Happy Birthday Killua (KiKi)!

Summary:

Edited Summary: Killua Zoldyck, not knowing what a birthday was other than the abuse he got as a kid? More likely than you think. When Gon finds out, of course he has to give Killua the perfect one. After having a good morning, Killua has a breakdown, requiring Gon's help to calm down. Gon does, and the rest of the day goes perfectly well.

Bad summary ik but I promise its at least decent and I worked hard on it-

Hello guys, welcome to this oneshot! I really hope you enjoy it!
This will be my first ever time trying to create a oneshot, and not something with more than one chapter.

Please keep in mind that Killua and Gon are 12-15 (can be seen as anywhere in between or exactly that age), so you can see this as romantic or platonic. I wrote it that way to make people comfortable. Yes, they will share kisses, but they have that friendship where they can kiss and not know what it means yet, though I do ship KilluGon.

Note: There is past Child Abuse and other things that may trigger one of you. Please be careful while reading this!!

With that said, I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

“Gon, Gon wake up.” Gon sat up, rubbing his eyes tiredly. “Aunt Mito? What’s up?” His aunt smiled at him, eyes soft.

“We have to get ready for Killua’s birthday, remember?” Gon was suddenly wide awake,  remembering what day it was. “Oh yeah! Let’s go! Do you have the chocolate?” Mito smiled at his enthusiasm and nodded. “Of course. You said he loves chocolate, so I got a lot.”

Gon looked at her gratefully before getting some clothes. “I’m going to take a shower and then I’ll be down to get cooking. Can you start, Aunt Mito? I need to get his presents ready, too.”

She nodded, thinking it was sweet how excited Gon was to celebrate Killua’s birthday. “Just try to let him sleep in. He deserves it, and we need some time, anyway.”

Gon nodded, excited for this. “Got it’s

~~~
When Killua finally woke up, he smelled something extremely sweet. Was that-chocolate? Please say it was.
Killua may have an unhealthy obsession with chocolate, but he couldn’t help it. It was just so good and so sweet
Getting up, the former assassin grabbed some of his now clean clothes and got dressed.
Trying to fix his hair, Killua put some eyeliner on. His eyes were natural, sure, but he liked how eyeliner made them pop
“Killua, are you up??” A head peeled through, and Killua laughed at his best friend. “You’re up early.” Gon nodded, closing the door and rushing over to him. “I have to be! Today is a special day for Killua!”
Killua raised an eyebrow. “Really? Like what?” He didn’t remember anything happening today. Maybe Gon just wanted to celebrate something.
“Killua doesn’t remember?” Gon looked sad now, and Killua felt bad. “I-uh-no? I’m sorry, is it something I should remember?”
“Killua, it’s your birthday!” Gon was pouting, eyes even more sad. “Birthday? What’s that?” Gon stumbled back in shock.
“You-you don’t know what a birthday is?” “No, not really. My family probably never had whatever it is.”
“Killua, everyone has a birthday. It’s the day where you celebrate the day of your birth! Your family never did that?”
Killua had to think. “Well, no, probably not in the way most people did.” His way of celebrating was probably extra training and it being more tough on July 7th than on any other day. “Wouldn’t be surprised if they used my birthday to get me to  train more…” Gon looked confused and Killua shook it off.
“Don’t worry about it, Gon. Just ignore it. What do you do for a birthday?”
Gon smiled, a bit happier now that he could help Killua celebrate. “Okay well, we have cake and some breakfast, and I got you some presents, too!” Gon was now jumping up and down, ecstatic to give Killua his gifts.
“O-oh. That’s uh-that sounds fun?” He hoped he sounded convinced. It was just weird, how different things were when it came to his family and Gon.
“Yeah, it is! Now come on, Aunt Mito has your food ready!” Gon’s smile was so bright, it was like the sun. “Okay, okay I’m coming.” They ran downstairs, where the smell of chocolate was getting stronger.
“Hello, happy birthday Killua! Come on and eat!” Killua sat down, a yummy, chocolate covered pancake in front of his seat. “Jeez, how did you make this? It looks so good.” He licked his lips, eyes brightening.
“I’m glad, but go ahead and eat!” Gon took his own advice, digging into the food hungrily. “Yup, it’s really good!”  Aunt Mito smiled but scolded Gon for his manners, while Killua did the same thing. “Oh yeah. These are the best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life, seriously.” Mito laughed, watching her boys eat like they hadn’t in years. “I’m glad you like them.”
Once they were finished eating, Mito told them to go upstairs and hang out there while she cleaned up. “Don’t worry about it, boys. It’s your birthday, Killua, and Gon needs to make sure you have a good time.” Gon grinned, easily agreeing and taking Killua’s hand, dragging him upstairs. “Come on, then! I have some things we can do in my room.” Killua let Gon drag him up, just happy to be with his first and best friend.
“Okay, so, want me to get some things out?” Killua nodded, and Gon left the room to grab some things, leaving Killua to sit on the bed and wait.
Sadly, the peace wasn’t there forever. Killua’s thoughts went from how free he felt with Gon to life before he left home, before the hunter exam. “Shit, I do not want to think of that, please…” He couldn’t control it, though. His thoughts would always go to his life as an assassin, happy mood or sad mood.
(Warning: this will mention abuse. If you dont like this, please go down to where i will say it’s over so you’re safe :D.)
(You still here? Okay, ill get started thennnn.)
The first time Killua had been poisoned, it was when he hadn’t had food for over a full week, at age three. His mom thought that, now that he was officially three, his body could handle it.
“Oh, Killua? Good, you’re still here. It’s time for food.” Killua, not thinking about how his mother never came down to give him food, and it was always either a butler or his father, mostly because he was so hungry he could care less, the small boy was let go of the chains connected his wrists and legs. Killua then reached for some of the burgers there, something that also should have made him see something was wrong, as he never had had one before.
“Uh-mom, these smell weird..” Killua’s mother shook her head, smirking. “Go ahead and eat, or you won't have anything for two more weeks. I’ll be back down later to check up on you. Don't bother escaping?”
‘Wait, she’s not chaining me up?’ Yet another thing to have given the naive Killua a sign that something was up. Sadly, he hasn’t learned to not trust his family yet, so he ate some of the burger.
All was fine until an hour later, pain erupting in his stomach. “What-oh fuck!” Killua fell over, holding his stomach and curling into a ball. “What’s going on? Why is my stomach hurting so much? It’s never hurt this bad, not even when I was sick.” Tears streamed down his face. This was even worse than being electrocuted, and that shit hurt bad.
Killua heard the door open.
“Ah, I see it kicked in. This, my sweet boy, is why you never accept things from strangers.” Arms wrapped around him. “Sadly we have to keep the poison in you for another hour or so, just so your pain tolerance as well as poison immunity can get larger. Hopefully it’ll be even bigger than Illumi himself, and his is greater than most people.”
Killua was laid onto his back, and he stifled his cries. Zoldyck’s never, ever showed weakness, no matter how much pain they were in. He had to learn how to deal with pain while not showing others how bad it really was. He just had to do this for over two more hours, and hide everything so no one realized anything.
He could do it, hopefully.
He just had to ignore the
“-ua!”
-overwhelming pain he was in-
“-illua! Can you hear me?”
-and how it felt like something was killing his insides with some sort of burning acid.
“Killua, please look at me!”
(END OF FLASHBACK)
Killua blinked away the wetness in his eyes, realizing that Gon was sitting in front of him, rubbing his back and cheek with his hands. “Hey, can you hear me now?” The other looked so worried, as if something bad had happened to Killua.
Gon smiled, relieved, when Killua gave a small nod. “Y-yeah. What happened?”
“I need you to tell me that, KiKi. I came back with some games for us to play, and you were sitting here, crying in pain while holding your stomach. It was like you were in the middle of some sort of extremely painful memory.” Killua swallowed thickly, eyes filling with tears again when he thought about the memory he had. “I-uh-yeah, that’s exactly what happened.” He felt Gon’s hand go from his cheek and back to his waist as the green boy sat next to him, cautiously moving Killua closer. Killua, knowing what Gon wanted, helped him get the former assassin to Gon’s lap.
“There. Now can you tell me what happened? You don’t have to, but you know that I never think of you any differently when you tell me things about your past, and you share better when being cuddled.” It was true. When he was in Gon’s arms especially, Killua felt safe and loved, and knew Gon would protect him from harm. It was one of the few times he could be himself and just relax for a while, letting the one person he trusted the most to look after him.
“You sure? I’ve never told you about the poison, only the lesser thing, like the whips and starvation.” Those were actually the only things he ever told Gon, too scared to mention the worse things his family have done to him.
“Yeah, I really do want to know, and getting it off your chest will help. If you need to stop at any time just tell me.” Gon ran a hand through Killua’s soft, snowy locks, eyes closing as he waited for Killua to decide.
“Okay so uh-first things first, at the time I was three. It was..the first time my parents fed me poison..”
I never expected them to go to such far lengths, but I probably should have. They’d started electrocution techniques a month before, and this time was July seventh, on my third birthday.”
Mom had starved me for about a week, and I’d just started being starved then, too. I was really hungry, so I ignored all the clues saying this wasn’t normal. Mother had never come down to feed me, only a butler or father. She’d never given me anything like a burger, which she handed me this time. Finally, she left without chaining me back up, hinting she knew I’d be too weak to try and escape.”
Ignoring these things was easier when I was so hungry. It never even got noticeable until about two hours later, when my stomach started convulsing in pain.”
Then, mother and someone else came down, seeing it had started affecting me by this time. She said I’d have to leave it in for over two to three hours, just so my immunity to poison and pain tolerance would get bigger.”
After that it just got worse, but I think that, even if this wasn’t the worse thing they’ve done, it came to me today because it’s my first ever time celebrating my birthday with no physical pain or torture.”
Gon’s arms around Killua were tight, and Killua felt tears soaking his shirt. “Gon? Are you okay?” There was a small shake of the head resting on his, and Killua’s concern grew. “Did-did I do something wrong?”
Gon quickly lifted his head up, tears streaming down his face and eyes filled with hatred and rage. “No, don’t ever think you did. Your fucking shitty family that had the audacity to even think, let alone actually, hurt you, someone so full of love and beauty, did something wrong. They didn’t deserve you, KiKi, I swear.” Gon wiped his eyes, bottom lip trembling before it stopped. “Gon..” Killua didn’t know what to say. Gon swore? For him? Gon hated swearing himself, so he had to be very pissed off to even have the idea to swear. “Sorry..” Gon shook his head again, leaning down to kiss Killua’s forehead and then his nose, cheeks, and lips. Once he pulled away, Killua was flushed red and Gon looked much calmer. “Wha-” “Tell me you know that what they did to you was wrong.” “Why?” “Please. Just-repeat this: “What my family did to me was wrong”.” Killua was tense, but Gon’s hand gently massaging the small of his back helped him relax again.
“I-what my family did to me was wrong..” “Good. Next: “I deserve better than what my family gave me”.”
“I deserve better than what my family gave me..”
“”I deserve all the love and cuddles and sweet things anyone can give me”.” “I uh-I deserve all the love and cuddles and sweet things anyone can give me.”
“Finally, “Gon loves me and I deserve to have him in my life”.”
Killua felt his face becoming warmer each time he repeated a sentence. “You, Gon, love me and I deserve to have you in my life.” Gon looked so proud, kissing him on his sensitive earlobe. “Good job my sweet KiKi, I’m very proud. Now, can I do that with you a couple times during the week? I wanna see if it’ll help a bit with your trauma and self esteem. It helped with the island girls here, so maybe it’ll help you.”
Killua, feeling the usual rush of anger whenever he heard about the disgusting females on this island that took advantage of Gon’s kind nature, decided to agree to Gon’s idea. “Yeah, I wanna get better.”
After cuddling for a while and watching a few shows and a movie, Gon and Killua were called to dinner.
“I’m sure Aunt Mito has a birthday cake ready for you!” They rushed down to see a chocolate fudge cake with candles already lit, on the table with Mito, Gon’s great grandma, and even Kurapika and Leorio were there!
“Happy birthday Killua. I hope you don’t mind the gifts we got you.” Kurapika and Leorio were pulled into large hugs, Killua overwhelmed with love and appreciation for the people now in his life.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Killua, happy birthday to you!”
A hand rested on Killua’s waist, and Gon’s voice whispered in his ear, “go ahead and make a wish, then blow out the candles..” Killua did so, closing his eyes and then blowing gently.
“Oooh, all of them in one go? Good job KiKi!” Gon kissed his cheek, and they all ate dinner before getting cake as well.
“Night, we’re going to bed. Don’t stay up too late, boys.” Mito waved, Kurapika and Leorio right behind her.
“Okay. Night Aunt Mito!” “Yeah, night Aunt Mito. Thanks for tonight.” She gave them kisses on the forehead before going to her room.
Gon and Killua stayed up a while longer, laughing and having fun and trying to be quiet at the same time so they didn’t wake the others up.
By one AM, they went to Gon’s room and cuddled on the bed, tired from the long day of fun.
“Thanks, Gon. This was the best birthday ever.” “No problem, Killua! I’m so glad you had fun. Let’s do this again next year, kay?” Killua agreed. “And for your birthday, too.” “Mhm. Night Kiki.” “Night, Go’.” Killua’s eyes closed, one last thought going through his head.
“Please, I wish for Gon and I to stay side-by-side forever, the rest of our lives in fact. That’s my only wish.”
