In his newer interviews, Adam’s accent was almost unrecognizable. It was poised, perfect, and unmistakably British. He would switch over to Spanish seamlessly every time a question was asked.

Pulling his eyes away from the moths, it took Ronan a full circuit of the snack bar to find the voice’s origin. Behind the counter, a boy sat on a stack of two plastic milk crates next to an open stairwell, and if he hadn’t said anything, Ronan would have missed him like the T. rex missed seeing people when they stayed still. That part of Jurassic Park was probably bullshit, but he’d never cared enough to confirm it. He didn’t care much about the boy either until he realized he’d seen him before. Not at the drive-in—Ronan had had the pleasure of staying far away from it before tonight—but around Henrietta. Once or twice at the Fresh Eagle when Ronan stopped into the grocery store for energy drinks. A few times riding his bike on the shoulder of the road as he pedaled away from downtown.
And at Boyd’s Body and Paint after the Pig shit the bed on I-64 at the beginning of the summer.
When he's dragged to the drive-in on a Friday night, Ronan runs into a boy he's seen around Henrietta.
A boy he's half in love with.

But the wall was behind her, and she couldn’t get any further. She pressed herself against the wall, drawing herself in to make herself as small as possible.
One of the demon's scaly claws landed on her shoe, vile and otherworldly, and it heaved itself up her leg, scorpion tail readying.
She closed her eyes and braced herself for what she was sure was going to be a painful death.
When it didn’t come, she cracked her eye open, just in time to see the monster on her erupting into dust.
She blinked, and dropped her hand from where it had automatically come up to shield her face. Standing in front of her were the two men from before, the pale one sheathing a strange, slightly glowing sword stained with the monster’s black blood.
It seemed impossible. One moment the creature was there and the other it was gone, the only thing that remained of it currently coating her leggings. That wasn’t how living things died. That wasn’t how anything died.
But then she snapped herself back into her mind. That didn’t matter. What mattered was that thing had attacked Noah, and he wasn’t getting up.
