Chapter Text

The following six months were probably the most stressful but beautiful months Erwin had ever gone through. Quickly after Marie offered him the job he got down to contract discussions and signing it, immediately starting not even two weeks later. After the first few awkward days he quickly started adjusting. Most of his new co-workers were very nice, especially the ones he was working close with. Overall the company’s vibe was a lot different to his father’s. And to his surprise nobody cared even the slightest about who his father was. Matter of fact most of his co-workers didn’t even seem to know who Charles Smith was. Erwin soon figured out he even had a few queer people spread around the company. And every time he said something about ‘his boyfriend’ nobody reacted weirdly, or really reacted at all. It surprised him a little how normal it can be. The first few times he said it, it was still difficult for Erwin, but the way everybody treated him made him soon share things comfortably. And when Levi gifted him a framed picture of the two he immediately placed it on his desk to decorate his workplace and always have his boyfriend with him.

“Damn, Smith, you really pulled a hot one.” One of his co-workers said when she saw the picture the first time, causing all his surrounding coworkers to gather around and check out the portrait. Erwin never had been so flustered - in a good way.

Even workwise Erwin was thriving in his company. To his surprise, he and Marie’s father got along well. Even though they had met before, they never held any long conversations. And even the few sentences they spoke, Erwin didn’t really like Marie’s father. He wasn’t sure what it was, if it was his calm and collected self, or if Erwin just wasn’t fond of him because of the arrangement. So it surprised him to learn he was actually very nice. In the beginning it was a bit awkward to see Marie around as well. But they soon settled in a calm and neutral coexistence. And after a while they started to chat here and there too. She told Erwin that Nile left his father’s company too - which did surprise Erwin, since he was always striving to be seen by Erwin’s father. It wasn’t a surprise to Erwin that Marie and Nile got together pretty quickly after Erwin’s and Marie’s break up. He was happy for her. She seemed happy with him, and after all it was what he wished for her. True happiness. When he told her about Levi the first time, she had a smug ‘I knew it’ expression on her face, but since she made no comment Erwin decided to just ignore it - after all she was right. Marie worked in a different department of the company so they only talked when they happened to cross paths in the corridors or the company kitchen.

In his position Erwin was managing a small team and quickly adjusted to his new job. He had so many ideas on how to reorganize the different marketing campaigns, and even organized some team-bonding dinners with his coworkers. He never had so much fun working before.

His new job made his anxiety a lot better. He was forced to go outside. Was forced to surround himself with new people, with good people, and he felt like he could just be himself from the get go. It was like he finally was able to leave all of those masks behind, not immediately, but he was learning to let them go.

A few weeks after he started his new job, Erwin was finally strong enough to block both his parents on his phone. He sent them one last message, telling them how they failed both of their children miserably and that they should be ashamed of the people they were. He ended the text with telling them not to contact either of them anymore and cut them off. After days and weeks of improvement, unfortunately this particular moment, him blocking both of his parents, sent Erwin into another spiral of depression and anxiety. Although it was the right decision for him, cutting off his parents wasn’t easy.

He wanted them to love him. He wanted them to be sorry and to improve and apologize. But they wouldn’t. They just would never do better. And even if they ever did, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to give them a second chance. So he had to learn to accept they wouldn’t change, and that they wouldn’t even try.

During that time he stayed over at Levi’s almost every night, as he couldn’t deal with falling asleep alone. Levi held him, he supported him. They talked about Erwin’s feelings and how Levi dealt with rejection every time people learnt that he was gay. Levi really was his anchor.

But he got better. It got easier. And eventually he thought of his parents less and less. They tried contacting him a few times through other numbers and he hung up each time and blocked the number immediately.

It would be a lie to say everything was picture perfect. He had some setbacks, especially in the earlier months. Panic attacks before going off to work, afraid of being himself, suddenly scared of leaving said masks behind, he got so used to wearing them over the years living under his father. Unexpectedly he felt a weird longing to go back to wearing the masks, just because in retrospect it seemed familiar and easier in a sense. These feelings made no sense to Erwin, because he was the happiest he had ever been. But they still overwhelmed him sometimes. He still questioned his sexuality a lot - apparently falling in love with your best friend was not as clarifying to Erwin as he hoped it would be. It wasn’t the men part he was confused about. More so the women part. Was he gay? Bi? Pan? Coming out at 30 years old was exhausting.

And in all of it he was juggling his unsteady home and his relationship. Honestly sometimes he wondered how Levi put up with him. How he still was willing to stay with Erwin through all of this. How he was still loving him even though he questioned his entire life right in front of his eyes. And to top it off in his new stressful schedule Erwin sometimes forgot to reply to Levi or knocked out before letting him know he was home safe. Erwin didn’t do it on purpose. He tried so hard to remember, especially given their history of Erwin just disappearing. He never wanted Levi to feel like this again and it would be a lie if they said they never fought about this. It happened. A few times actually. Their fights scared both of them a lot. So Erwin worked hard to be better. It really took a while for all of them to get adjusted.

And although their living situation was hard, they somehow managed to pull through. Erwin was switching between Levi's and Hanji’s and Moblit’s flat. He insisted on paying some rent to both of their places too, even though they told him to just focus on saving up to get his own place as soon as possible. But his bad conscience was eating him alive, so they allowed him to buy groceries at least.

Then after a few months when he finally had saved up enough money for rent, a deposit and to buy some furniture and necessities, he was able to search for a new place. He visited multiple places but they were either tiny or way too expensive. It frustrated him, luckily Levi being there to calm him and to help him through the process. But then after two months of searching and visiting what felt like 100 apartments, Erwin finally found the perfect one. He immediately signed the lease and they told him he could move in the following month. Until then he had to keep switching between staying with Hanji and staying with Levi - but at least an end was in sight.

And even though it was very stressful and took a toll on all of them, somehow all this time he still grew closer to everybody. Erwin certainly didn’t expect it to be possible to grow closer to Hanji and Moblit, but somehow they did. And Levi’s friends were now his friends too. Sometimes when Levi had the early morning shift and went to bed early, Erwin stayed behind to chat with his friends.

Usually Levi was a bit grumpy about it, because Erwin was supposed to give him the attention not his friends, but Erwin knew if he would be honest at least once, he would admit how happy he was that they got along so well.

Finally it was the long awaited moving day. Of course, everybody agreed to meet up to help Erwin through this exhausting day. Their schedule started with Erwin and Levi having to pick up Erwin’s key as well as bring some boxes over. The others were scheduled to arrive a little after Erwin and Levi brought over more stuff.

Erwin just got back from his business trips. His company decided to schedule meetings with different clients consecutively over three weeks, meaning he had to go from one to another. Ergo the two lovebirds were separated for these three weeks. It was tough for them to be apart for so long. Especially because Levi made it clear multiple times how much he disliked Erwin being away and ‘leaving him behind’. Particularly because Erwin was busy 24/7 on that trip. He told him to take him next time so he could at least spend some nice time in a great hotel spa and eat good food, and they wouldn’t be apart for that time. But during the trip they were at least falling asleep together on the phone a few nights (along with the occasional sexting and some mildly spicy selfies). Safe to say they missed each other a lot.

Erwin drove to Levi to pick him up so they could make their way to his new flat together. He parked his car in front of Levi’s apartment and got out of the car so he could immediately greet his boyfriend and wrap his arms around him as tight as possible as soon as he would show up. His stomach felt like exploding as Erwin rang the doorbell and waited for Levi to come down. He was so nervous and excited to see him. It was almost the same feeling he had before their first date. Nervous, in love, excited. Only a few more - very painfully long - minutes before he was able to wrap his arms around the slim man, before he was able to feel him again, smell him, kiss him, taste him. Then finally after what felt like an eternity the front door opened. Levi dropped his things at the front door and ran up to him into Erwin’s arms. “Hey gorgeous.” Erwin chuckled. He almost lost his balance at the sudden jump at him.

“Missed me?” Erwin asked against Levi’s skin, as he buried his face into the crook of his neck.

“No, asshole.” Levi said angrily.

“Of course not.” Erwin laughed. He pulled back to look Levi into the face. Quickly he leaned in. An explosion spread within Erwin’s tummy as their lips met. Gosh, had he missed him. He was grateful for his work, and he was thankful for the opportunities he got during the past three weeks, but he truly hoped he would never ever have to be gone for so long again. To be away from Levi this long should be illegal. Erwin inhaled the delicious flower scent his boyfriend was giving off. He wanted to lick all over his body so badly. If only they could ditch the move and go up to Levi’s room instead.

“Hi.” Levi said as they broke the kiss.

“Hi.” Erwin answered. “Looking forward to an exhausting day?”

Levi nodded. “Don’t care, as long as I’ll be with you I’ll be fine.” He tried mumbling those last words, knowing exactly Erwin would not let that slide so easily.

“I thought you never wanted to say cheesy stuff ever again.” Erwin whispered. Levi had said this so many times already and yet always managed to say another cheesy thing the next time they saw each other.

“You really bring the worst in me out.” Levi pushed him away to get the stuff he dropped at his front door. It was a bag and a big wrapped bundle, most likely a painting.

“I’ll quickly have to put something in the trunk. I have to drop it off at my uni later.” Levi said as he walked over to Erwin’s car. That explained the large bundle. Levi was close to his graduation so he had a bunch of last projects to hand in. It wasn’t the first and certainly not the last art project he had to bring to the university. That’s why Erwin appreciated Levi’s and his friends’ help even more that day. They all were under so much pressure, with exams and papers to turn in and last minute art projects to finish. And yet they all made time to help Erwin during this day. “Hope it fits next to the boxes in there.” Erwin said as he used his remote to open the trunk and sat down behind the steering wheel. The trunk closed with a bang and soon Levi sat down on the passenger seat.

“Okay, let’s go.” The black haired man said as he fastened his seatbelt. But Erwin wasn’t starting the car. He just kept staring at Levi. His eyes wandering around on his face, taking in his eyes, his pointy nose, his bangs that covered half of his sharp eyebrows. Erwin couldn’t help but smile.  “What?” A dark red spreading across Levi's cheeks. “Why are you looking at me like that, pervert?”

Leaning forward, Erwin grabbed Levi’s chin and pulled him in for a kiss. “You look beautiful.” Their noses brushed together.

Levi snickered and rolled his eyes, as always terrible at taking compliments.

So Erwin decided not to pick on Levi further this time. Instead he just started the car, the grin on his face not leaving yet. They started driving into the direction of Erwin’s new place as Erwin already memorized the way.

But he had to change routes, when Levi suddenly told him about an urgent errand they had to run before the appointment.

“Can't we go there after I pick up the key? We're gonna be late.” Erwin protested - more like he tried, although he was already driving where Levi demanded him to go.

“No, it really can't wait. Just follow my instructions.” Levi placed a hand on Erwin’s thigh.

“Okay.” Erwin sighed. He knew arguing would be useless. He would lose. He always lost.

The car ride was around five minutes before they arrived at a seemingly abandoned parking lot to what might've been the start of a hiking passage into the woods a while ago. But it really seemed like no one had been here in years as the trees and bushes had been growing uncontrollably. And Levi chose a spot in a corner, giving very specific instructions on where to park the car.

“Did you bring me here to kill me?” Erwin looked over to Levi.

Levi laughed out loud. He shook his head, visible disbelief of his boyfriend not catching up on the very obvious clues. He leaned in until he reached Erwin’s ear, whispering into it. “I stretched myself out before you came to pick me up.” He unbuckled his seatbelt, reached between Erwin’s legs under the seat to pull the lever and push his seat back to have enough space to climb on top of him.

Oh.” Erwin finally picked up (there wasn’t really a lot to misunderstand when your boyfriend climbed on top of you).

Levi leaned in to smash his lips on Erwin’s. Immediately he started grinding down on Erwin’s crotch, making the tall man hum in sensation. Desperate for each other they melted into the kiss, wrapping their arms around each other, pulling the other as close as possible. Erwin took a deep breath in, taking another whiff of his boyfriend's floral scent before he broke their kiss. He placed kisses all over Levi’s face, along his jawline, his neck, his ear, leaving little bites and sucking marks everywhere. “Gosh, I have missed you so much.” Erwin whispered in between kisses. His lips vibrated against Levi's skin. “It was almost painful to be so far away from you.”

“Almost?” Levi asked cheekily.

“And you looked so good in all the selfies you sent me.” Erwin’s voice turned whiney, ignoring Levi's question - mainly because Levi knew it was painful.

“Maybe I should send you more spicy ones the next time you're on a business trip.” Levi said, grinding down his hips in a steady rhythm, feeling Erwin’s dick pressing up against him. “To let you know what you’re missing out on.”

“Do you want me to not be able to focus on my work?”

“Yes.” Levi bit on his lower lip. Erwin reached between them and grabbed Levi’s dick through his pants, making Levi throw his head and whole body back. Unfortunately. Because for a second they forgot where they were. Levi leaned back too far and pressed the middle of the steering wheel, causing the horn to go off.

They both let out a little scream, freezing on the spot. They stared at each other, not blinking, not moving, not breathing. They stayed like this for a few seconds before they looked around in a panic checking if anyone followed the sound and came up to them. But fortunately they seemed to be spared.

Their looks went back to each other, staring at each other shortly before bursting out into laughter. “Maybe this seat isn’t our best option.” Levi suggested, hinting at the row behind them. Erwin's car had darker windows in the back, which would mean a bit more privacy too.

Erwin nodded. He checked his watch and let out a sigh. “Levi, we will be late.”

Levi raised an eyebrow. “So–, you want me to stop?” He said, dragging out the ‘so’ as he started unbuttoning his shirt until his entire torso was exposed. “You could also stop yapping and fuck me already.”

A sharp inhale entered Erwin’s mouth. He checked the time again and looked back at Levi. “Fuck it, but we have to be really quick, and I’ll say we were stuck in traffic. Backseat.” He demanded quickly.

Levi grinned, well aware of the fact his boyfriend was putty in his hands. He climbed off Erwin’s lap and onto the backseat, Erwin following him close by.

Immediately Erwin pulled his shirt over his head, tossing it onto the front seat causing Levi to let out an audible gasp as he laid eyes on Erwin’s upper body. “Lay down immediately.” He demanded and Erwin followed.

“So impatient.” The biggest grin crept on Erwin’s face.

Levi placed himself on Erwin’s crotch as soon as he had laid down completely. He started feeling his body up and down, placing kisses everywhere. “I have every right to be impatient, you bastard.”

Levi unbuttoned Erwin’s pants, opened them and pulled them down just enough for his dick to be free. He quickly pulled down his own pants and underwear fully, taking his shoes off on the way, exposing his lower half completely naked.

“Levi, I didn’t bring a condom.” Erwin suddenly said.

But Levi only shrugged. He spit down in his hand and started spreading it on Erwin’s dick. “Want you to come inside of me anyways.” Levi pushed his body up and aligned his hole with Erwin’s dick. Erwin was almost sent into whiplash by how fast Levi was working. Neither of them broke eye contact once their skin touched.

“Gosh, I have missed you so much.” Levi said as he lowered his ass on Erwin’s dick. ”Never leave me alone for so long ever again.”

Little whimpers escaped Erwin’s mouth. After all this time apart from Levi, all this time imagining what his dick felt like up Levi's ass. It was almost as if imagining, and thinking about it during his work trip made it worse. Now that he was finally able to feel Levi's tight ass around his dick, it could almost make Erwin come immediately. He had missed him so much.

Quickly Levi started raising and lowering his hip, a bit hesitant still until they both adjusted. He had to change his position slightly a few times to find a good and stable posture. One hand on the front seat, one on Erwin’s chest, holding himself secure.

He started picking up pace soon, riding his boyfriend with rolling hips. Levi’s nails started digging into Erwin’s skin, leaving lanes, as his hand moved a little down with every movement. Erwin had his eyes pinned on the other, watching as his face fumbled over him filling up his ass. Gosh, he was so glad Levi suggested this. Seeing him ride like he just did drove Erwin crazy enough to already feel his orgasm approach. And although it was supposed to be a quick round so they wouldn’t be too late, he didn’t want this to end so soon. They definitely had to do this again.

Fuck, baby. You feel so good.” Erwin said, the friction of his bare dick up Levi’s ass driving him insane, unable to believe his luck. He bucked his hips up a little to adjust the position. And when Levi let out a little scream, Erwin knew it was a success.

“Right there.” Levi threw his head back as Erwin started matching his rhythm. Oh, he already was a mess. He wished he could hold him closer, pin him down, drag this out, make him come twice. But no, they had to hurry. Once this day was over they would definitely spend the rest of their night in Erwin's bed.

The tall blond reached for Levi’s dick and started pumping. Whimpers and moans escaped his mouth. It didn’t take a lot of strokes before Levi came on Erwin’s chest. The moans echoed around the car, as Erwin kept stroking Levi’s dick to help him through his orgasm. Levi really used the isolation of the car to not give a damn about the sounds he let out. Erwin wasn't sure if Levi was ever this loud before. And he loved every second of it. Erwin’s eyes wandered down on Levi’s dick and the white liquid on his belly. “Wish I could taste you right now.” He whispered.

Levi chuckled, unable to speak yet.

“I can't wait to give you a blowjob later.” Erwin said with a grin.

“Gosh, Erwin.” Levi purred, his voice already raspy from the screaming.

“Faster.” Erwin demanded. “Please.”

Levi nodded, tightened his grip on the front seat and changed the other hand to Erwin’s shoulder for better support, pushing his nails into his flesh. Erwin would be covered in marks tomorrow. It was one of Erwin’s favorite things about their sex. The subtle - sometimes not so subtle - marks they left behind on each other’s bodies.

And Levi picked up the pace, bumping up and down Erwin’s dick, making him hit deeper and deeper with each time. Erwin arched his back. The friction, gosh, the friction. The view, Levi’s gorgeous face, his smell. The feeling of warm cum on his stomach. The nails in his shoulder. Erwin was so overwhelmed by everything. It almost felt like the first time they had sex.

And Levi’s sounds. The sounds that were filling the car. Erwin’s eyes rolled back as he grabbed Levi’s hip to hold him secure, and came right into his ass. Levi let out another moan at the warm feeling that was spreading inside of his ass.

He stopped moving, mostly so nothing escaped his ass and ruined Erwin’s pants that were still half on. And if Erwin was honest, he didn't want Levi to leave his dick yet. Him sitting there not moving, catching his breath, warming Erwin's dick. What a perfect moment.

Erwin was panting. “We’re gonna be so late.” He chuckled.

Levi smirked. “Mhm, don’t care.” He leaned down to give Erwin a kiss. It was supposed to be a short kiss, but he melted into it instead, unable to quench his thirst for the blond adonis. Erwin was so glad to have him back. And he was so excited for the time when he finished his move and they could lock themselves up in Erwin’s new flat (his bedroom) and not leave it for days.

Levi carefully lifted his ass up and quickly placed a hand under his ass to catch everything that was leaking from it.

“I hope you brought wipes.” Erwin sat up.

Levi gave him the look.

Of course he brought them. “You really think I'm preparing for car sex, in your car, that you filthy motherfucker only clean when I tell you to and I wouldn't bring wet wipes?” Plus they were sticky with sweat and cum, he wouldn’t put his clothes on top of that. “First thing we might have to use in your flat is your shower.” He reached into his bag and pulled out a package with wet wipes.

Erwin nodded. “I agree.”

“Then we could talk about that blowjob you mentioned earlier.” Levi said as he was cleaning himself up and pulling out a few wipes to hand them over to Erwin. His tone was serious.

Erwin let out a loud laugh. “Unable to satisfy.”

“You need to make up for three weeks, Erwin. Let me repeat that. Three. Fucking. Weeks.” Levi said angrily a little whine was put at the end of the sentence. “I deep cleaned our flat five times, our furniture is starting to lose color. Izzy and Furlan almost moved out because they were annoyed with me. And they were with me on blaming you and your stupid dick.” He was almost shouting at Erwin. And to add to his anger, Erwin couldn't do anything else but smile.

“I missed you, too.” Erwin said as he gave Levi a quick kiss on the cheek. The other rolled his eyes, mumbling a little whatever while he was putting his pants and shoes back on.

Luckily Erwin’s new landlady was very understanding. “You really picked the worst time to drive here. The traffic is always horrible this time around, it’s no wonder you were a little late. But it’s no problem, sweetheart.” Levi almost couldn’t stay serious through the conversation. And as soon as the landlady left after she gave Erwin the keys and gave him a few more instructions, they burst out laughing.

“I feel so bad, she’s so sweet.” Levi hid his face in his hands.

“We were only ten minutes late. I think it’s fine.” Erwin pulled him in for a hug. He wrapped his arms around Levi tightly, glad that he could finally hug him again. He inhaled his scent. Erwin wondered if there would ever be a time where he would have enough of Levi’s scent (there wouldn’t). He really was stupidly in love.

“I can’t believe this era is finally coming to an end.” Erwin whispered.

“Hm?” Levi pulled back to take a look at Erwin’s face. He met him with a soft smile.

“All of the stress, the terrible time the past months, the first months of our relationship.” Erwin pushed Levi’s bangs behind his ear. “You really made me get through all of this.”

Levi rolled his eyes. “It wasn’t just me. It was the both of us, and the others too.”

“I mean it Levi. You didn’t have to stay.”

“Yeah, I did.” Levi gave Erwin a slap on his chest. “Kinda love ya’, you know.”

“Do’ya?” Erwin grinned and pulled Levi in for a deep kiss. The way Levi’s lips pressed against his sent butterflies through his stomach. They were so soft and warm, Erwin didn’t want to let go.

It was when the keys in his hands started dangling as he clenched around the bundle that pulled Erwin back into reality, almost losing himself to his boyfriend's lips. The bundle included three flat keys (they worked for the front door and his flat) and two mail box keys.

Erwin took a deep breath in as he let go of Levi. “Levi,” he said, his tone unnecessarily serious, but he was nervous to address what was on his mind. After all, this might be a big step.

Levi pulled back. “What?”

“I-I thought.” Erwin mumbled, fumbling the keys in his hand. He hadn't been this nervous around Levi for a while now.

“Spit it out, blondie.”

Erwin removed a flat key off of the bundle. “I want you to have this.”

Levi blinked at the key that was being held in front of his face. “Wait, are you asking me what I think you’re asking me?”

Erwin shook his head. “The past months have been crazy, and with your graduation coming up, I wouldn’t want you to have more stress with moving.” Levi was raising an eyebrow. Gosh, Erwin did a terrible job.

“I-it’s not that I don’t want us to move in together. Just-” Erwin stumbled over his words.

“Maybe have some normality first.” Levi cackled.

Erwin’s shoulders loosened. “Exactly.” His focus got back to the key in his hand. “I still want you to have this. When we started dating, you knew where the spare key for my old flat was, so you should have your own for this one.”

Levi smiled. “So I can come over whenever Furlan and Isabel get on my nerves?”

“Even if they don’t.” Erwin whispered. Levi grabbed the key excitedly and hugged Erwin tightly. “And eventually we could talk about moving in together again when the time is right.”

“Sounds like a good plan.” Levi answered.

Erwin smiled into the crook of Levi’s neck. He really wanted to move in with Levi eventually but as for now, their relationship started insanely complicated, so until they both settled into a regular life, Erwin knew it was better for them to still live apart for a bit. And once they would move in together a whole new chapter would start, that Erwin was already looking forward to.

“I have to admit,” Levi suddenly said. Erwin pulled back. His eyebrows frowned. “I lied earlier.”

“What?”

Levi took a step back and walked over to the bundle he stored away earlier. Erwin wasn’t sure when Levi brought this up here but maybe his brain was too fucked out or stressed about his new apartment to notice that he was carrying it.

“I didn't have to bring this over to my university.” Levi said as he reached into his bag to pull out a hammer and a nail. Levi took a quick look around the hallway, analyzing each nook and wall, until he ultimately seemed to have found what he was looking for. He walked over to the most prominent spot of the hallway. The wall across the apartment door. Levi took the nail and hammer and put the nail into the wall, Erwin watching him like a hawk, unsure of his plans.

The hammer quickly flew back into his bag before Levi started unwrapping the bundle and hanging up the canvas he pulled out. Erwin moved around, trying to get a glimpse of the painting he was putting up.

And when Levi finally took a step back, so Erwin was able to take a proper look at it, his heart almost combusted from love and happiness and warmth and all the feelings he was able to feel at the same time. Unable to breathe, his breath got stuck in his lung.

In front of him was a painting with a tall blonde man on a bench in the middle of a park with flowers and trees surrounding him.

“You finished it.” Erwin whispered. It was the painting he requested months ago. The very painting that brought them together. The reason why they met up the first time back then. In all the stress and new adjustments the past months Erwin had almost forgotten about it. “Levi, it is gorgeous. I’m speechless.”

Levi’s mouth curved up. He nodded as he walked back to Erwin. “I actually did a few weeks ago. But I had to do a presentation about it in my class.” He bumped against Erwin in a playful way. “Brought me my best grade yet. It’s truly my masterpiece.”

“And you’re gifting it to me.” Erwin couldn’t stop smiling. His eyes were pinned on the canvas. “What did you say in the presentation?” He stepped a little closer to take a proper look at it. It was probably the prettiest piece of art he had ever seen. That was him. Levi really ended up drawing him. Erwin in this field of flowers, on that bench in that park next to Levi’s flat. The location where their relationship started forming. The one spot where they both were able to escape to when they wanted to get to know each other.

“That this painting symbolizes freedom and passion, that it’s about letting go and finding yourself, about endings and beginnings. How no matter how terrible a situation might seem, you can always search for the beauty in life, in nature, to find distraction and beauty.” Levi said behind Erwin, who was focused on the painting. “And that it is about love.”

Erwin turned around to face Levi. He was surprised at the words escaping his boyfriend’s mouth. He started grinning. Something Erwin loved so much about Levi, he always seemed so rough and tough. Some may mistake him as cold and aloof at first. And even with Erwin he often tried to keep this attitude. But he never actually managed to do so. Erwin was sure Levi loved being lovey-dovey and saying these cheesy things, filled with his deepest feelings. Because at the end of the day - although he would never admit it - Levi was a deeply romantic guy, with a big hard shell, that was easy to crack if you just knew how. “I bet it was the first time your teachers heard you say something so corny.”

“And luckily, will be the last time.”

Erwin stepped closer to wrap his arms around Levi’s neck. He placed their foreheads together. “I love you. Thank you.” His voice was quiet, almost as if he tried to make sure only Levi heard these words, despite them being alone.

“Love you, too.”

Erwin pulled his face back. “Did you give it a name?”

Levi nodded. His cheeks started filling with a red color. Erwin knew, whatever was about to come, it was the most embarrassing speech that had ever escaped Levi’s mouth. And this time he knew, it was best to not tease him.

“Flower of Fate.” Levi said silently.

“I don’t usually believe in fate, but it does feel like fate brought us together, making this possible, our relationship - us - blooming into the prettiest spring flower. The one flower that blossomed after the cold winter. The one flower to stick out in a field filled with flowers. The one to draw all the attention. The one of a kind love.”

Erwin was so glad he was looking into Levi’s face when he was saying these things, because never before had he seen a look so fond on his boyfriend’s face. Never before was his look so soft, his voice almost trembling. His cheeks tinted pink, like the color of a spring rose. Erwin loved him so much. He just couldn’t believe how his body was able to feel this amount of love. And how he was lucky enough to find it in this person right in front of him. Erwin didn’t smile. His body was frozen. He just looked at Levi. He looked him deep in his eyes. His whole world was caught in these eyes. Erwin couldn’t look away, he was afraid to never see this look again, to never witness Levi this vulnerable ever again.

“Levi, I’m so blessed to have you in my life. I don’t think I tell you often enough.” Erwin started, tears started forming in the corner of his eyes. “I can’t believe this painting is what started all of this, and that you brought it back to me.”

Levi chuckled lightly, his cheeks slowly turning a darker red.

“You have really no idea how much I love you, Levi Ackerman.” A single tear rolled down Erwin’s face. He really was an emotional mess today.

Erwin leaned down to meet their lips, his arms still wrapped around Levi’s neck. Levi wrapped his arms tightly around Erwin’s waist, pulling him closer. Erwin was able to feel how Levi grabbed the back of his shirt, holding him in place. Their bodies melted together as they deepened the kiss. Erwin carefully opened his lips, and Levi did the same. Their tongues started dancing in their mouths, tasting each other. Erwin pulled Levi closer and closer, getting frustrated when he couldn’t pull him any closer. He wanted to hold Levi in his arms like this forever, not willing to let go of him any time soon. It almost felt like a second first kiss, like the start of a new chapter. Like this was the second beginning of their relationship. Erwin was sure, with Levi by his side, he could deal with anything in this world. The past months have proven him exactly this. Erwin always knew how much he needed Levi. How big his love for him was. But before this moment Erwin hadn’t really realized just how much Levi needed him too. And to hear these hopeful words out of Levi’s mouth meant everything to Erwin. Their love was unique, it was one of a kind. And as long as they had each other they would always be fine.

Unfortunately they were soon interrupted by the doorbell ringing when a few minutes later everybody else started arriving. Moblit and Hanji came with a van and brought some old furniture they got at a second hand shop or from friends from their lab. After them Furlan and Isabel arrived with the new bought bed that Erwin ordered to their place a while back. They had to take a big taxi because they certainly couldn’t transport this any other way. So Erwin quickly paid the taxi and they all brought the different packages for it upstairs.

Chaos broke loose after everybody soon received their very own dedicated task for the day. Hanji and Levi started building the bed and other furniture while Furlan, Isabel and Moblit started unboxing some boxes.

And Erwin. Erwin took a break from helping here and there, commanding everybody around, shouting around where to put what, to take another proper look at the painting. He truly couldn’t believe the emotions Levi was able to captivate in this painting. Erwin was aware it was him in that painting. And yet - was that truly him?

The person in the picture was so at ease, so happy, so carefree. Enjoying the spring breeze while watching nature. He was pretty sure Levi drew him wearing the exact same outfit he wore, when Levi and him met for the first time. A white button up with the checked grey pants Levi loved so much. Only a few months into their relationship Levi admitted that he loved these pants so much because they were too tight - everywhere - and that he always got a delicious view on his ass and his dick whenever he wore them. But Levi forbade Erwin to throw them away. In fact he encouraged him. “If I were you I would wear them more often.” Was what he was saying to Erwin - of course, Erwin did.

Erwin stepped even closer to the painting, really taking in the details of his facial features. His mouth dropped open by the sheer talent his boyfriend had. His painting self being so at peace - was this how Levi saw him? Even after all these months of stress he still didn’t change his relieved look.

Seeing himself like this calmed Erwin. It really had gotten better. The months of pain, the months of self doubt. They all paid off. He was in his new flat, with the people that meant most to him. He was loving the most wonderful man that existed, and even better that man also loved him back. His future was bright, for once he was excited for what was to come, for his life, his life with Levi, and their friends, for the life along with his sibling. For his job, his career. For all of it, for every aspect, for every moment, every sad one, every beautiful one. For all the laughs and all the tears. He was-

Happy.

For the first time in his life. Erwin was happy. He was his true self. He was being loved for his true self, he was being cared for for his true self.

And suddenly the person in the painting didn’t seem so strange anymore. Suddenly he realized it was him in this painting. Suddenly it was like looking into a mirror. Maybe this wasn’t him when Levi and him first met, but it was the person he had become. All these months ago, Levi had already seen the potential, seen the person Erwin could become if he would finally find happiness.

And he did.

“Erwin, need your help.” Levi shouted, disrupting Erwin’s thoughts.

Erwin smiled as he wiped his tears away. “Coming.”

-

It was already dark for a while when the others left. They managed to unpack every single box and assemble all the furniture. His flat was still looking a bit empty considering Erwin was missing a few pieces and some decoration here and there, but he got the most important things down. Luckily the flat came with a built-in kitchen, so the most annoying part was done even before he moved in.

He said goodbye to Moblit and Hanji and Furlan and Isabel accompanying them on their way down before he came back to his flat. Levi was laying on his couch, his hair in strands from the sweat that formed on his forehead throughout the day. Erwin smiled as he watched his boyfriend. He looked so peaceful and Erwin could tell he was almost dozing off. And yet he decided to sit next to him and disturb him.

“Are you okay?” Erwin stroked Levi’s hair out of his face, who was letting out a small huff before taking a deep breath in and opening his eyes.

Levi smiled fondly as he nodded. “We worked a lot quicker today than I expected.”

Erwin nodded. “I’m so glad we got everything done today, so we wouldn’t need another meet up.”

Levi hummed in agreement as he stretched his limbs. “I’m exhausted and I feel dirty. I’m gonna take a shower.” With a quick peck on Erwin's lips, Levi rushed up and walked over to the bathroom.

“Enjoy the first shower of this apartment.” Erwin shouted after him. Smirking in fact, he hadn’t forgotten about their talk in the car earlier and what they wanted to do in the shower. But he loved teasing Levi, so he’ll take a bit before he’d join him in the shower. He knew he’d get annoyed with him - and Erwin loved that.

Erwin heard the water streaming in the bathroom. He got up to walk over to the hallway and take yet another look at the painting. It still filled him with so much joy. Levi truly chose the perfect spot for it. Anybody that walked into the flat was forced to look at it. Forced to look at this ideal happy version of Erwin, drawn by his love.

His heart blossomed looking at the piece decorating his apartment. The one piece that changed the course of his existence.

Erwin smiled as he headed towards the shower, taking off his clothes before he opened the bathroom door and walked over to the shower.

He opened the shower door. “Space for one more?” Erwin asked.

Levi turned around, his hair was already wet and slicked back. His eyes wandered down to Erwin’s dick, he took a sharp breath in. “I thought you forgot about it.” Levi hissed. Oh, he was mad. Success.

“Never.” Erwin smirked, ecstatic about the mad expression on Levi’s face.

Erwin rushed into the shower, closing the door behind him. He pushed Levi against the wall. Water running down their bodies. Their dicks were touching, making them both get hard in an instant. Erwin grinded against his boyfriend. His head dropped onto Levi's shoulder immediately as waves of pleasure echoed through his body. It already felt like ages again since the last time they made out even though it was only hours ago. But when it came to Levi Erwin was insatiable. Especially after being away for weeks.

But just as Erwin went in for another grind to solidify his erection Levi reached for his shampoo and pushed Erwin away. Nonchalantly he put some shampoo on his hand.

“So?” Levi asked as he spread the shampoo within his hair, foam covering his scalp. The scene was amusing to Erwin, Levi playing cool and hard to get, while his dick was pointing upwards, hard as a rock. Just as much as Erwin enjoyed annoying Levi, so did Levi enjoy annoying Erwin. While both always knew that they were in fact not as indifferent about each other as they would want the other to think.

Erwin bit his lip. “I hate when you’re being this cocky.” Big fat lie.

Levi held his head under the brushing water, rinsing out the shampoo. “No, you don’t.” Levi grinned mischievously, knowing his boyfriend damn well. He crossed his arms expectantly.

Without breaking eye contact Erwin got down on his knees, the cold tiles against his knees sending shivers through his body. He pulled Levi between the wall and him and pushed him against the wall again, to fixate his movement.

“Truly need to make up for the three weeks, huh?” Erwin let out a chuckle.

“You were the one telling me you wanted to taste- ah.” Erwin pushed his mouth down on Levi’s dick. Like a magnet Levi’s hands were drawn into Erwin’s wet hair, grabbing it to give himself a sense of stability.

“Shut your pretty mouth.” Erwin quickly said as he pulled back, before he pushed back down.

And gosh. He really did need to taste Levi. His dick tasted amazing and he missed this taste. The perfect start into his new flat. Just him blowing his boyfriend, hearing the sounds he made when he was being pleasured. It was like music to Erwin’s ears. He loved fucking Levi, but there was something so beautiful about giving him a blowjob. The sounds that were ringing through the room were enough to cause Erwin to get close already as well.

Erwin swung Levi around. He pulled his cheeks apart to push his tongue into his hole.

“Fuck, blondie, are you nuts?” Levi shouted at him, his hands pushing against the wall.

Erwin pushed his tongue in and out, eating out Levi like his life depended on it (it did). Whines and whimpers left Levi’s mouth as his nails desperately tried digging into the tiles of the wall. Gosh, how Erwin wished his back was the wall to feel Levi’s nails in his skin. With a quick toss he turned him back around, replaced his tongue with a finger or two, and pushed his mouth back on Levi’s dick. Erwin was hungry, and this was his dinner.

Levi’s toes started curling. “Erwin, I’m gonna explode. Fuck, you’re insane.” Levi reached into Erwin’s wet hair again pulling it tightly as his legs seemed to give in.

But Erwin held him up, supported him to stay on his feet. While he kept bopping his head up and down, driving Levi closer to his orgasm with every bop. With his free hand he swung one of Levi’s legs over his shoulder to give him proper support.

Erwin knew Levi was close, but he didn’t want it to end yet. He needed more of Levi, needed to taste more of him, he wanted to hear more of his beautiful sounds, although he knew he would have enough chances in the future. But he was impatient. He wanted all of it now, he needed all of it now. He pulled his head back to place kisses everywhere, Levi’s balls, the inside of his thigh, his tummy. Levi tried catching his breath as Erwin allowed him a small break.

“Gosh, baby, I have missed you so much. I can never leave you behind again for this long.” Erwin whispered against Levi’s skin. The water from the shower dripped down his face.

“Did you think of me a lot?”

“All the time.” Erwin wrapped his fingers around Levi’s dick giving it a few pumps as he continued plastering Levi’s body with kisses, licks, bite marks and hickies.

“Pleasured yourself while thinking of me?” Levi’s voice dropped low.

“Yes.” Erwin admitted.

“Mhm, my poor big guy.” Levi reached for Erwin’s chin to pull his look up. Their eyes met. Levi’s lips formed into a smile as his eyes wandered around on Erwin’s face, taking in every inch of his boyfriend’s face. “Make me come then.” He finally said after a few moments.

Erwin nodded. He really didn’t want it to end, and yet he couldn’t wait to hear Levi’s moans once he’d come.

So he pushed his mouth back down on Levi’s dick, all why he continued pumping his fingers in and out. He needed Levi to be a mess. And feeling his body shaking meant Erwin was very much successful.

Levi started shouting when he started coming, his shaking intensified. He didn’t even bother to warn Erwin, because he knew all Erwin wanted after these three weeks apart was to feel Levi’s cum to run down his throat. So when Levi finally came into Erwin’s mouth, he swallowed it. All of it. And with his free hand he started stroking his own cock while tasting all of his boyfriend.

Levi watched the whole scene happen. Eyes dark, meeting Erwin’s as he continued pumping his own erection, his mouth still completely filled with Levi’s dick. And Erwin just swallowed while he was masturbating and pumping a finger into Levi’s hole at the same time.

He was actually proud of his multitasking.

Tears started forming at the corner of Erwin’s eyes. His orgasm hit him like a truck, when he finally came all over the shower floor, humming around Levi’s dick. He stayed like this as long as he could manage, but unfortunately at some point he had to let go of Levi’s dick, as he slowly started to suffocate.

Gasping for air his legs gave in and he collapsed on the floor, his arms doing their best at least holding his upper body up. Moaning. Whimpering. Coughing. He was sad it was over, and once he would have caught his breath he’d definitely ask for round two. Levi slid down the wall to join Erwin on the floor. His hand ran up and down Erwin’s back to calm him and support him through these immense waves of pleasure.

“Good boy.” Levi said, pushing Erwin’s hair back. He gave him a small kiss on the top of his head. Erwin chuckled.

They stayed like this for a bit, both of them trying to catch their breaths and enjoying the feelings of their orgasms. Erwin sat up straight and pulled Levi onto his lap. Although the shower floor wasn’t exactly comfortable, he needed his boyfriend closer. He needed to hold him. So he quickly wrapped his arms around Levi’s slim waist and pushed his face into the crook of Levi’s neck. Levi wrapped his arms around Erwin’s neck, carefully stroking his wet hair.

“Shower inaugurated?” Levi asked.

Erwin cackled against Levi’s skin. “Not yet.” He whispered causing Levi to smirk.

-

Erwin’s mental health improved even more, once he finally had his own flat. He had already started feeling so much better after he started his new job, but finding an own apartment and finally being free and independent was really the last bit that was missing in his life. Although he still had bad days from time to time, sometimes bad weeks, he was feeling great - finally.

Four months had passed since the day he moved. Erwin had adjusted well in his new flat. The first few weekends were just as he hoped they would be. Just him and Levi locking themselves up in there, doing it in every room of the apartment. Them falling asleep together, laughing together, catching up on all the things they couldn’t enjoy the months before, all the events that they couldn’t enjoy the first months of them being together.

They started having game nights, and dinner evenings. Levi stayed over at Erwin’s flat when Erwin wasn’t home. They started adding new decor to the flat, most of which Levi had chosen. Buying new furniture whenever Erwin had money to spare that month.

They got drunk. They fucked some more. Two days later they were fighting. They made up, told each other how much they loved each other. It was like their love ignited all over again, it was like they both were falling in love with each other over and over and over again. They could never get enough of the other. Talking until they passed out, juvenile pajama parties, dancing in their living room, holding the other close, hugging, kissing. All of the things they had to catch up on.

They reached a peak couple time - as Levi called it - when they started having double and triple dates. Them and Moblit and Hanji. Them and Furlan and his new boyfriend (the guy he had a crush on for years at this point). Them and Isabel and her new boyfriend. Them and all of their loved ones with their spouses. Erwin was beyond happy being surrounded by so many people that loved him so deeply, and that he loved so deeply as well.

Levi and his friends graduated university. Erwin took a million pictures during their graduation ceremony, and when all of their names were called out to come out on the stage, Erwin, Hanji and Moblit jumped up, shouted and clapped for every single one of them. It was a joyful day for all of them.

While Isabel and Furlan quickly found jobs - Isabel as a graphic designer, Furlan as a book illustrator for children’s books - Levi struggled a bit in the beginning on what he wanted to do. First he continued his job as a waiter, while he was looking for a new job. He didn’t want to give up art in canvas form, as it was where his passion was rooted, but finding jobs in that field was very difficult. The situation was hard on Levi. It made him sad and angry and frustrated. All of these years of hard work leading up to his graduation and it felt like all of his invested time wouldn’t pay off. Erwin was glad he was able to be there for Levi during that time. Helping him search around for jobs, driving him to job interviews and giving him motivational speeches when Levi didn’t know what to do, and how to decide. Overall Levi was insanely stressed out during this time. And just as Levi held Erwin during his hardships, Erwin held Levi during his.

Until a few weeks after he graduated, an unknown number called him.

He almost didn’t pick up, usually ignoring unknown numbers, but he was smoking outside of Erwin’s flat and was bored so he just clicked accept. It was a gallery where they held an exhibition from their university during his first year. They apparently followed along Levi’s art journey since then, as they immediately saw potential in him. So once they heard about his graduation they had to find out his contact details.

They offered him a job as the art gallery manager, responsible for exhibitions, managing inventory, and working on the installation of new projects. Just everything surrounding exhibitions. Apparently they could immediately tell that he would perform fantastic at organizing events as his view for detail they could see in his paintings was ‘beyond anything they had ever seen before’. Levi melted at the shower of compliments.

After the call ended he immediately ran back to Erwin to tell him all about it. Erwin had never seen his boyfriend so lively and excited. And after two very tough job interviews that Levi was invited to, he was accepted and started working the following month. The beginning was hard and exhausting, as it was so much new stuff he had to learn. Erwin helped him a little here and there about business planning or marketing. Levi worked a ton, but Erwin was able to see how much Levi blossomed in his newfound profession and they still managed to find some couple time here and there, suddenly realizing how precious even ten minute car rides would be for them.

And although Levi didn’t get to draw as much as he used to and even though it wasn’t exactly what he imagined as his job, he still loved organizing exhibitions and being surrounded by art all this time. The gallery even allowed him to display one of his own pieces in the first exhibition he organized.

One time when Erwin got a bonus at his job, he went ahead and spent a lot of it on an easel and some painting equipment, to build Levi his own little art corner in Erwin’s apartment.

“Are you kidding me?” Levi couldn’t believe his eyes, when Erwin removed his hands from them, after he had guided him into the corner blindfolded.

“You always complain how you have no time to draw anymore, and how much you miss the studio of your university. And that way whenever you’re here and you feel creative-” Erwin hinted at the easel. He smiled as he pushed Levi’s hair behind his ear. “Plus, I can watch you draw, so win-win.”

“This is incredible. I’m so happy.”

Of course Levi immediately had to try out the brushes and paints Erwin had gotten him.

And sometimes on the weekends Erwin woke up in an empty bed, hearing humming from the other room with the art corner. Although the price he had to pay was waking up alone, seeing Levi paint was worth it. He made coffee and just sat next to him to watch. It felt like the beginning of their relationship when Erwin started realizing how beautiful the man was. And after all the months of major life changes, it was these calm mornings when Erwin realized just how Levi truly was the love of his life.

-

It was a cold but sunny day, the time where winter started ending but spring wasn’t quite there yet.

They all gathered for a group photo to celebrate the newlyweds. Of course Erwin had to be placed right next to them, and even between them in some pictures as he was the best man for both of them.

Levi was standing more on the side, which was perfectly fine for him. Until Hanji decided to pull him in and pick him up bridal style. “Take a picture of me with the mini-man.” They shouted at their photographer. Levi half angry, half bursting out laughing enjoyed their little moment.

Just as he expected them, Hanji and him grew incredibly close. Although they fought a lot - more like bickering - he loved them very much. And he knew Hanji loved him too.

The wedding wasn’t too big. It was mainly Moblit’s and Hanji’s friends, Moblit’s family, a lot of people from their laboratory and even Isabel and Furlan got invited. Nobody from Hanji’s and Erwin’s family came, nor were they invited. The ceremony was held in the townhall. It was surprisingly emotional and not as funny as one would expect from the two. No eye was left dry as the guests witnessed the two smitten lovers reading their vows.

As so often they wore matching suits. Moblit a white one with a black vest, Hanji a black one with a white vest. Hanji a tie, Moblit a bow tie.

“Solemnly I pronounce you, Hanji and Moblit Zoe.” The wedding speaker announced.

Everybody gave the two a standing ovation, shouted, clapped, whistled as the two got their first kiss as a married couple. Moblit grabbed Hanji’s tie to pull them as close as possible. Tears were streaming down his face.

Isabel turned to Levi. “Zoe?”

“The last name of Hanji’s and Erwin’s grandmother. She was the first one to encourage Hanji to do whatever they wanted to and live a carefree life.” Levi explained. “Unfortunately she died when they were in their teens and Hanji took her last name once they moved out.”

“That’s so sweet.” Isabel’s eyes started getting watery again.

Levi turned to Erwin who was just covered in tears. “Babe, are you alright?” Levi cackled and reached for a tissue to dry his tears.

“I’m just so happy for them.” Erwin managed to say in between his sobs.

Moblit and Hanji started making their way out of the hall passing everybody as they were walking out, hands intertwined raised into the air.

Once they took pictures outside of the townhall the entire party relocated to the restaurant they booked. They had a large buffet and an open bar. In one corner they had a little ‘game’ table with experiment sets for children, so all of their guests could experience being a scientist for an evening.

Just before they started storming the buffet they held speeches. Moblit’s parents, Hanji and Moblit each, and lastly of course Erwin. It was as sappy as it could get. Erwin’s voice was cracking right from the beginning. He shared all of their funniest moments together, how his first interaction with Moblit went, how Moblit has grown to be his own brother - that comment made Moblit absolutely bawl - how thankful he was for both of them, and their relationship. How they both became their role models and in a sense his replacement parents. The entire room was sniffling and Hanji and Moblit fell into Erwin’s arms once he was done.

“Okay, I totally ruined the mood. Now everybody go eat that amazing food, drink a lot and let’s celebrate together.” Erwin shouted as soon as Moblit and Hanji let go of him. He raised his glass. “To Moblit and Hanji.” He shouted into the mic and got a great response from the crowd.

After everybody took a sip from their drink, first people started their way to the buffet.

The remaining evening went on smoothly and funny. After the dinner the whole party started flooding the dance floor as music came blasting from the DJ’s speakers. It truly was one hell of a party.

After he had already danced for hours, sweat dripping down from his forehead, Erwin checked his watch while he was dancing with Isabel and Furlan. Almost midnight. His eyes wandered around. To his surprise Levi wasn’t on the dance floor anymore. He was sitting at their table, watching the crowd fondly. Levi waved once their eyes met.

Erwin stepped out of the crowd to walk over to his boyfriend. On his way over he grabbed a glass of champagne that was on one of the tablets standing around.

He let himself drop next to Levi and gave him a quick kiss.

“Hi.” Levi giggled. “Drunk?”

“Just tipsy.” He leaned forward. “Is it suspicious I want to kiss my boyfriend?”

Levi shook his head. “You just seem happy.”

“I am.” Erwin smiled. “This entire day was perfect.”

Levi intertwined their fingers. “It was.”

“Why’d you stop dancing?”

Levi shrugged his shoulders. “Loved watching you guys.”

Erwin’s eyes wandered over to the crowd and spotted Isabel and Furlan now dancing together with Hanji and Moblit. Immediately Erwin understood what Levi meant. Their lives really perfectly melted together. The scene was warming Erwin’s heart.

Erwin quickly took another look at his watch.

Midnight.

Erwin put away his glass of champagne and took his hand back. He cleared his throat as he reached into the inside pocket of his jacket. He took out a black velvet box.

“Happy anniversary.” He said as he handed Levi the box.

Levi’s eyes wandered down on the box. He smirked as he hesitantly reached for it. Carefully he opened it. He let out a little gasp before he held his breath entirely, admiring the piece of jewelry that was staring back at him. Inside was a bracelet. It was a silver ring bracelet, with flowers engraved on it.

“Erwin.” Levi said once he was finally able to breathe again. His mouth dropped open as he picked it out of the box to properly look at it. His fingers ran over the flowers

“You gave me a painting with flowers. So I thought flowers are our topic now.”

Levi opened and closed his mouth, unable to form any proper sentence. “This is gorgeous,” was all he could whisper after a bit.

“Read the inscription,” Erwin whispered. He placed his chin on Levi’s shoulder to hear him read the words. He closed his eyes.

“To my love, my anchor, my world. Forever yours. -E” Levi whispered, his voice was trembling.

“I know it’s cheesy-” Erwin wasn’t entirely sure if Levi liked it, as he rarely had seen Levi so speechless and calm.

“No,not at all.” Levi immediately interrupted Erwin. His eyes were still pinned down on the bracelet. “It’s-” His fingers ran over the flowers again. He pushed it over his wrist and closed it. “It’s perfect.”

Levi’s cheeks turned red. “I-, gosh, I’m never speechless.” Levi turned to Erwin, who raised his head to finally meet his boyfriend's eyes.

“Thank you.” Levi cupped Erwin’s face, tracing his cheek with his thumb. It was like Levi was still thinking about what to say. But when Erwin melted into his touch it felt like they said all the things that needed to be said. They leaned in to meet their lips. “Happy anniversary.” Levi whispered in between their kisses.

Erwin stood up and pulled Levi up with him to hug him tightly. He leaned down as he wrapped his arms around Levi’s waist to pull him as close as possible. Levi put his arms around Erwin’s neck and did the same. His face was right next to Erwin’s ear. The bass of the music sent waves through their bodies. He kept holding up his arm to take another look at the bracelet.

“I love you so much, Erwin. The way you make me feel is beyond anything I have ever imagined.” He said, causing Erwin to just pull him even closer. The way their bodies wrapped around each other, their hearts banging against each other's chest, their breaths entering each other's ears. Everything felt so peaceful with the way they were standing there, holding each other, knowing they could never let the other go again. One year had passed since they officially got together. Erwin couldn’t believe it had already been a year, and at the same time it felt like he had known Levi his entire life. The feelings that were spreading within Erwin were overwhelming and hard to describe. But the only thing he needed to know for sure was the fact that he was insanely happy and loving the man in his arms more than he ever expected to love anyone.

After a while Erwin finally loosened their embrace. He pulled back to have a look at Levi, softly pushing his bangs behind his ear, cupping Levi’s face.

Levi looked up to Erwin. His eyes closed, as he leaned into Erwin’s touch, a smile on his lips. His hand he placed on Erwin’s.

Erwin watched Levi’s face like a movie. Like he could spend eternity standing there and looking at the fond expression his boyfriend was wearing. “What are you thinking about, my love?”

Levi’s eyes opened. And it was obvious he tried to think of an answer. An answer to sum up everything he was feeling. An answer that was philosophical. Instead he just shook his head as he led out a snicker. “Us. I'm just- I'm just really fucking happy, Erwin.”

The word choice made Erwin snicker. He pulled him in again, wrapping his arms around his neck, carefully leaning down a bit to put his head on Levi’s shoulder, inhaling his flowery scent. “Me too.”

- 7 Years later -

Erwin opened the mailbox that was attached to the wall next to their front door. He bowed down a little to see if a letter was inside. As his eyes landed on a white envelope Erwin reached inside and pulled it out. He closed the little door to their mail box as he turned the letter until he finally found a sender. A loud gasp escaped his mouth as Erwin’s eyes widened, and he quickly opened the front door.

“Babe, I’m home.” He shouted into the house. Erwin dropped the bag that was hanging on his shoulder on the floor and immediately opened the envelope to pull out a piece of paper. His hands were shaking as his eyes flew over the text, taking in the information written as quickly as possible.

“You’re home early.” Levi peaked around the corner. He walked up to him to give him a quick kiss. But Erwin was frozen and almost didn’t react. Levi’s eyebrows frowned as he pulled back and saw Erwin’s face pale as a wall. “Babe, what’s wrong?”

“Levi.” Erwin didn’t manage to say much more as he held out the letter to Levi.

Levi took the piece and started reading it as well. And just as Erwin’s, his eyes widened in disbelief. A gasp escaped his lips as he restarted reading the letter to make sure he read correctly. “Oh my gosh.” Levi placed a hand on Erwin’s chest.

“Yeah.”

“Erwin, oh my gosh.” Levi jumped up into Erwin’s arms, his eyes not leaving the written words, reading them over and over again. “I’m so relieved, they took so long. It made me worry so much.” Almost stumbling over his own words, Levi was rambling.

“Me too.” Erwin said as he pulled Levi closer. Tears started falling down his cheeks as he inhaled Levi’s scent, like he always did when they saw each other for the first time after a work day. Flower scent. As wonderful as always.

Erwin chuckled as he let Levi down on his feet. Levi ‘s free hand wandered up to Erwin’s face to cup his cheek gently. With a giggle Levi carefully wiped Erwin’s tears away with his thumb and soon they melted into a deep kiss. “Gosh, I love you so much.” Erwin said once they broke their kiss for another deep hug. He pressed their foreheads against each other.

“I love you too.” Levi said with a smile as they loosened their grip on each other. Levi took the piece of paper in both hands again, to reread it once more.

“You’re making sure it’s no mistake?” Erwin let out a cackle as he leaned down to take his shoes off before he put them neatly on the shoe rack. He rushed back to Levi and hugged him from behind to join him reading the letter.

“Hell yeah, they better not mess this up. We’ve been waiting for two years.” Levi’s eyes scanned the letter, turned it around, turned it back around and read it all over again, tracing the words with his fingers.

Erwin let go of Levi, who started walking towards the kitchen, Erwin following right behind him. He watched him fondly as Levi pinned the letter to their fridge. Knowing his partner well, Erwin grabbed a pen and handed it to Levi, who took the pen with a smile to mark the most important sentence on the paper.

Levi walked over to hug Erwin from the side, who in response wrapped his arms around Levi, both of their looks pinned on the sentence that was circled by Levi. “I’m so happy.” Levi said. “I hope they hurry up.”

Erwin gave Levi a kiss on the top of his head. “Me too, Baby.”

Levi turned to Erwin and looked up to him with a smile.

“Dinner?” Erwin asked.

“Dinner.” Levi replied.

“What are you craving for dinner, my love?” Erwin asked as he pushed Levi’s hair behind his ear. It has gotten quite long again. Soon he would start complaining about his fringe getting into his eyes.

Levi thought about his options for a couple of seconds before he answered confidently. “Pasta.” He exclaimed.

“I don’t know why I’m asking, when I already know the answer.” Erwin chuckled. He gave Levi another deep kiss before he eventually had to let go of him to start preparing the food. He decided to make Levi’s favorite dish to celebrate this evening. He knew how much the wait had burdened Levi the past years. So the least Erwin could do now, was to cook his favorite meal.

Erwin took a glance over to Levi. He was still standing in front of the fridge, eyes pinned on the paper stuck to their fridge, lips curved into the fondest smile.

He turned his head to meet Erwin’s look. Erwin put down the knife. Dinner had to wait. Right now all he wanted to do was to hold his husband in his arms and reread the letter confirming the new chapter in their joint life.

“To Levi and Erwin Ackerman,

Your application for an adoption is being processed.”
