heeseung is the first to admit he is not a morning person. the members get on his ass all the time for his inability to wake up on time for the life of him, and he means that literally because he sleeps on his stomach and they sit on his lower back to repeatedly hit his head with whatever non-threatening item they have in hand(the other day it was sunoo, who grabbed riki's Curious George plushy to wack heeseung across the head).
but he tries to wake up on time, and he only does it for one reason, and that reason is most definitely not because of schedules or practice. he does it sit at the dinner table with his boyfriends in the morning. his boyfriends, unlike him, actually wake up at normal times. though jay needs to be smited to actually wake up and sunghoon constantly looks like he's seen a ghost when he wakes up in the morning, they're one of the first people to wake up other than jungwon, who is only awake out of obligation and habit built into him from school. jake is a wild card, his sleep schedule is flimsy depending how he feels, but he always wakes up before heeseung so it doesn't matter.
they hog the kitchen. the younger members take the living room in the morning after gathering what they need for breakfast, an unspoken divide amongst the two relationship factions that make up their group. kind of crazy how the older and younger members are dating their particular age group, like how did that happen? it doesn't matter because even though the kids have the couch, heeseung, sunghoon, and jake have jay, who makes them pancakes when he's in a good mood. it's a pretty big win in heeseung's books.
there's novelty in sitting with your lovers in the morning as well, because this is at their coziest state. when they're still tired from waking up, but coherent enough to talk with their gruff, but soft voices. when their eyes are half lidded and smiles are the loopiest. it's nice, the smell of sunghoon's coffee in the air while watching jake try his darnest to wake up, even though his head is still buried in his arms. he usually wakes up when jay places a plate in front of him and ruffles his hair, immediately perking up when jay joins them at the table. sunghoon would laugh and that would be another win in heeseung's books, because sunghoon's laughs are already light but when they're even more airy when he's still half into his dreams. it's so endearing to heeseung when sunghoon chuckles already, though heeseung is endeared by nearly everything he does, so when there that touch of sleep lingering in his laugh, reducing his laughter to soft ha's, heeseung can't help but kiss his knuckles.
jay portions out their pancakes and hands them their butter and syrup, smiling fondly as jake dumps a load of maple on his pancakes to override the death that is sunghoon's coffee. sunghoon does that sleepy laugh of his and heeseung breaks into a big smile, eating his pancakes with a little butter and syrup. jay watches them all take their bites first, a small habit he probably doesn't notice, but they all do and find him cute, before slathering his pancakes in syrup and eating. they talk, and that's another thing about mornings with your lovers, your conversations.
conversations in the morning are quiet, yet they're still as lively as they can be in the evening. jay loves talking, but his voice is toned down, volume occasionally rising when he gets particularly excited about what he's talking about. they all listen with fondness that can only be expressed in their eyes as they smile and nod along to every word jay says. in the beginning of their relationship, jay would catch himself and apologize but they would encourage him to speak more, and he would get flustered when he took a good look at their matching levels of adoration, their feelings spelled in bold on their faces.
when one of them would respond or giggle, jay's face just breaks into this beautiful smile and it gets heeseung's heart every time. you ever just feel your heart stop and then go 10x as fast after that moment? that's what heeseung feels. and he smiles so much because jake giggles so much. jake at any time of day is just so bright. maybe not the living sunshine levels of bright that is sunoo, but man is heeseung whipped. the sun doesn't rise until jake wakes up and the sun doesn't set until jake sleeps. sunghoon one time told him he thinks that the room darkens a tad when jake leaves it, as if he takes some of its light with him, and heeseung can't agree more. jake has this thing about him where no matter where he comes from or what time of day, he always looks like he bathed in sunshine and brought in some of its light.
their mornings end with everyone but jay playing rock paper scissors to see who does the dishes and sunghoon and heeseung lose, jay and jake running off with cheers meant to tease sunghoon and heeseung which pulls a sigh from them but they end up chuckling at the sound of their laughter, their happiness contagious. sunghoon gathers everything and brings it to the sink while heeseung puts away the syrup and butter, quickly sliding up to sunghoon to help wash the dishes.
they flick water at each other and sunghoon dots soap foam on heeseung's nose with a big grin that makes it impossible to get upset at him. heeseung tries to get back at him but sunghoon dodges with a yelp, leading the two of them fighting with suds lathered on their hands as weapons. they make a mess and have to wipe off soap off their face but they're laughing and sunghoon pinches off some extra soap still in heeseung's hair.
when they're done, they go find jay and jake, who were leaning against each other watching videos on jay's phone in their bedroom. they join them, jake opening his arms for heeseung to dive into while sunghoon sidles up against jay, leaning on his shoulder. they laugh and giggle at stupid animal clips and sometimes heeseung would fall right back asleep because he's warm and comfy and surrounded by his favorite people, to which jay would flick his forehead and tease him for falling asleep again.
even so, heeseung finds himself in the closest thing you can consider heaven on earth when he's around them, when the sun spills across the floor like a cup of light tipped over and fell. he thinks that if all it takes to be like this, in their arms surrounded by their happiness, is to wake up a little early, than he will try his goddamn best to wake up in the morning for them, even if his body wants to sleep a little longer.
