He smiled when he was going through his camera before letting out a quiet ‘ow!’. He felt something bite him on his hand. Will quickly shook whatever was on his hand and it fell to the ground. His heart sank once he realized it was a spider that looked quite familiar to the ones he just took photos of.
“It’s just a coincidence that the spider that bit you looks very…” He swallowed, trying to shake off his nerves. “Similar to the ones in the case but once you count them again, they’re all going to be there and the spider that bit you was a normal spider.”
He went back to the case and started counting before the feeling of dread creeped into his stomach. “No, no, no.” He counted again, again, and again before giving up that there were only eleven spiders inside the case now.

Summary
Something comes over Eddie. He’s not lonely, not exactly. It’s a feeling adjacent to it. Another regretful consequence of being wanted for murder: absolutely no dating life whatsoever. Not that Eddie had one before, and not that he’s had time to really dwell on it the past few months, with trying to get his life back on track after the charges were dropped and with moving.
Eddie feels something like longing creep in. He rubs his eyes, attempting to clear it away. Is it bad that he wants better than “fine” and “content”? He wants something more. He craves it like a hit.
And Steve sounds…also the word for not lonely, but something like lonely too. There’s something in Steve’s voice. He also catches Harrington’s almost purposeful avoidance of bringing up his dating life, which confuses Eddie.
It's been five months since they saved the world. Eddie is cleared of the murder charges and is still alive. Why does it still feel like something is missing? Steve, too, is on the path towards self-discovery.
Steve offers to be Eddie's wingman as they both try to find their happiness. What could possibly go wrong?

He needs to be in New York by the end of May, but Steve decides to leave Hawkins behind early and takes off when spring break starts. He needs this trip to clear his head and do some healing, alone in the silence of his RV. That's the plan, and his trip is going well until an unexpected flat tire leaves him stranded in San Francisco. Alone on a Friday night, Steve needs a drink, and as if the fates were listening, he finds a bar across the street from his motel. Enjoying a drink and a smoke, he hears a laugh like the ghost from his past. He knows it can't be Him-- knows there's no way in hell because he's 7 years gone and Steve isn't stupid enough to believe it could be him. But what if it is?
