Summary
At his mom’s insistence that he needs to consider a life after hockey, Shane decides to go to BU and play hockey for the Terriers before going into the NHL, while Ilya, desperate to get out of Russia, goes straight into the NHL. Yet fate has its ways, and Shane stumbles into a friendship with a group of Russian international students. Sometimes life is playing 3D chess just to get you to your person.
Note: for the purposes of this fic, we’re going to pretend that the recent increase in hockey players playing in college before the NHL instead of major junior hockey happened much earlier in the timeline.
I have no idea how many chapters this will end up being, but for now it's just the opening part!

Hyunjin walks over towards the door but stops next to you. You glance up to look at him, to question if he needs something but he startles you by brushing a hand under your chin. It’s gentle and careful but firm enough to tip your face from side to side. You’re frozen under his touch as he looks at your poorly hidden bruise and the bandage on your head. His eyes are soft but his expression is hard, brows furrowed and his mouth pressed tightly together, like he’s trying to hold himself back.
Still holding your chin he finally looks into your eyes, “You’re a bad liar,” he says quietly.

This is a fic covering the Champions Island event for death battle champions, following a personal plot, interactions, arcs, ships, and an elimination order I came up with myself. So, it doesn't follow the elimination order of the actual Champions Island. The earlier chapters are more like one-shot interactions between the 16 characters that bounce around different dates and times early on in the game.
