Princess Zelie has had a lot to think about over the past year. In the realm of Queensland, where sororal polygyny is (for practical reasons) the rule of law, all sisters in a family group marry the same husband. Sixth eldest she may be - but at the head of her little coterie of sisters, she's still *an* Eldest. Isn't she?
Seventeen-year-old Jerin Whistler, the Prince Consort, does his best to be a good husband to all ten of his wives. For the elder set, nearer his age or a little older, that means pleasing them in the bedroom. For the younger set, like Zelie, all not yet ten, it means spending time with them in the playroom. He would never complain of being bored. He's grown up with seventeen youngest sisters and a handful of brothers, after all - he can usually handle five little girls' boisterous antics.
But sometimes, even his child brides are a little exhausting. So when he dozes off while playing battle during the youngests' history reenactment for the first time, nine-year-old Zelie takes charge.
