shouted, pressing into the man’s personal space and trying to get to his note. “Don’t read this, please,” the younger man pleaded, but Sully wasn’t listening.
He needed to know what upset Nate so much, and whatever that was it most likely was in this note.
“Come on, kid, calm down,” the man said, pressing Nate to his body back to chest and wrapping one hand around him to stop the younger man from trying to steal this piece of paper back.
Nate didn’t stop struggling until after a minute after Sully unwrapped the note and began to read. The younger man pleaded to not read it but knew that now it was pointless.
‘Sully, I wanted to talk to you today because I feel like this is worth discussing. A few days ago, when I woke you up, before that, you were moaning my name, at first, I thought that you had a nightmare but then I knew that it really wasn’t. I’m not here to humiliate you or anything, I’m here because all this got me thinking. You see… I am in love with you, here I said that, I love you with my whole heart, love you more than I thought it was possible, but I was just so afraid to screw up our friendship and confess this to you. You are amazing, talented, and a very smart man, and even though I’m still scared to say that to you, but after all that… Maybe you could find it in your heart to like me back? I really hope that maybe we can go on a date. Maybe this Sunday? But there is absolutely no pressure we can just pretend that this never happened, and I never said anything, just, please, let me down slowly, gently, I can take it, just, please, don’t cross me out of your life…’
Sully felt as if he couldn’t breathe, he simply couldn’t wrap in his mind what he read a minute ago, the room was spinning, or maybe it was just in his head… right now it didn’t matter…
Because Nathan Drake was shaking in his arms… Because Nathan Drake was in love with him and Sully broke, ruthlessly broke his heart, laughing in his face at the idea of being with him.
Sully didn’t just reject him without sugarcoating it, no, he actually said that he is disgusted by the idea of them being together. He said that to the man, to Nate, who was in love with him and based on what he had read Nate was in love with him for some time.
How on earth he is going to fix it now?
As his mind worked a thousand miles per second, he didn’t even notice that he eased his grip on the younger man, and it was enough for Nate to break free and make a few steps away from him.
If Sully thought he felt bad after what he read, it became a hundred times worse when he saw how miserable Nate looked at him, when the younger man turned to face Sully.
Nate was hugging himself, wrapping his hands around his waist as if he tried to seek at least a little bit of comfort. His face was inhumanly red, most likely the result of how humiliated he was feeling right now, and his eyes… God, Sully wished he never saw that… Nate’s beautiful honey eyes were filled with so much pain, such a raw emotional pain, Sully wanted to strangle himself for putting this look on the younger man’s face.
Before the man could speak up, Nate took a deep breath and outstripped him with talking.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, not looking Sully in the eyes but instead hypnotising the shoelaces of his boots. “I never wanted to mess up our friendship,” he added, and after a short pause raised his gaze on the man.
Sully wished he didn’t, because looking at Nate right now was unbearable, it was tearing Sully apart, yet he knew he deserved that. It wasn’t even close to how he made Nate feel.
“Kid,” the man started, not knowing what to say but knowing that he should say at least something.
“No, no! It’s fine!” Nate interrupted him, waving with his hands, silencing the man. “You are right, us together? This is ridiculous, I have no idea what I was thinking,” the younger man forced a laugh, but it was laced with so much pain, Sully physically winced. “I totally understand, I mean, you are you, you are so amazing and I, well, I’m just stupid,” with each word Nate’s voice started to go quieter and quieter so the last part he practically whispered. “I just really hope we still can be friends.”
That last line broke something inside Sully, Did Nate really believe that after all this Sully will cross him out? Scratch that, did Nate really believe that he is the one who is not enough for Sully? Was he crazy!?
There were billions of things he hoped he could say to Nate right now, he wanted to cry, he wanted to scream that everything was fine, that it’s not what Sully really thinks and maybe they even would be cute together…
Wait, what?
Where did this come from?
Apparently, Sully was once again lost in his mind for way too long because Nate sensed the urge to fill up the silence, no doubt, accepting the absence of the response from the man as another rejection.
“I swear, Sully, I swear I will not try anything,” he assured the man, willing to take a step closer to Sully but at the last second deciding against it so it actually looked like he stumbled over nothing. Biting at his lower lip, Nate exhaled slowly, clearly gathering the courage of what he will say next. “But if you want me out, if you don’t want to do anything with me anymore, I can totally get it, I will go, just say a word,” he whispered, his eyes once again filling with tears.
At this point, Nate can just rip Sully’s heart out of his chest because even that wouldn’t be as painful as what those last words were doing to him.
Sully felt the lump in his throat growing as he had no idea how he managed to fuck up that much, how the hell did he let this situation happen. Of course, he fucking wanted Nate in his life, of course, he didn’t want Nate to go! Sully hated himself so much right now for putting all those stupid thoughts in the younger man’s mind.
“Kid, no, I,” he stammered, despising his inability to speak properly it was like his brain was refusing to work at all. Nate looked at him like he was waiting for the death sentence and Sully hated this even more. “Of course, I want you in my life, never say anything so stupid again, okay?” Sully finally said, but it came out so wrong and fake, even the man himself wasn’t believing in what he was saying.
Nate laughed humorlessly, turning his head to the side.
“I think, we’d already established that I’m stupid, huh?” he said, with a hint of a smile on his bite-swollen lips. “But I’m glad we still can be friends,” the younger man continued before Sully could say that it was not what he meant. Again. “I guess, I will go now, still need to prepare for the mission we have, so,” Nate trailed off, turning in the direction of the exit.
Sully still didn’t say anything. He simply couldn’t formulate one decent sentence, which will not cause even more damage to the younger man, and so he stayed silent.
Not getting any response, Nate finally left the apartment, leaving Sully alone with his thoughts. When the front door snapped shut behind the younger man, Sully felt as the room began to spin once again. He felt dizzy.
Gosh, did he really make Nate believe that he was disgusted by him? By the thought of them being together?
That was something that he needed to fix, and quickly because Sully just couldn’t allow Nate believed in this bullshit.
He just needed to go after him and fix all this, explain why he reacted that way.
Only even Sully didn’t know why he acted the way he did, why he said all those things even though he never meant them.
Instead of running after Nate, Sully poured himself a glass of fine whiskey and drowned it in one go immediately refilling the glass again.
He needed some time.
Sully has some serious thinking to make.
And a map to steal.
***
Their mission went without a hitch, and the map was in their possession now. Only it didn’t really matter to Sully anymore, his mind miles away from the treasures this map could bring them to…
Time did not help.
Not even slightly.
Nate true to his words didn’t bring anything up, not his feelings nor that bloody morning. And Sully should be happy, he really should be, because everything was back to normal. Leave it to Nate to hold the situation with a strong face, smiling and still being kind to Sully even after all those things the man told him.
After Sully broke his heart, at the same time humiliating the idea of being with Nate.
Unreasonably.
Because even though Nate still visited him every other day, still stayed the same friendly history nerd Sully knew he was, still smiled at him when their eyes would meet, Sully still noticed the difference.
Nate visited him, but never stayed the night, he was friendly but kept the distance, never standing too close to Sully, never ‘accidentally’ touching his hand while reaching for something or finding an excuse to get into Sully’s personal space, and yeah, Nate still smiled whenever their eyes met, only now instead of warmness and adoration his magnificent honey eyes were filled with pain and regret.
Sully couldn’t believe he was that blind.
He couldn’t believe how oblivious he was to all those little things Nate was doing, slowly opening his heart to the man only to get it shattered in return. And now Sully couldn’t help but miss all this, all those ‘accidents’ all those ‘coincidences’, because…
Because in a week after the incident, Sully figured out one simple truth. One simple truth why his mind gave him such an explicit vision of Nate in his dream.
Why Sully was always so happy when Nate stayed the night at his and in the morning they had breakfast together, why his once stone heart skipped a beat whenever Nate would touch his hand or just would be close enough to smell his aftershave, why every time Nate smiled Sully felt like the world became brighter…
Victor Sullivan was in love with Nathan Drake, and it took him the biggest fuck up in his life to figure that out.
And now it was up to him to make everything better.
If only he knew how to make it better…
***
Another week later Sully noticed that Nate started to spend less time with him. The younger man began avoiding him, and Sully couldn’t help but be scared.
What if… what if he is now too late to make everything better? What if he hurt Nate so much that now Nate wasn’t willing to be in his company?
Sully couldn’t lose Nate now, not when he had just figured out that he loves the younger man. And yeah, that was selfish, but Sully never was a saint.
Done with being a coward, Sully made a decision to act on his feelings and finally talk to Nate and confess everything, explain why he acted the way he did, and pray for a chance.
That is the reason why he on Friday night was making Tony drive to some club in New York center because that’s where this app Nate downloaded him in Barcelona was showing him the younger man was.
The club wasn’t really fashionable, just a regular club, so the man was surprised that Nate would be there. Considering the fact that Nate wasn’t really a type of going to the club in general.
Inside the club was even less impressive. Loud pop music, darkness lit with coloured lights, bartenders preparing some drinks, and a bunch of tipsy people on the dance floor.
And Nate.
Nate who was in the middle of this dance floor. A dark short-sleeved shirt with some red and white exotic flowers were hugging his firm chest in all right places, showing his collarbones thanks to those first buttons popped open, the black pants the younger man had on should be illegal because the way they were accenting the younger man’s ass was making Sully all hot and uncomfortable in his jeans.
The fact that Nate was dancing wasn’t helping at all. If anything, it was making this situation so much worse for Sully, making him distracted and quite turned on by the sight.
Nate looked gorgeous, and Sully has big trouble looking away from him. Based on the hungry looks some men and even women had on the younger man, Sully wasn’t the only one.
And he wanted to strangle every one of them for daring to look at his Nate.
Completely oblivious to whatever was happening around him, the younger man processed to dance as the new song began to play.
Sully himself had no idea how it is possible to dance with this kind of music although Nate definitely has no problem with that. Swinging his hips with the beat of the song, the younger man slowly run his hands from his hips to his chest, playing with the collar of the shirt a little before raising his hands higher up in the air.
If Sully thought, he was turned on before, he definitely was not prepared to see Nate like this.
Drawing with his hips an infinity sign, Nate brought his hands down, running with his fingers through his chestnut hair, messing them even more. Pure bliss was well written on the younger man’s face as he continued to move with a song.
The light was perfect, the song was perfect... Nate was perfect.
Sully wanted to enjoy the show the younger man put just a little bit longer and then they would talk, however, his plan crashed the moment some dark-haired man in his mid-forties step up on the dance floor and made his way to Nate.
The nameless man shamelessly entered Nate’s personal space from behind, possessively putting his hands on the younger man’s hips and leaning closer said something to Nate.
Sully wished he could break those hands which dare to touch the younger man, no, he wished he could break this man in general.
No one touches Nate and lives another day, Sully will make sure of it.
To the man’s horror, Nate didn’t put some distance between him and the nameless bastard, no, instead he continued dancing, smiling at whatever bullshit this man was telling him.
Sully had a sudden urge to punch something. Preferably this man’s face.
For some moments Victor was simply following with his eyes as Nate was dancing in the man’s arms, he tried to calm down and not let jealousy overtake his mind.
The moment this bastard moved his hands from Nate’s hips, placing one under the younger man’s shirt and with another moved lower to the zipper of his black pants, pressing Nate even closer to his body, Sully saw red.
No more waiting around.
Crossing the dance floor, Sully stopped only when he was less than feet away from the pair. Nate’s eyes were closed as he threw his head back on the shoulder of this bastard, the asshole himself was pressing himself against the younger man. Sully didn’t really have a plan, but when he saw all this so close, he did the first thing that came up to his mind.
He literally ripped Nate out of the grip of the quite shocked man and made a few steps away from him.
“Sully, what the hell!” Nate shouted clearly unhappy with such a turn of events, trying to break free from the man’s hold on his wrist.
Not turning back, Sully continued to move to the exit of this club and responded, over shouting the music.
“We need to talk,” he said, finally reaching the door.
“I don’t want to talk to you!” Nate announced, pushing Sully in the chest to put some distance between them. “I want to go back and dance!” the younger man continued angrily.
Sully had only one idea of how to change Nate’s mind, he hoped it would work.
Sharply tugging at the hand of the younger man, Sully made Nate nearly fall on him. Shocking as to what was happening Nate didn’t have time to react when the man’s hand did cup his cheek and Sully smashed their lips together in a desperate kiss.
Victor hoped that Nate would respond to the kiss, that this would be their turning point, hearts on the table, no hidden feelings anymore…
But it wasn’t like this.
Not only Nate did not respond to the kiss, no, the second Sully pulled back a bit, his head tilted to the side and his cheek began to burn.
Okay, the slap he definitely did not expect.
Bringing his hand to rub at the abused cheek, Sully looked at Nate. The younger man’s eyes were full of rage and hate, and he breathed heavily as he hissed.
“I hate you.”
With that he quickly moved past stunned Sully, walking out of the club.
The shock lasted for some seconds before the man turned to run after Nate. This chance he will not give up.
“Nate, wait!” Sully shouted as he saw the younger man’s figure storming away from where Sully was.
“Leave me alone, asshole!” Nate responded in a loud voice, not turning around.
Jogging to him, Sully stepped in front of the younger man, not letting him go any farther.
“Kid, please, let me explain,” Sully pleaded, raising both of his hands in the peace offering.
Snorting humorlessly, Nate turned his head to the side and crossed his hands over his chest.
“Explain?” he repeated, still not looking at the man. “Yeah, please, explain what the fuck was that? The hell you kissed me?” the younger man asked, anger dripping from each word. “Breaking my heart just once wasn’t enough, and you decided to play some more?” he continued with the questions, voice filled with hate and pain.
Sully felt sick.
How could Nate think this way? It was clear as day that the man must not fuck up this chance to explain and confess everything because based on how pissed off Nate was right now, Sully would be surprised if the younger man will ever talk to him again, this conversation went in the wrong direction.
“Kid, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry for everything,” he started, but Nate only rolled his eyes at this.
“You are forgiven,” with that Nate made an attempt to step around Sully and leave, only the man had other plans.
Grabbing Nate’s hand as the younger man passed by him, Sully pushed him slightly to the side, so now Nate was sandwiched between Sully’s body and the brick wall. Bracing his hands against the wall on each side of Nate’s head, Sully had him in an improvised trap, hoping that now Nate will listen to him.
“I swear to God, kid, I’m sorry,” Sully whispered, and something in his tone made Nate look him in the eyes, anger melting within seconds. “I’m so sorry for putting you through such pain, I never wanted to cause you any pain,” the man shook his head, his eyes fixed on Nate’s honey ones.
Chewing inside his cheek Nate clearly was searching for any hints that Sully wasn’t serious yet came up with none.
“Why aren’t you letting me get over you?” the younger man responded in the same whisper. “I want so hard for our friendship to survive my dumb feelings-” before he could say more, Sully interrupted him, cupping his cheek with his hand.
This time Nate didn’t try to break the touch.
“Your feelings are not dumb, far from it,” he assured the younger man, feeling as if his heart was breaking when he saw how much pain he put Nate into.
Shaking his head, the younger man closed his eyes.
“Why aren’t you letting me get over you?” he repeated his question, throwing his head back slightly, hitting it with the wall behind. “I don’t want to wreck our friendship, I just want to get over you, why you are not letting me?” the younger man whispered brokenly, and a first tear fall from his lashes.
It was now or never because Sully couldn’t let Nate suffer anymore.
“I don’t want you to get over me, kid,” Sully whispered back, pressing his forehead to Nate’s, feeling as the younger man’s breath hitched. “I don’t want to because I love you,” he added before Nate would stop him or break free. “And I’m an idiot because it took me all this time to understand this,” he chuckled desperately, caressing with his thumb Nate’s cheekbone. “You don’t have to forgive me for how I acted, for what I said but, kid, I love you,” he finished, shaking with nerves as he waited for the response.
Nate stayed silent, and if it wasn’t for how close they were, the man wouldn’t be even sure if he was breathing. Tears were running down his face as Nate slowly opened his eyes. He looked so small and broken, his eyes were filled with disbelief as he looked at Sully, and that was heartbreaking.
“I thought I ruined our friendship with my feelings,” Nate admitted carefully, and Sully felt as his heart clench in his chest. “You were so scared and disgusted by the thought of being with me, I thought that-” whatever Nate was going to say, was once again interrupted by the man.
“I’m so sorry, I swear, I’m so sorry, I wish I could change that,” Sully said, hating himself for what he made Nate believe in. “I was just so scared of my own feelings, confusing them with some shit, it messed with my head so much, but, kid, I swear, I never meant it like that,” he continued, hoping Nate could find it in his heart to forgive Sully. “Dating you would be a dream come true, literally. Cause in my dream we were together, and I was so happy about that. Kid, you are amazing and such a wonderful person, I don’t deserve you, but I never was a saint man so I’m telling you, I love you, and I hope, you could still love me back,” the last sentence he literally breathed out, feeling so exposed right now, as he never felt before.
Slowly, Nate’s hand came to the man’s cheek, as he mirrored Sully’s touch.
“I still love you, Sully,” the younger man whispered, and it was like a breath of fresh air after being underwater. “And I still want to be with you,” he added, and Sully couldn’t help a wide grin sneaking up on his face.
“I love you so much, kid,” the man said, leaning closer to Nate and connecting their lips in the second kiss.
This one though was gentle and sweet. Nate responded without hesitation, and Sully felt like he was in heaven. Being so close to the man he loved, kissing him, pressing him closer to his body, no, Sully didn’t need anything else.
They parted after some minutes but didn’t let go of each other. Both have such open happy smiles, feeling content and overfilled with emotions.
It was perfect.
Pressing Nate closer again, Sully hugged him, not willing to let go of the younger man.
“Let’s go home. Please?” the man asked, wanting nothing more but to be in his apartment with Nate by his side away from the cold autumn alley they were in, but instead get comfy on the couch and just hold each other.
Nodding, Nate put his head on the man’s shoulder, no doubt, also enjoying being so close to the man.
After Sully texted Tony to pick up them, they went hand in hand to the entrance of the club waiting for the driver.
They were silent, everyone was thinking of something when Nate suddenly spoke up.
“What were we doing in your dream by the way?” the younger man asked, pure curiosity well written on his face.
Some interesting parts of that dream immediately popped up in Sully’s mind, as the wave of arousal run through his body.
“Something I hope we will recreate soon,” he shrugged, trying to sound unaffected.
He for sure didn’t want to start repeating his dream in Tony’s car.
Although it was part of the dream too…
“Any hints?” Nate asked with a smile playing on his lips, as he no doubt knew what Sully’s dream was about and was teasing him now.
Accepting their game, Sully connected their lips in another kiss, this one though was much more slower and dirtier, leaving Nate breathless as he tilted his head to whisper into the younger man’s ear.
“Something unholy.”
