Family Once Lost (may change later)

Chapter 10: Naming Is A Difficult Process When It Seems To Be More Than One

Summary:

“Do you want me to tuck you in tonight? Or do you want me to get Shota? He and Hizashi sound like they just got back.”

“You.”

Notes:

Hey yall! I'd like to start this off by saying that there will be a link to a Google Forms in the end notes! It has questions that I've been meaning to ask. Despite being only 10 chapters into the tale, i have quite a few questions for you all! Especially after the reveal in last chapter! I made sure not to mark many questions as required, just the ones id like to know more about for the book.

Anything that requires an update to tell yall the results will most likely be held at a hella later date when i look at it. So the poll will most likely be held open for at least 3 week(?).

Anyways! This chapter really pushed me because I'm starting to taper off on ideas this close to the beginning of the story. I have a lot closer towards the middle of the book, so this will be just pushing it later in my day since i typically try to post around midnight for me.

Hope yall enjoyed! Sorry if it seems a bit like a filler towards the beginning-

sdr Also! Have a told yall how much I fucking love your comments? I'm being serious, sometimes if my day has been shitty, seeing one of you commented something really makes me grin. It doesn't matter if it's just a few 'thanks for the chapter!' or a fucking analysis of everything yall have seen, i love seeing them and i try to respond to as many of them i can before the next chapter is posted.

Now yall can get to the story-

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“So, what does this mean?”

After the comms had been turned off and Doctor Doi had called the specialists, the oldest Midoriya had wanted answers. He had seen the elements drawn towards his sister. When they had talked about the family history, they hadn’t expected only one form of kinesis involved. It looked like she had four.

“I’m not sure,” Doi replied, shuffling through her papers. “I’d have to contact a few other quirk specialists to talk about her quirk to see if anyone else has run into something like this before. Otherwise, it’d be best to mark her down with the four elements until I can find out.”

“But, those are four different quirks, right?” Hizashi asked, pulling his boyfriend back from the window.

“Maybe? They all worked together around her and were brought out all at once so this isn’t just like the quirks from the rest of your family. This is a mutation from them from only one to four that work together around the user.”

“We can’t leave without registering her,” Keigo said, feathers ruffling slightly. With her quirk being brought out, they couldn’t leave without the registration. “We don’t have time to wait around for the rest of the day if any of them have answers.”

“We can put it down as a form of elementokinesis for now, that’s the closest thing hers is related to. I’ll call you in again once I can get more information. I’ll just need the two of you to sign off on it once I can find something better suited for it... I’ll finish the paperwork needed, go ahead and head to the front desk. Sachiho will help you from there.”

“We’re going to need copies because we need proof of quirk change.”

“Don’t remind me, I have to file suit for that too,” Doi groaned. “Because some fucking idiot decided to break the code just to get the appointment over with... Go ahead and take Izumi towards the front, I’ll meet you there.”

The loud blond opened the door, motioning both his boyfriend and the younger male out of the room. Doctor Doi was quick to follow after them, passing by to gather the paperwork. Izumi came skipping out of the room to their right, a nice air of followed her with a smile on her face.

“Did you see that!” she asked, grabbing onto both of her brothers. “I have a quirk! It was so cool! I can bend air and earth and fire and water and it doesn’t hurt me as I thought!”

“We saw, Zu,” Shota said with a small smile, lightly squeezing her hand.

“It is pretty cool,” Keigo added, starting to lead the group back to the front. “We’ll have to see if we can find multiple teachers for you, kid. I’m hoping they still give recommendations for where to go.”

“They give recommendations?”

“Yeah, before I went to, uh, training camp, they gave mom a recommendation to take me to this one quirk user who could manipulate pieces of their body like I can with my wings and they gave another for flight.”

“This seems like a damn good family business,” Hizashi said, leaning over Shota’s shoulder. “How connected are they?”

“Pretty connected but they’re underrated because they aren’t like a big corporation where everything is in the same place. They just find the quirk, they don’t help train it unless they do have someone that can help. I know they’d likely recommend an elemental dojo and trainers for each element for Izumi outside of the facility while also having her come back from time to time just to check on progress.”

“Because I’m behind everyone quirk wise?” Izumi asked.

“They won’t have you come in for more than a year,” Keigo started, running a hand through her hair. “It’s just to be sure for a little bit since you have to catch up to the rest of your class. They’ll probably recommend you stay out of any assessment taken by the school for the next few months until you have some more control.”

“Oh...”

Shota and Keigo shared a look. While the latter hadn’t been around much when she was considered “quirkless”, he knew that most weren’t exactly open to those without quirks. It was easy to see the signs of her being discriminated against for not having a quirk. So to hear she may not be able to use her quirk in front of her classmates for a while was a bit difficult to hear.

“Hey, you should be able to do the same exercises as the rest of your class in no time,” Hizashi said, motioning the greenette off to the side once they reached the front desk. “You’ll be up to speed in no time! You’re a fast learner, little listener!”

“Keigo and Shota? We’ll have you just fill out this form then we’ll get you both copies for it all.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Izumi smiled. She had found out she had a quirk!

“You ready for bed, Zu?”

The small greenette glanced over to her blond brother. His wings were fluttering softly with every breeze. One went flying just down the hallway with a bag.

“I am, Keigo-nii!” she replied, closing her notebook. She had been writing down about her quirk. Quirks? It doesn’t matter at the moment. She was writing about what she could do with each element once she got more control with each of them. She’d just have to get a new nights’ rest before finishing some of the thoughts or ideas. “I brushed my teeth and my hair and I got my pajamas on!”

The winged hero smiled at his sister, nodding his head. He looked down the hall as another door opened.

“Do you want me to tuck you in tonight?” he asked, leaning on her door frame. “Or do you want me to get Shota? He and Hizashi sound like they just got back.”

“You.”

He gave a small nod. As Izumi climbed into her bed, the blond stepped into the room. He glanced around at the few figurines placed on the bookshelves and the notebooks neatly stacked on another shelf. While All Might was a prime in her room, she had quite a few Eraserhead and Present Mic figures up. A newly gathered Hawks and Ingenium figurines were placed amongst the books.

“Are we going to call the dojos tomorrow?” Izumi asked, having slipped just a bit under her blankets waiting for Keigo.

“Yeah, we’ll head in or call tomorrow,” Keigo said, pulling up the blankets. He lightly brushed back her bangs as she shifted to get comfortable under the blankets. “We’ll find somewhere for you to train by the end of the week.”

It was silent again. The two siblings just sat, or laid, close one another. It had been a wild few weeks for the two. Not only meeting again, but dealing with the death of their mother. Keigo had found out that his mother never stopped her caring nature and had adopted more kids who needed help. He had more family waiting for him. It may take a while for him and Shota to catch up in time, but it’ll be worth it if this is the family he’ll have.

“Kei?”

Keigo hummed softly, looking down at his sister. She was focused on somewhere else in the room.

“Yeah, kid?”

“Could we still do those other classes you talked about too? I still want to show that having a quirk isn’t everything...”

The older smiled. He leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead, gaining her attention to look at him.

“Hell yeah, we can still sign you up,” he said, ruffling her hair. “We can get you started on those classes soon since you’ll have to learn control first. We’ll start you off with one class for now, though, so you aren’t overwhelmed.”

“Will I still do classes after I learn to control them?”

“Yeah, you can.”

“It’s just going to be a lot of discipline and work in order for you to keep up. You’ll have at least four classes where you’d need to work on controlling that quirk of yours. Are you going to be able to keep up?”

The pair looked up to see Shota standing in the doorway. His hair had been pushed up into a bun for now, but his capture weapon was around his neck along with his goggles.

“Sho-nii!” Izumi said. The dark-haired male approached her bed, sitting opposite of Keigo. Izumi started talking as he moved closer. “I was thinking... With my quirk, there are four elements. Going into those elements at the same time might not actually help me get control. So I was thinking I could start with one, like water or, uh, air, and go through each of them until I get to a point where I can work with them all together on my own?”

She trailed off lightly, fidgeting with her blankets. Her brothers were surprised. It sounded more reasonable than the proposed plan.

“Yeah, two or three classes to start off with then,” Keigo said first. He glanced over to the older, who nodded. “Then we can build you up to working with all of them. Hopefully, we can find one dojo for all elements.”

“Hizashi would’ve liked to join you tomorrow but he has work so Tensei is coming by instead with Tenya,” Shota said.

“Are you not coming with us?” the greenette asked. She had a small pout forming on her lips once her brother shook his head.

“I have work for the next few days,” he supplied. “I need to stay home in case I’m called in for any emergencies.”

“Okay...”

“I’ll come by to meet your teachers another time,” he continued, leaning down to press a kiss to her forehead like Keigo did. “But I’ll be there to meet your teachers. It’ll be just like when mom had to work a later shift, yeah? I’ll pick you up and we’ll go to the park or get ice cream.”

Izumi giggled, the comment of her mom seemingly flying over her head. She nodded, bundling up under her blankets.

“Okay,” she muttered out, her voice muffled by the blankets. A small yawn could be heard behind them as well. “Good night, Keigo-nii and Shota-nii.”

“Good night, Zu.”

“Night, kid.”

Shota switched on the little nightlight. Keigo fixed her blankets once more then turned and waited at the door for Shota. He turned off the lights as the older got closer. They both gained a little wave from the greenette before they closed the door.

“We still are going to talk about Hisashi sending you to ‘training camp’.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Izumi listened as her brothers stood outside her bedroom door a moment longer. They were talking in hushed voices. They slowly made their way down the hall, the hallway light was turned off and the soft light of the nightlight in her room was all she had left.

She remained in her bed, listening to the sounds around her. The pros that had been sent to look after them were roaming around outside watching the house When that was all she could hear, she rolled over and opened the top drawer of her nightstand.

Inside was a small notebook and pen. It was different from the one she carried around on a daily basis. This one was a light green color background, a cherry blossom branch trailing up the side with the blooming pink flowers. The girl took a moment to follow the branch with her fingers before opening it to the next open page. She twirled the pen around her fingers, wondering where to start with her day. It took a moment before she started to scribble on the page.

Her hands started to shake towards the end of her letter, tears tracing down her face and hitting the center of the page.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Mama,

How was your day? Was it okay, where you are? I hope so. Keigo-nii took me and Shota-nii to this quirk specialist that he went to when he got his quirk registered! The doctor, Doctor Doi, took us back through all of our family’s quirks! Nana’s sounded really cool!

My quirk came out too! I told Kacchan and Tenchan earlier after the appointment. They are calling it elementokinesis for now until Doctor Doi can make some calls to other specialists. She said she hasn’t seen anything like mine before... I’m hoping someone else knows anything about this! They recommended some dojos for Keigo-nii to take me to for control. He’s also looking at regular dojos while I learn to control.

Shota-nii and Hizashi have moved in again for a little bit. I think he still misses you and doesn’t want to show it around me, just like Keigo-nii. I can tell they’re both sad but want to look strong for me.

They have tried to talk to me about you, ask me how I’m doing. If I’m doing okay... I’m not sure if I am, mama. I miss you, a lot. It’s not the same without you here. Keigo-nii is trying to make the most of it by making up for when he was gone. Shota-nii is trying to be here more now but he’s having trouble between work and home. They’re trying their best but

Where did you go? Why did you have to go now? The family is getting back together but you aren’t here and Tenko’s still missing.

Why’d you have to go?

https://forms.gle/2g7VfdferBi19igu8

That's it for now! Results will show up in at least 3 weeks! I hope to have it out before the end of October.

Knowing me, i will probably end up indecisive about quite a few things still-

Notes:

Midoriya Hisashi is the only one that sold off Keigo to the Commission. Inko would have tried to stop him but couldn't before it was processed. After he left, he took as much money he could with him to America once Izumi was diagnosed quirkless. Inko had set the rest of the money in savings for Izumi when she was older. This will come to play later in the story, don't worry about it for now!

I think that's all for now! Thanks for reading so far!
