Voldemort killed Harry’s parents. Voldemort tried to kill Harry at least six or seven times directly. Voldemort is the reason Harry’s life is shit. Except. Except it’s not all Voldemort’s fault.
Snape is the one who told Voldemort the prophecy. Pettigrew is the one who betrayed Harry’s parents. Bellatrix is the one who killed Sirius.
But Dumbledore is the one who put Harry with the Dursleys, the one who always encouraged Harry’s misadventures. with all of Dumbledore’s cards on the table, Harry can see Dumbledore’s schemes and manipulations. For as long as Dumbledore was alive, Harry was a pawn, a puppet. Harry walked to his own death for the sake of Dumbledore’s plans.
It’s only after his rage at Dumbledore fizzles out that he realizes he doesn’t hate Voldemort. Voldemort killed his parents, and there’s a part of Harry that loathes him for that, but there’s also a part of Harry that understands war now.
“No matter,” Voldemort says, his voice and closeness bringing Harry back to the present. “I can touch you now.”
Voldemort’s finger presses against Harry’s scar, and for the first time it doesn’t burn.
It doesn’t burn.
It takes Harry 80 deaths realize that he does not want to die anymore.He does not want to be a pawn in a war that he decided he doesn’t give a flying fuck about forty cycles ago. He does not want to play into Dumbledore’s plans, follow along blindly until he’s slaughtered like the sacrificial lamb he was raised to be.

“I’ll finish your ritual for you,” Harry says, finally looking at Voldemort “If you agree to an oath where we swear not to kill each other. I’m done with the war.”
Voldemort barks out a sharp laugh, the sound distorted by the limitations of his current form. “Not very heroic of you. Dumbledore will be disappointed in his chosen savior.”
“Dumbledore can go fuck himself,” Harry says blandly. “Do we have a deal or not?”
“You’re serious.”
“Very.” Harry deliberately meets Voldemort’s eyes, allows the legilimency to prod at his mind. If he wants this to work, he can’t afford to hide anything, and besides, Harry stopped caring cycles ago.
“Merlin,” Voldemort swears under his breath as he pulls back, eyes blinking rapidly. Probably trying to process 90-some cycles of information, not to mention the future knowledge Harry holds. “We have a deal.

Harry holds his arm over the bubbling cauldron and squeezes his own blood into the potion. “Blood of an old enemy, freely offered.”
Harry then levitates Wormtail over the cauldron and drops him in whole “Flesh of the servant,” Harry says gleefully, “dutifully given.”
When Voldemort rises from the cauldron this time, Harry blinks “You have hair.” Harry blinks again. “And a nose. Huh.”
Voldemort takes advantage of his nose by pinching the bridge of it. “Robes, Potter, if you don’t mind.”
“Oh, right. Naked.” Harry nods to himself and then passes over the heavy black cloth.
Once Voldemort is dressed, he takes a moment to assess himself. He’s not quite the spitting image of Tom Riddle from the diary, Harry notes, though he’s a hell of a lot closer to it than Harry had bothered to hope for. The hair, nose, and general face structure are almost the same, though perhaps a touch narrower, hardened into the face of an adult rather than a teen. He might be paler too, or it might be the shit lighting in the graveyard—it’s hard to say.
The eyes, though, are red.
“Neat,” Harry says, mouth twitching into a smile when Voldemort scowls at him.
“You altered the ritual.”
“And thank god I did. The snake visage was a bit much.”
“It was intimidating.”
“It was fucking weird.”guess we’ll just have to settle for a normal wizard’s oath until we can get something a bit more binding. Over the summer perhaps? Barty can do it, assuming he doesn’t blow his own cover before I can get him out of Hogwarts.”
“And you’d do that? Get him out of Hogwarts?” Voldemort asks, head tilted to the side, eyes narrowed in consideration. “It’s not part of our deal.”
Harry’s grin is vicious and probably, he thinks, a little unhinged. “I plan on making things very difficult for Dumbledore. Helping you just so happens to further my own goal.”
They each swear not to kill the other, and Voldemort’s responding grin is a perfect match for Harry’s
“I’d prefer to keep my return…quiet for now.”
“And you’re going to collect your horcruxes and reabsorb at least a few of them, right?”
Voldemort hesitates for a moment. “Perhaps that might be best.”
“Good. Well. I’ll be off then. See you this summer!”

“What happened?” Barty asks in Moody’s gruff voice, and Harry grins, all teeth.
“Oh Barty,” Harry says, smiling wider still when Barty stiffens. “Do I have news for you.”

Harry was squirming off his lap, and through a haze that was not entirely related to the sudden restart of the time loop, Snape wondered how it was that he had managed to land with a lapfull of student after coming through with the portkey. Or how he had managed to get said portkey jammed between his hip and his tailbone. At least it distracted him from the fact that Harry seemed incapable of extricating himself without rubbing Snape in a way that would be considered the right way if Harry weren't his teenaged student.
