Lights was working on the great problem for centuries on end and minimizing their emotions for more processing speed in the hopes to see his citizens again, until something… happened

That something was a Slugcat with a pearl.

    Summary

After many struggles the iterators were given their own cities, away from their creators. They have began their own society, no longer bound to the task they were given nor the structures they once resided in.

Yet life is not easy, especially for one iterator who held their creators in high regards, uncaring of the abuse he has faced. Five Pebbles doesn't understand why they had to abandon their greater bodies and live as just their puppets without their greater computing power. He doesn't like it at all.

Aka, Pebbles being Pebbles. Iterators in a more "modern" setting but really they are just out of their structures and in a city

Part of Cycle-torn au but you do not really need to read the rest to understand this fic in particular, unless something changes in my plans.

    Summary

Hundreds of thousands of cycles have passed since the Ascension of the Benefactors, and an iterator named Principle of Erudition watches the world descend into a cold, forgotten grave. As the remaining iterators slowly collapse around her over eons of time, she becomes desperate to find a solution to the Great Problem.

    Summary

Circuits frying, pipes breaking, nothing here, nothing left. A god falls from grace, only one keepsake in his hand. All he sees is white, until there is color. All he hears is the broken music of the dark pearl floating by his side, until he hears the snow give in under the weight of footsteps.

The others will not leave Five Pebbles to freeze and die alone. Even if his memory fails him, they will remind him that he is deserving of help still.

Set mainly between Rivulet and Saint campaigns (with some parts set across other campaigns or even before mass ascension) where the iterators found a way to leave their cans, and hopefully they can make their lives in this dying, frozen world be filled with warmth and hope. Unfortunately there are ups and downs as regrets come and go and the cycles shift.

And a being watches from afar

    Summary

SSaDC: And what about other concerns? The local facility is filled with Practical and Cultural Necessities— there is simply no space for a whole Iterator to sit, other than where Looks to the Moon is already situated. Unless you wish to suggest something drastic, such as removing the (Technically impractical, but highly venerated) True Anointed Citadel, then your proposal is Dead in the water before it can begin.

FDuGL: That is exactly what I am suggesting.

    ___
The political climate surrounding the proposal, development, and construction of Five Pebbles was a fraught one. There is no one without an opinion, including the Iterator himself, who has to contend with the rather irritating knowledge that this has all happened before.

    Summary

An Iterator gets bored and starts cataloging fauna and flora due to existing sources getting outdated as creatures evolve.
Finds a young, lonely slugcat when observing the area near Five Pebbles and takes interest in it.

Written from the Iterator's POV, supplemented by a narrator that describes the situation from the slugcat's POV.

This is my attempt at recapturing the unforgettable experience that is playing Rain World as Survivor for the first time. Originally, I wanted to share how violent the Rain World™ would realistically be, but have moved to making something somewhat different. None of what 'happens' (or can be inferred to happen) in-game is censored, you can expect things like slugcat murdering and eating batflies and lizards doing the same to slugcat. Nature sure is brutal at times.
Has some headcanon'y stuff to fill the world, feedback welcome.

    Summary

Iterators were built to last, to iterate for an eternity and longer, to solve the great problem. The creation of Shifting Gales didn't follow that dogma, its acidic consequences at last having breached her veins, corroding her now from the inside out.

Cursed to waste away slowly, until dissolving into nothingness.

Gales' local group didn't accept the cruelty of fate, of the Ancients' distant mockery, and halted their primary objective to help their friend in peril.
As they worked tirelessly on a solution, a small, soon-to-be glowing, Slugcat was purposed to fulfil a crucial mission.

75 chapters total is an average. Can be more, can be less. But we are on the finishing line.

    Summary

Runoff from local iterators, polluted by heavy metals and other contaminants, has turned a small forest into a decaying marsh. Two benefactors decide to solve this issue by building a smaller scale iterator in the heart of the marsh, her facilities used for studying the contamination and filtering out the pollutants.

The iterator grows to adore her administrators and the small team living atop her superstructure, so when the inevitable occurs, it leaves her distraught and crestfallen. What will become of a machine so accustomed to the love of others?

    Summary

Dying to a work-related accident is one thing, but waking up as an "Iterator" inside a massive box is another.

Now I need to somehow adopt and cope with my new existence while preserving what little sanity I have left. At least being a giant super computer gives me all the time and brain power I need to solve all of my problems…somewhat.

Like keeping those damn zealots at arm’s length and figuring out how to get out of his damn box.

First order of business, don't die a second time and don't cause to much damage to myself, and the world around me.

    Easier said than done.

Wait...why is there an Otter/Ferret looking thing inside my room?

    Summary

Iterators are built to last. They experiment for hundreds upon thousands of cycles, building off previous tests, learning from previous iterations, taking miniscule steps towards the elusive Solution - who's to say whether they're even heading in the right direction? Regardless, they try, and try, and try, until they are too burdened down by the weight of their inevitable failures to try anymore.

Even then, they remain, semi-eternal. The mind remains until the can collapses.

    FSA's mind does not.

Which is arguably very, very bad for the local group, because this far north, it's a little difficult to deal with an Iterator that specializes in wrecking shit in various interesting ways. Especially when he hasn't got a clue who they are.

    Summary

It is rare to find understanding in this world. It is rarer still to further your understanding of yourself through the lens of another.

What comes after the eucatastrophe? Freedom that was once beyond all of them slowly becomes commonplace, and the bounds of possibility that closed in over cycles of decay show signs of weakening once more.

With fragile hope, Seven Red Suns and Five Pebbles both intend to make the best of it. No matter what else might come their way.

    Summary

This is a story about the sort of drama you might imagine goes on between a bunch of forgotten godlike machines. Follow Careless Mercy and her fading connections through the long, dull passage of time after the old world moves on.

Expect existentialism, decay, and plenty of unfortunate circumstances: the likes of which Rain World does not hesitate to offer.

    Summary

The Tailor knew little of her meaning in this horrid environment, but they knew of their mission’s importance. The pearl secured in their waist bag had to get to Dreams in less than a hundred cycles, or else her iterator would suffer whatever consequences were to come.

However, a fuzzy slugcat like her has no purpose nor place in the humid habitat where Dreams was located. As they trudge along the hot atmosphere that tolled on their burning, melting body, they begin to discover how cruel the world and its inhabitants truly are. Yet, all they yearn for is to complete the mission and return home to her Fields.

    Summary

A few cycles have passed since the mass ascension. Iterators of the Forgotten Valley group are now alone. Some of them seek new entertainment, some devote their time to working on the Great Problem, some rage at the seeming betrayal of their missing masters. But the outside world has changed a lot since their benefactors have left the surface. Their empty cities, gardens and bridges won't stay empty for long.

This fic consists of broadcasts and pearl data, so the chapters will vary in length.

Life without connection truly feels dull, though isolation doesn't necessarily mean complete boredom. Even if one is stuck in a state of loneliness, perhaps some meaning can be derived from learning as much as there is to learn, and maybe, just maybe, there may be more out there afterall.

    Summary

The Runt. That was all the clan called him. Too small to be helpful, too weak to hunt, too clumsy to repair.
It was always this or that, excuse after excuse for why he couldn't do something.
But he’d had enough of it. Enough of being babied, treated like he was not enough. He wanted to do, wanted to act.
He wanted to earn a name.
And so began his journey into the endless storm over what he'd called home his whole life.
And he quickly learned there was more to the world than just the endless storm, as he had been led to believe.
